Are dog owners aware of their dental problems? Well, some people might be familiar to their dental problems and some not. Dental hygeine for dogs are as important as their overall health i.e good nutrition, grooming and proper exercise. Cleaning teeth can increase the energy, health and life of your dogs. Your dog might not let you to clean his teeth first, but you can make a habit of this, hopefully. According to experts, brushing his teeth daily is perfect but of you often busy in your work then you have to take out time from your busy schedule atleast once or twice a week for your dearest friend. This will keep the hazardous diseases away from your dogs such as periodontal disease which can not only harm their teeth, but also other parts of the body. Try to buy the brush which are specifically designed for canines and if your dog is a bigger-sized then look out for a bigger brush and if he is smaller then smaller-sized brushes would be better. The most important thing is don’t use human tooth paste, they can be harmful for your dogs as it includes flouride which is awfully poisonous for dogs, you can buy toothpastes from the pet store. If you want to brush their teeth peacefully then its better if you brush their teeth after his exercise as he’ll be too tired. Start brushing teeth of your dog very slowly, rub his gums on front and then both sides. but if he feels agitated or disturbed, you can quit. The more you brushes his teeth, the more he’ll get used to it. During cleaning his teeth, try to brush his teeth gently so that he can enjoy the flavour of toothpaste. After cleaning his teeth, you can give him treats as reward.

The dental diseases are the most common problem in dogs which can affect not only teeth, but his overall health will also be affected. Some of the mouth disorders that are seen in dogs are given below :-

1. PERIODONTAL DISEASES :- It is the infection between the tooth and gum, it can be very painful that can result in tooth decay. First, it will begin with a plague on the teeth and the it begins to develop more if plague gets hardened. This is one of the hazardous disease seen in the dogs which can shorten a dog’s life and can lead to various diseases like heart diseases and liver problems.

2. GINGIVITIS - It is generally an imflammation of the gums caused by the growth of plague,bacteria and tartar above and below the gum line. This is very distressing disease in which dogs can loose their apetite and can lead to weight loss.

3. ORAL TUMOR – It is usually found in the upper side of the mouth. These tumors are usually found in the large breeds of dogs between the age of 6 months and 20 months. It must be removed surgically as soon as possible. The symptoms of this disease includes bad breathing, difficult in chewing, swollen face, loose teeth and the blood coming from mouth.

4. SWOLLEN GUMS - It develops when tartar grows over the gums and food stucks between the teeth. Don’t feed him dry food if you want to avoid this disease and also you can prevent this by cleaning teeth regularly.

SYMPTOMS OF DENTAL PROBLEMS : 1. Bad breath 2. Weight loss 3. Apetite loss 4. yellow teeth 5. Plaque that develops on the upper side of teeth 6. Bleeding and swollen gums 7. Loose teeth 8. swollen areas around the eyes 9. Difficult in chewing 10. Irritation around the face PREVENTIONS FROM DENTAL PROBLEMS :- 1. BRUSHING TEETH REGULARLY – The best way to prevent from oral problems in dogs. As I already told you about the cleaning teeth of dogs, you have to take out time from your busy schedule so that your canine friend live longer, healthier and happier. 2. STAY AWAY FROM SWEETS AND DRY FOOD – No matter how much your dog likes food that contains sweets or dry food, do not feed him if you want him to stay away from any dental problems as sweets can cause problems in teeth wheras dry food may stuck between teeth which can cause swollen gums. 3. CHEW TOYS :- If you don’t find enough time for cleanung his teeth then you can buy him dental toys which are specially designed for your dog’s teeth. The more he chew the dental toys, the more healthier will be his teeth. 4. REGULARLY VISIT TO VENT – Just like you go for a regular dental checkup, your dog also need it. So you can take him to vent once in a month so that you can be aware of his teeth and their problems. Even if veterinarian finds any problem, they’ll find solution soon.
