Dearly Beloved HUMANS,

Do you know who we are? We are the animals you see every day on the streets foraging for food, fighting for territories, fighting for food even sometimes fighting over mating. We are the nameless, homeless animals. Yes, while your pet dogs and cats have a home, have a name, have food to eat and they are not animals, they are your babies, your PETS! We are just animals. We never get the chance to be called pets because we are not. We were never given a chance to be.

No one taught us to save anyone, no one taught us humanity but there we are more human than some of you.

In Pierzwin, Poland, one of us found a little girl who got lost in the nearby forest. That black dog (remember? We are stray dogs, we have no name) not only found her, he stayed with her so that she doesn’t freeze to death. That black dog barked loudly to draw the search party’s attention but never left her side.

In 2009 in Australia a man was beating his wife in front of other family members and was dragging her on the streets, one of us bit that man on his back to stop the violence against the woman. Later the man was imprisoned for 3 months.

In 2005, near Ngong forest, Nairobi, one of us found a kid wrapped in tattered clothing in a plastic bag. She carried that abandoned child through a busy road, barbed wires and finally kept her with her children in her shed. Though further details are unknown but it seems like the man who owned the shed took the baby to the hospital and she was alive and in a good health.

In 1964, one of us saved a farmer’s life from one of his own jersey cows. The farmer slipped in ice and one of his jersey cows (weighed nearly 1000 pounds) attacked him and while the beast was battering him with his brutal strength, the farmer called out for his pet dogs but all of them kept on barking from a distance. That’s when a dog came to his rescue that the farmer was trying to keep off his properties for some days; he cringed to the cow until the cow’s attention shifted away from the farmer. And after some days the dog was killed by a car. Nobody cared.

When one of us received a little care from an army base in Afghanistan, he worked as a sniffer dog and sniffed the danger and that way he saved several soldiers’ lives.

Target and Rufus, this time they were given a name by the homesick soldiers. They used to play with these stray dogs when they missed home but so much for playing with. Target lost his life to save the soldiers’ life from a suicide bomber. Target, Rufus and others jumped the bomber and made him explode before he could reach the soldiers’ tent.

Despite all these we are still neglected.

Shi Bao, she was left by her family in China. After some days a truck took both of her hind legs from her but even in that condition she never gave up. Now she is the mother of four adorable puppies. She didn’t only live her life, she strived. Now even with her two front legs she protects and takes care of her puppies.

That’s what the streets are about, Full of hardships. But some of you took care of us. A nine years old kid fed us, gave us names and opened a shelter for us. Can’t you do that for us? Everyday so much food is wasted. Can’t you feed us with the food you waste? We are hungry and probably looking for food outside your house.

In the killing heat when we seek a shelter, can’t you provide us a shelter, in your garage at least? Are we that bad?

Do you know when you are not even willing to provide us food or shelter or at least water there are some people who are putting their life on danger for us, for the left behinds?

When Tsunami hit Japan on 11^th March, devastated the Fukushima nuclear plants and deadly radiation spilled into atmosphere and some of you left your “families”, left us behind some people came to rescue us in spite of the radiation. Though they could not save all of us because some of us were already dead but they did try.

Can’t you feed us? Can’t you drive a bit carefully so that you don’t hit us and make our lives more miserable? Can’t you adopt us? We may not be cute and cuddly always, we may not be pedigreed but we are not so different from your pets. Can’t you see what we do for you? We hope someday we will be adopted too or at least we won’t be on the streets just to die. We love you.
