Thinking of getting a pet? Are you tired of being alone and want a companion? Or do you simple crave for a pet and are going to get one? Which animal are you going to pet now? A dog, a cat or a dog? Or are you daring enough to pet a cub? Well, before petting some animal, here are a few unusual pets from around the world. Check them out and then, think again that which pet are you going to chose.
I personally believe that animals must not be kept away from their natural habitat just because someone wants to pet them. Capturing a bird in a cage seems to be the most cruel thing towards animals. Birds are supposed to fly freely in the air. That is their aim. Capturing them in a cage for the purpose of petting is extremely cruel on our part, keeping in mind, the fact that we are the most intelligent and empathetic species on Earth. So I would never recommend anyone to pet a bird of any kind, or any other such animal, petting whom makes us to capture them, depriving them of what they ought to experience.
1. Guinea Pig
Now, owning a guinea pig might seem to be a common option, and there seems to be nothing unusual about it, but according to recent surveys, only 0.6% of household population all around the world owns a guinea pig. Belonging to the family of rodents, they neither are in anyway related to pigs, nor do they belong to Guinea region of Africa. Guinea Pigs have an average life span of 4-5 years. They need not be kept in cages, although they must be kept in small baskets just for their own safety, while domesticating them. They don;t require some expensive food items to be bought for them. They just feed on grass or other green vegetables. These cute little rodents compress them and spread just like an accordion.
2. Stick Insect
Belonging to the family of insects known as “Phasmotodea”, Stick insects have been a source of knowledge in various schools of England or other such countries. is clear from the name, stick insects are thin but long insects having six legs, that are even thinner than their bodies. They usually make a side to side movement and can be kept in a small box having small holes in it for breathing purposes. They feed on plants, and have the tendency to produce a defensive spray in case they are frightened. They also act dead in such situations. Their defensive spray of one of the species is used as a treatment for skin infections.
3. Hedgehog
Ever seen a small ball with needles attached to it, which gradually unrolls and there’s an animal in front of you? Often confused with porcupines, hedgehogs have small spines on their backs, which straighten up when they roll up, which usually happens when they are frightened. These small animals don’t possess any form of venom in their spines, and hence, are kept as pets by some of the people around the globe. Hedgehogs are omnivores and can feed on anything ranging from insects to berries. So, don;t be afraid of these small animals. Go and get one. They are very good listeners, which in fact, any animal is.
4. Monkey
I still remember those good old days when their used to be a guy in the streets playing a loud instrument in order to attract kids out of the houses and would be saying, “Aao dekho bandro ka naach” (Come, see an act by the monkeys). We kids used to run out of our houses, carrying change in our hands. There used to be a couple of monkeys, who were trained in a manner to depict a story, which obviously was dictated by the man himself and after the show, he would collect whatever change we would give them. Reminiscing of those moments, Monkeys are still, one of the most favorite pets in some villages and towns throughout India. Taking care of them is not much difficult as they have a close resemblance to us human beings, both physiologically and socially. So, there’s still time, whether you want to settle for a cat or you may go for a monkey, which is much more entertaining, which is clear from the movie, “Rise of the Planet of the Apes”.
5. Ant Farm
Do you want something inspirational in your pet? I’d like to refer to you, a pet, which can work like for full day. I am talking about ants. They have a tendency to carry loads 100 times their weight. Now getting a single ant won’t be of any good as you won’t be able to observe anything. So buy an ant farm, or even better, build it on your own. All you need is box, glass, sand and a working mind to set out some paths for them.
6. Cubs
Are you a daring person? Are you tired of seeing people own pets like dogs, cats or even ants? Then cubs are the most suitable pet for you. They are beautiful and belong to the most ferocious families of all, also known as the kings of forest. They might sound obnoxious to pet, but there are a few people around the world, that own cubs, train them properly, and when they are grown up, let them live in their natural habitat or wildlife parks. No animal, if treated as a member of family, would forget you. In a similar manner, tigers don;t forget their past owners.
