Ah! So now you are looking for ape friend that seemed to be a pretty smart buddy in that latest Hollywood flicks you saw recently. You must be wondering if you could own one and keep yourself occupied with your new found friend. Well, take it slow buddy, because it isn’t as easy as it looks like on the screen. No I am not saying it would turn out to be another ‘The-Rise-of-The-Planet-Of-The-Apes’, but you would surely have  a tough time handling your monkey friends. Here is why.

Disciplinary Issues

While you may find baby monkeys and Chimpanzees irresistibly cute but as they grow up, the reality would soon strike upon you in the form of disciplinary issues associated with them. Look! They are not same as a dog or cat, which would wag its tail around you and listen to your orders. They are wild and certainly not the ones who would respond when you throw the stick. As kids, the apes learn all the monkey etiquette via social interactions by observing their elders and imitating them. This way of learning is obstructed when they live in human filled environment and tend to behave differently, which can be abnormal. As babies they can be easy to handle but as they grow up they can prove to be an uncontrollable liability that would chatter and roam around in your house defying your sense of peace and safety. It is difficult to teach an ape human behavior and etiquette and it obviously not preferable and expected.

Wild, Real Wild!

They are not domestic beings. Though they are vegetarians but they have got canines that can prove to be dangerous if not fatal. There have been many cases where a poor owner lost a finger or two as his pet lost his temper. By the time they are adults, that is around five years of age, they become quite stronger than humans. In any case if they become aggressive then even the most experienced care taker cannot help but watch the mess come into existence despite all the efforts. Apes, though can be handled to some extent when they are young but as puberty hits, they long for others of their kind and become ecstatic.

Space and Time

Apes, with chimps specially stay with their moms for more than five years. Even while sleeping, the mamma chimps keep in contact with their infants while sleeping. They are raised with affection and care which a human cannot relate to or imitate. Even devoting all the affection and care, owners often overlook the everyday needs of constant cleaning, developing new tricks to keep them occupied, feeding regularly etc. Petting a chimp is not only concerned with keeping a hold on basic needs, ample space and dedicated time devotion are a part of it. No matter how big your bungalow is, or if you have a huge backyard, for a grown up apes, it would never be enough. Apes like to roam around and explore new spaces, that way your whole house can turn into a mess. It is how you imagine a 3 year old powerful kid roaming across your house, pulling down curtains and moving tables and furniture.

Chimps can become irritated if neglected. You may be off your schedule or come late sometime only to find your pet friend really angry upon you, that may take the shape of a havoc. Oh and if you think you can take your pet on a trip with you then forget that, you won’t even find a proper caretaker when you are away all by yourself.

Communicable diseases

Of course we are not much different from them, they being our ancestors. What could be more dangerous than getting infected by a disease they carry, which can b easily transferable living with your pet. Any disease that harms them can affect us too, since we are so similar genetically. So either way, a disease can be bad for both you and your ape friend equally, no matter who is the transmitter.

Time to say goodbye

Finally after going through all the headache and back breaking struggles , you would realize that these big monkeys only belong to the forest, where they can be happy and stay healthy. It can come to you that no matter how much compassion and care you show towards your pet and all the time you devoted for it, all of it turned out to be a treachery. Well, then let it be clear, like you can’t stay in a jungle with a chimp family, climbing trees and eating fruits, similarly an ape cannot be tamed to be a domestic amuse. Though you might have bonded with the ape but you realize have to let go, well deep down you actually knew this day would come.

The Disturbing Truth

Many owners don’t know this but zoo keepers don’t accept apes that have grown under human influence as they don’t mingle up well with others of their kind. They cannot adopt to the character traits that are though small  but unique and equally important to stay alive among their own species. Thus as a misfit they are targeted by other apes and suppressed. Same is the reason why they can’t be let out in the wild, the conditions being tougher there, decreasing the survival chances.

One dark truth that follows is that, these chimps are sent to various laboratories for innumerable experiments that are conducted ruthlessly upon these creatures. The are subjected to pain and torture and kept in inhuman conditions. Though the owners are told not to visit their chimps and disturb them in their new and happy homes, they don’t come to know that their beloved friends actually become victims to various horrendous conditions they are kept in. Thus following this many countries and places have banned keeping apes as pets.

India raises its chest with pride in being the world’s largest producer of milk. It is probably the only place where milch animals are both worshiped and killed for meat in different cultures. Strange paradox and yet we exist together in a country undisputed most of the times if not all. Many eyebrows were raised when National Diary Development Board came out with figures that showed an increase in the monetary value of milk and meat from 2004-05 to 2011-12 by measures that cannot go overseen. Where at one moment it was a moment of contentment in the domain of production, it gave a shock to the country, when the veil was lifted off. The animals that bore the responsibility of making the country fit and healthy went through a sequence of their tortures and states of turmoils.If vegetarians are happy thinking that by not consuming meat they avoid invoking killings and suffering then this is to better inform them that they do the most.

Let me explain how. Everyone need proteins right? And apart from the flesh, vegetarians make up to their nutrient requirement by consuming more milk.

“So whats wrong in that?”, You might think! , “At least I am not killing anyone.” Well you are doing worse. Milch animals are treated as no more than just machine. The horrible truth goes like that.

Cows and Buffaloes, bred for milking, are inseminated many times over a short period of time. Since the milk production is more at the time the animal gives birth, cattle are impregnated at least once every year for cows and every 15 months for Buffaloes, to get maximum profit out of it. Sooner after birth, within days, the calves are separated from their mothers causing emotional trauma for both the baby and the mother, which leads to 15-30% increase in milk production, again feeding the greed for profit. All of the mothers milk is then sent for human consumption. The females are injected with oxytoxin shots and other hormonal shots so that their body produces much more milk than usual. It is literally forcibly sucking out the life of poor creature.

The repeated milking via machines causes the udders to swell due to unnatural suckling, sometimes even giving electric shocks to the cow and causing infections. The calves that get separated are frightened and bewildered. The female calves are reared for the same torture they would witness on maturing while most of the male calves are sent to slaughter houses or abandoned, probably left to starve. Few, healthy ones are used for breeding. Sometimes they are used for labor and undergo castration without anesthesia. Once they are old, the males are sent to slaughter houses. The number of male cattle account to just 35.57 % against 64.42% females and counts to 85.18 per cent female against 14.8 per cent male in buffalo, which clearly shows the undesirability of the male cattle.

To keep the production going on the animal husbandry manual provided by the government recommends re-impregnation around 60 days after the previous delivery. Any longer interval would cause loss and if it is shorter the milk production would be low.Ever wondered how it would effect health of a human female getting pregnant and giving birth at the same frequent interval?

With the females the same process of insemination, impregnation, separation, continuous milking followed by possibility of mastitis or breast infection. The cattle are stuffed in an unhealthy environment and subjected to tortures throughout their lives. They are treated more like milk producing machines than animals. Milk production reduces after three to four pregnancies, post which the females are sent to slaughter houses as well. Such inhuman practice is done in a country where cows are considered sacred by the most populating sect and carried out by the same people. If this is not ironical then what is. The ill-practices to innocent creatures spits on the pride that Indians show in being foremost in milk production. Diary production involves killing. Production of beef is just a part of this process. The annual report of Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying & Fisheries clearly states an increase of milk production from 102.6 million tonnes in 2006-07 to 127.9 million tonnes in 2011-12 referring to various plans and measures taken up. The truth finally lies in the fact that the poor animals undergo ill fated consequences of these plans and policies.

All in all, a milch animal has to go through more distress than an animal reared solely for meat. But that doesn’t bother us from having our filter coffee or bed tea. We take joy in the fact that we are taking in milk and hence treating our health well. The poor animals on other hand suffer throughout their lives and go unnoticed to their graves, one after the other. This seems worse than being reared for meat where the animals are fed well and finally terminated in one go.

Today we don’t talk here about milch pets. We take up an issue of absolute cruelty that has gone unnoticed for so many years and is projected as an achievement rather than a misdeed. Animals are not being taken care of as they should be. The question just circumferences around economical or uneconomical, overseeing the ill-fated lives of the milch animals.It seems there is no point in feeling good being a vegetarian if you have supplemented milk in your protein build-up diet.now.Taking care of a milch pet is a far cry here. The diary farming today is an issue of survival under struggle for these cattle. In the end it only clears the glass for the fact that the process followed in production of milk is as gruesome as in that of meat if not more. If you really want to extend a helping hand towards those milch animals, reduce that extra cup of tea or filter coffee which you have got addicted to, to begin with.

This piece of writing is not intended to focus upon caring for your milch pets rather it solely focuses on how to provide a better life to our bovine friends. After all they are also living and deserve to be treated far better and not so inhumanly.

Generally, the dogs have unique characteristics and habitats among the other pets. Though it is a second class creator, it has tendency to draw the people towards it. The physical structure of the dog is more appealing than other. They got to have a long lovely nose at the front and an erotic tail at the back. And, they got to have a neither not too long nor too short tubical (tube + cylindrical) body structure with four beam based leg at four corners. And, we could find anal part at the rear end of the body. And, if it is a female dog (bitch), the feeding nipples will be seen over the body under the tubical structure. This is the way the dogs look like.

What do you think when you hear the word ‘the dog’? Cute?? Lovely?? Caring?? Ah… Each people have distinct thought on the dogs. But the similar and the most crucial fact on the dogs are ‘the Faith’. Yes, the faith is the most impact on the dogs. It is more faithful than the other pet, even to the human. The faith of the dogs can’t be compared to any other pets, which is primarily outstanding. It is all, may be, because of its incomparable faith, the dogs have been chosen as the pet (first pet) in the early period. Yes, the dog is the very first animal announced as a domestic pet, which can be treated as a dearie.

The dogs have a lot of and the great magnificence characters, other than the faith, to draw the people towards it. The dogs are quite good in hearing, smelling, hunting, showing care and love, guarding, playing, and searching and so on. Yes, really the dogs got some skills and their own way to tend the people. That’s why, the dogs were considered as ‘the people’s bestie’.

At sometimes and somewhere, the people call the dogs as ‘the people’s slave’ because the dogs are really faithful and do the work suchlike what its master demand. The dogs are well known pet that always go with its master’s word as such. The dogs would have seriously got some strong skills in following its master. The dogs, not only follow its master, it do care about and show its love for its master.

Impute to its magnificence, the dogs were used in various sector such as, in police department, security guard, sports, showcase and so on. The dogs, not only used in various sector, it have being used by individual need too, like, guarding the land, guarding the sheep from wolf (traditional fact), hunting and finding, playing, showcasing, etc. Seriously, the dogs are more useful than the people imagine. In Korea, in China and in Vietnam, the people serving the dogs as a food in the restaurant and street shop. Yes, they even named the dish as ‘Gaegogi’. The way they providing the dogs are as a meat and as a soup to the people. They have thought that, the dog meat and its soup are really good for health and it must be a medicine for some unknown disease. They still have thought that the dogs would have some more specialties like, for beauty case, cosmetics, etc.

Though the dogs were made as a dish, still the dogs have some favorite dish to be eaten. The most likely food for the dogs was meat. But, the dogs come under Omnivores; it could be able to eat vegetables and grains along. The dogs commute between Omnivore and Carnivores, according to its master. If the dogs were fed only by meat, then it grownup as Carnivores, else it fed by meat along with vegetables and grain, then it grownup as Omnivores. The dogs classifications are purely depend on its master.

As a pet, the dogs should have something like to do and something liked to be done. In such case, the dogs were loved to play with the ball. Yes, they like to catch or find the thrown ball or dish (a flat circular plate shaped) by its master. This is the most favorite game to the dogs. And seriously, the dogs are loved to be cuddled by its master. Though its grownup, the dogs were loved to be pampered. The cuddling points for the dogs are below neck and rear end of the ear. These are sensitive and secretive point for the dogs to flatter.

Ah… May be, that’s why, it always is ‘the dog’? Yes, of course, it always is, because of this. Though the dogs can be any variety or any breed but the fact and magnificence are similar in the almost cases. That’s why; I love dog and possess a dog, named Viki.

The dogs have been classified to small dogs and big (huge) dogs. The huge / big dogs has sturdily body structure which includes, like, German Shepherd, Doberman, Golden Retriever, Bull Dog, and so on… It must have muscular body with some special characteristic which can be used for both domestic and professional career. When it comes to small dog, it is very soft and small in nature. It doesn’t hold any special characteristic, like, hunting, searching, rescuing and etc…, but still has some good attitude and tendency to draw the people toward it. 1. Border Terrier

As its name, Border Terrier has short and strong body structure. It is originated from England. It got to have a hairy and puffy body structure. It tends to shed but not like other mammies. It is originated from Japan, but available all over the world. Though it seems puffy and large body, it weighs medium between 4 to 6 kgs. 5. Bull Dog

According to its name, this dog got to have a sturdily body structure. Though it is not very tall, it weighs high, around 20 to 22 kgs. Lately, it is a street dog in English country, named, English Bull Dog. Even, it is an imported and costlier dog in India, the people prefer to buy.

4. Labrador Retriever

Labrador Retriever is a muscular dog. It got to have an erect body structure. It has long and blunt pointed nose with black or brown colored at tip. It is famous in English speaking country, like, Australia, USA, Canada, and UK. It generally abbreviated as Lab or Labrador.

But, it doesn’t have capacity to learn kiddo tricks but it tries harder to entertain its master. Even though, it is bad in learning tricks, it is good in playful and kind. 3. German Shepherd

German Shepherd is a friendly and manly dog. It has tendency to attract the people who are like-home and professional. It got to have long and black nose at front end and cool and erotic tail at rear end. It weighs as good as its height, around 30 to 40 kgs. It has good body structure and combo color on its body. It usually has tan with black saddle over. This dog got some reason to be named as German Shepherd. ‘German’ mentioning its origin, and ‘Shepherd’ means to ‘protect the sheep at yard’. Generally, it has been used to protect the sheep at yard. It is highly domestic and protective for its master.

2. Beagles

As per its name, it is used for hunting purpose. Beagles chosen by the Air cops, i.e., Airport force department, to find the illegal things to be detected during departure or land of the flight. A dog’s paws are one of its most important assets. It uses them for walking, running, digging, playing and other activities. Because, they are constantly in contact with the ground, they tend to accumulate higher amounts of impurities, than the rest of the body. In a large number of cases, the owner tends to ignore the importance of cleaning the dog’s eyes and ears regularly. The ignorance is not voluntary, but due to lack of knowledge and awareness. It is of significant hygienic importance. It also ensures the dog’s vision and hearing ability are not compromised. Also, it is an important criterion when a dog is being judged on dog shows.
Similarly, dental hygiene is of equal importance. Ideally a dog’s teeth should be manually brushed twice a day, just as in the case of humans. Regular brushing and cleaning of the mouth, means minimum odor and possibility of plaque and cavities is significantly reduced.

The most important task for a dog owner is walking the dog. It ensures regular physical exercise, a change of environment, a chance at fresh breath, interaction with peers and most importantly a cleaner home as the dog is then free to have regular bowel movements. It would be incorrect to call it a task, as this activity is just as fun for the owner as for the dog itself. The owner gets his daily dose of physical exercise and fresh breath and a break from the daily grind. But beyond that, the time you get to spend with your furry friend can absolutely relieve you of all your day’s stress. Also, one’s social life also expands; you meet new people, as your dog will attract many more passerbys than otherwise. But as a responsible dog owner there are certain things that one must follow while doing this activity.

First and foremost, make sure the dog is walked everyday without fail, preferably twice a day. This prevents the dog from suffering from lethargy. Consistent physical activity also keeps it active and healthy. One must also try to keep the time slots consistent every day. This is not only convenient for the owner, but the dog also gets used to the schedule and subsequently can accordingly control his bowel movements. As a result there is no need of taking any extra efforts for cleaning up, nor would you have to keep letting it out from time to time within the day.

One must always try to walk the dog themselves, instead of transferring this responsibility over to someone else, such as the family help or trainer. This is important to reinforce the sense of security in the dog with respect to the owner, and make him feel wanted. At the same time it helps in maintaining a connection between the dog and its owner. It is also critical, as the owner can then make out if the dog is experiencing any heath issues which may not be apparent otherwise.

One must take special care in the summer months. The walk times could be altered so that the temperature outdoors is at its minimum. This is comfortable for the owner and the dog. It is a naturally available cool and safe material, and typically is favored by dogs. One can’t expect the dog to walk over hot surface with ease just a person would find it difficult to walk over such surfaces barefoot.
Once the dog starts to get comfortable with the walking routine, one can try to accommodate frequent small bouts of running. This is a much effective method of exercise, beneficial to both the dog and its owner. The increased blood flow and heart rate is good for the overall health and helps in losing the monotony of a walk. But at the same time one must make sure that you are not overdoing it. The dog should not get exhausted after runs, so one must keep a constant check on the dog’s behavior and temperament.
One must also take breaks after regular intervals if the duration of the walk is too long. This ensures the dog doesn’t get too tired and lethargic. Especially when there is running, it acts as a buffer time zone for the dog and the dog to catch their breaths. One needs to rest, preferably on a cool grassy surface for some time especially after the walk, to help the dog to cool down and relax.
Ideally a dog should be trained such that it doesn’t need a leash to be kept in control. If not, then the dog on the leash should walk right beside you, neither leading ahead of you, nor lagging behind you. One must not need to be constantly tugging or pulling at the leash to make the dog go where you want to take it. The comfort level should be established such that the dog doesn’t feel like it is being forced.
Ensuring the dog’s comfort is of utmost importance. This strengthens the bond between the dog and the owner. The more it is comfortable; lesser it will bark or growl at the owner or passerbys. One must also ensure the dog doesn’t take sudden sprints towards other people or animals-pet or otherwise. One must consider that not everyone is fond of dogs and might take offense at being attacked, even though the intention was absolutely harmless.
Any kind of training should only involve love and affection. Certain owners tend to carry sticks when taking their dogs for walks, which they use to hit it with when the dog disobeys. Violence only makes the dog fearful not disciplined. Fear often leads to disrespect and aggression which might cause problems for the owner. Love shown by means of gentle words, petting and patting is the most effective way to train dogs for everything. The love is returned manifold, and dogs have their own special way of showing gratitude and respect towards the owner when treated in a similar fashion.

The million dollar question that often arises in our mind is “Why do humans keep pets”. Some people say that pets are animals which can scarcely survive alone in the wild. So human beings provide them with all kinds of nourishment and protect them from the dangers they could otherwise face. Some say that pets are different from other animals in that we see them as ‘friends’ rather than ‘food to eat’. Some even say that pets are humans with ‘fur’ which I believe is true. Dogs are the prodigious version of the people. Pets are the best kinds you can have at home because not only is it aesthetically pleasing, but they give us a warm feeling with company. And when it comes to the word ‘company’, Dogs are the masters in this field.

Yes, a dog can always be a man’s best friend. They are probably the best ever creation on Earth. To have a dog as a pet is the most beautiful gift an individual can ever get. A quote by Josh Billings says it all. “A Dog is the only thing on Earth that loves you more than he loves Himself”. After years of growing and maturing, we establish that the most important thing we demand from a relationship in any instance is not only full acceptance and trust but a compatible energy, a strong feeling of love moving through the entire body. Our dogs can give us that. Dogs have their unique way of expressing compassion. They will move around the house aimlessly, trying to grab your attention showing that they are never better off without it, licks and hugs will come as compliments. A dog will always be our faithful partner no matter what the situation is. It would always like to be fed, pampered and taken care of. Just a little consideration from your side is all that they need. Dogs usually bestow a lot of favor upon us in return for a really minimum amount of the same. They can readily be given the status of a best friend.
Certain breeds of dogs show different behavioural traits. Behaviours of Domestic dogs or CANIS LUPIS FAMILIARIS are influenced by social, genetic and environmental causes. Nowadays dogs have the ability of remembering a stock of about 340 words. Their level of intelligence is rapidly grabbing the spotlights. It is also said that dogs were able to be domesticated by and succeeded in coming with human contact because of their social nature. Dogs generalize their instincts to include humans in their pack. They show behaviours and mannerisms similar to the humans and considering them a part of our species is worth it. Dogs titillate our inner selves. They are capable of exercising a variety of roles like taking care of the children, guarding the house etc. They are our beloved companions. It is hard to be precise about when this friendship actually began but sources reveal that in the Chauvet caves in the Ardeche region of France, a 50 metre trial of footprint made by a boy of about ten alongside those of a large ‘Canid’ that appears to be part wolf, part dog was discovered. The story ascertains us that dogs have the potential to merge with the humans and build up their own space in our hearts. It is even said that humans don’t domesticate dogs but rather the dogs have domesticated the humans. Wouldn’t anyone want a partner who worshipped them, loved them, always welcomed them home enthusiastically, was content with lifelong loyalty and protection? Observe your dog closely. It will give you that same sensation. Your pet dog will never run away if it gets a chance, rather it would stay glued to your side, lick you, startle you with occasional jumps and fidget restlessly maybe by plucking at your clothes or spinning around only to compel you to coodle it like your baby. Dogs are a strange, volatile, contradictory yet sticky phenomenon. They are crafted, shaped, moulded with focused effort. And yet, true friendship between the both of you, once recognized, in its essence will seem effortless. Dogs value companionship and if isolated are often distressed. Experts call it the ‘Seperation Anxiety’. Dogs portray emotions typical of the humans. They share the complex way we think. The media has repeatedly illustrated several instances of dogs behaving empathetically towards their owners. A puppy named Cobler saved her owner by alerting her to a gas leak. Another dog pulled his paraplegic owner from the truck which unexpectedly filled with noxious gas, exploded later. With the passing days, humans are largely interested in owning dogs because of their charming personality. They respond to their cues, both visual and auditory. They delve into our lifestyles, become our closest pal, indeed a “friend in need”. Many prefer canines that can be easily trained like LABRADORS, GERMAN SHEPHARD, BORDER COLLIES AND STANDARD COLLIES. Dogs are an epitome of honesty, generosity, faithfulness and sensitivity. All these qualities add up to an amazing friendship.

Loving dogs for my entire life, I have become an individual who would rather roll in a pile of puppies than spend time on the Internet which is a huge deal. Dogs have their way of dragging us out of our human forms and convincing us to be free. Not the India democracy kind of freedom, but that genuine freedom which would transform us into individuals unafraid to cherish every last bit of happiness. Throughout the period of being a dog lover, dog owner and dog nurturer, I began to understand all about the inner workings of the world and the nature of being happy. My dogs are never so inhuman or selfish, they are capable of feeling sadness. They are so humble that they will overfill you with all kinds of positivity that you will be bound to jump back to your simplistic form. They are walking billboards for trust and never suspect antagonism from anyone. Even in pain, they would rather stick out their tongue and hold your heaviness on the tip of their tails than watch you suffer. We search for opportunities to interact with our dogs. They enlighten the surrounding with their intellectual brightness and cast a spell of security and passion onto the dull, dampened walls of our human uncertainity.
That phase of your life when your sunlit room seems overshadowed with grey clouds, you can sit with your dog and read out your mind to him for endless hours. He will sit quietly beside you and stare at you with his sparkling eyes. He will never walk away. Dogs can juggle with your manifold emotions. They know when to play your favourite Coldplay song on repeat, they know the echoes of the famous words “I love you” at any wavelength. They are our real time saviours. They understand our shifting balance on a bad day but still continue to bubble with so much energy, it overlooks every inch of your sadness. Dogs are discounts that will fit into your shoes just right. Dogs are chocolate chips on your icecream. Dogs are your best friends who will spill everyone’s secrets in their own language that others watch eagerly but no one understands. Dogs beg us to be curious. They beg us to play with them, want something more from life, look at the cusp of the universe and plead for it to throw a ball at you. They are excellent mind reader’s that will show what kind of a person you really are.

I always have this natural obligation to start up a conversation with someone who will listen with no choice and understand your ‘inner you’. They give us an invitation to love. They sometimes destroy the beauty of your house in one fleeting moment of uncontrollability, but they are the perfect ornaments of your household. They are unpredictable. They are a link to paradise. They do not know evil or jealousy or discontent. To sit with your dog on a hillside on a glorious afternoon is to be back in the garden of Eden where doing nothing is not boring- it is peace. They are so your best friends, your 3 am friend or can even be your talented marriage partner, if you decide on doing so.

As the so called proud owners, we owe so much of recovery and discovery to our dogs in this lifetime that we always want to multiply our love for them ten times more. Vivacity and vehemence are virtues for which every dog is adored. They can kill our lethargy in a millisecond and stuff us with ample stamina for ages. Dogs hear the voices of humans.

I humbly disagree. They themselves are a voice to humans. Their devotion mesmerizes us and cultivates us into disciplined, wild creatures, with fully inculcated manners and skills; we would want to wag our tails to their honour.
As Jhonny Depp puts it- “The only creatures that are evolved enough to convey pure love are Dogs”. They are a metaphor for life and love. And surely have every quality of being our best friends. We can never get enough from our dogs.
