We all have seen movies with animals in them. Sometimes they are the protagonists and other times they help the protagonist in achieving his/her goal. But in all cases they are an important part of the movie and without them the movie would not have had a happy ending. They entertain us and make us laugh and cry at the same time. As most of you have probably already realized that the death of an animal in a movie makes us weep and cry more than the death of human does. Most people watch these movies and get inspired to keep pets at home but before you run to the pet store and adopt a pet after seeing it in a cute Disney movie make sure you can take care of it properly. They are for life and must be treated with utmost love.

Here are some movies which melted your heart and made you run to the pet store at the earliest.

PASCAL (TANGLED)

He is one of the leading characters in tangled and acts as a friend and well wisher to Rapunzel. He is the one who forces Rapunzel to see that she should leave the tower soon and experience the world for herself. He can’t speak but communicates through his actions. He doesn’t like people who seem to want to hurt Rapunzel and initially he is also apprehensive of Flynn Rider. Later he realizes that Flynn is pure at heart and gives his blessing to the happy couple. Keeping chameleons as pets is a non conventional choice and those who want to keep one must bear in mind that though they make great pets they won’t be like Pascal at all.

NEMO (FINDING NEMO)

This movie was a big hit and it was probably the reason why clown fishes became hugely popular as pets. This story is about a father clownfish and his friend Dory (regal blue tang) who search the seas for Nemo who was caught by a group of fishermen. Clownfish are beautiful sea fishes that are found in a variety of colours. They are yellow, reddish, orange and blackish and many of them have white patches. They have a symbiotic relationship with sea anemones. Another type of fish which gained popularity was the regal blue tang. As the name suggest they have a shocking blue body with a yellow tail. They are highly popular in the marine aquariums.

BOLT

Bolt and his owner a girl named Penny star in a hit television drama and to get real effects in the drama Bolt has been deceived all his life.  His job in the drama is to foil the nefarious plans of an evil doctor. Bolt believes that he has super powers and when he thinks that Penny has  been kidnapped he runs to save her but soon realizes that he is no super dog but  only an ordinary dog. Throughout his journey he is helped by Mittens, an alley cat and Rhino who is a fearless and television obsessed hamster.

BABE

The protagonist of this movie is a pig who harbors a secret desire to be a sheepdog. Farmer Hoggett wins a small runt piglet at a local fair and decides to call him Babe. Babe befriends all the other animals on the farm and becomes specially close to a sheepdog called Fly. Since he desired to be a sheepdog, fly helps him and soon enough he produces spectacular results. The other important character in the movie is an animal called Ferdinand who is actually a duck but thinks that he is a rooster.

G-FORCE

Another one of our favourite pets, guinea pigs have been made superheroes in this movie. Anyone who thinks that guinea pigs are small docile creatures will not think so after they have seen this movie. They are depicted as James Bond in G- force and their goal is to save the world from destruction. The movie traces the life of 4 guinea pigs that have been given the task of saving the world. This task is given to them by the US government and their job is to stop a diabolical billionaire who plans on taking over the world. They realize that the fate of the entire world is in their paws and they run into the battle field without worrying about their own lives.

Getting inspired from movies and buying a pet is not a crime but getting a pet without proper research is. Once you get a pet it is like bringing a baby home. You can’t just discard it when you are bored. It is your responsibility to take care of your pet till the day it dies. Most people watch these movies and get caught up in the action. They start imagining their pets to be some sort of superhero and after realizing that their pet isn’t like the one in the movie they get disappointed and stop loving and caring for their pet. Animals need our love and attention and you must realize that no matter how much money you spend you will never get an animal that behaves like the animals in movies.  Animated movies depict animals in the way they do to entertain children and they should not be considered a documentary on animal behaviour. We must realize the fact that dogs don’t have super powers, guinea pigs don’t fight crime and chameleons won’t ever be as affectionate as dogs.

At the end of a busy year all of us love to enjoy our summer holidays. It is the much awaited break from a hectic schedule. But sooner or later we do get bored of the holidays. We don’t know what to do then. Do you find yourself in such a position too? Well then I have a solution for you to get rid of your boredom and if you are an animal lover then you will love this. I have put together a list of ten very entertaining pet-related movies. These are a must-watch for any ‘pet-o-holic’ and they surely won’t let you down.

1. 101 Dalmatians:

Cruella de Vil, the villain in this movie, wants to make garments out of Dalmatians and so she tries to steal the puppies of a Dalmatian couple, Perdy and Pongo. So she chases them along with her henchmen. But they, with the help of many other animals manage to outsmart her and escape from her each time.

2. Scooby-Doo:
An all time favorite, the Scooby-Doo movies revolve around a gang of teen detectives, also consisting of a dog named Scooby-Doo. They investigate crimes which seem to be the work of ghosts but find out each time that the culprits are actual people and not supernatural beings.

3. Tom and Jerry:
Tom and Jerry try to help Robyn who is the only heir to her family fortune after her only parent, her father, is presumed to be dead. Her evil aunt wants to use Robyn to get to the family fortune. So Tom and Jerry protect Robyn and help her to escape. But her father is still alive and turns up to reunite with his daughter.

4. Stuart Little:

The Little family wants to adopt a child and so they end up adopting a humanoid mouse called Stuart. Although the parents love Stuart, it takes a while for George to accept him as his brother. Meanwhile the family cat, Snowbell, keeps trying to eliminate Stuart from the household as he is jealous of him.

5. Bolt:
Bolt is a celebrity dog who is an actor with a little girl called Penny, for the hit television series called ‘Bolt’. He is used to acting like the hero and the savior of the day. But when he mistakenly lands up somewhere where nobody knows him, he realizes that he has special powers only on television and he is heartbroken. But then goes back to Penny and ends up saving her from a disaster.

6. Cats and dogs:

Cats and dogs is a movie that tells the story of extremely intelligent cats and dogs who are even tech- friendly spies for their kind respectively. It is a war between cats and dogs, with the cats on the wicked side. They are trying to make the humans allergic to all canines. So all the dogs of the world have to stop them in their evil plans and also protect the humans during all of this.

7. Marley and me:
This movie traces the journey of Marley, a Labrador retriever from his birth to death, with the Grogans. They bring him home to learn how it might be to have children. But Marley proves to be the most unmanageable dog they can have. Nevertheless they love him through thick and thin despite sometimes having thoughts of giving him away.

8. Air bud:
This franchise consists of a total of 14 movies. The movies which are titled ‘Air Bud’ are based on Buddy, a golden retriever who can play sports. This is discovered by Josh and Emma who bring it to the notice of the others and Buddy goes on to become a star player of many kinds of ball games. However, the ‘Air Buddies’ movies are based on the different adventures of the talking puppies of Buddy and Molly and are not as related to sports.

9. Beethoven:
A series of seven movies, Beethoven is based on a St. Bernard by the name ‘Beethoven’ and his antics. The first five movies are about the pet dog of the Newton family. They follow him on his journey from his childhood through his adventures. But the last two movies tell the story of Beethoven, a stray dog, who goes on to becoming a movie star. They bear no resemblance to the previous movies.

10.Marmaduke   

Marmaduke is a great dane who belongs to Phil and his family. While Marmaduke thinks that Phil is too strict and doesn’t care about him too much, Phil is just caught up in his work. Marmaduke is also engaged in small battles against the pedigree dogs of that area. He has friends who are not pedigree dogs. His love interest is Jezebel and we see the things he does to win her heart. The movie then ends with Marmaduke realizing that Phil truly loves him.

Many of the movies mentioned above also have television series or cartoons based on them. So if you do have extra time after watching the movies, you can go ahead and check out the series. I’m sure you will love them equally if not more. Better yet, you can get your pets together to watch them too.
