A bird is a creature to fly above in the blue sky. They are beautiful to watch but not so good when put in the cage. When you put a bird in the cage you take the most important thing from her, her independence. Imagine your life in a locked house, you can see the outside world, you can get all the entertainments, you can get food and everything that is necessary for your life but that one thing, your independence. You can never step out of the cage. Have you seen that the prisoners accept their fates and obey the rules of the prison? Same with the birds, they just accept their imprisonments. They entertain themselves by entertaining you. This article of mine is strongly against imprisoning birds. This article is to educate you about what kind of birds people keep as their company (prisoners) and why.

Parakeets or Budgies:

Parakeet-Cage

Parakeets

These little birds are very colourful and good to decorate your home with beautiful colours and chirping sounds. Good decoration, eh? There are few people who actually wants them as company so they hand-train them from a baby. But still they want so much from these little guys. Some of the males of these species can talk and sing. Their vocabulary can be 100+ words. So people tame them. And rarely do they let them stay out of their cages.

Parrots:

Parrot

These green coloured birds are known for interacting. They talk to the people and some of them are so good at talking that it sounds like human. Enough reason to put it in a cage, right? Parrots are intelligent birds and easy to maintain though they make too much noise when they don’t get enough attention. If hand-raised from infancy parrots lose their ability to fly that’s when people keep them as dogs. Funny, right? Most of them end up in animal shelters because people don’t understand them as parrots have complicated brains.

Toucans:

Toucan

They are wild birds but silly humans do everything to tame them. They are known for large colourful beaks. Most of the toucans have beautiful beaks, they are messy and hard to train. Toucans can eat everything including pins, clothes. They are curious creatures. I don’t know if people pet a Toucan for these reasons. But I think they look beautiful when they are free and they are getting to stay in their habitat, the woods.

Peacocks:

Peacocks are beautiful! Without a doubt everybody can say that but not so much to be tamed. Their vibrant iridescent colours make everyone amazed. and again, people run for their beauty. Peacocks can’t fly do high. She probably feels good in a house with lots of space to roam about and a big backyard.

Birds of prey:

They are also known as raptors as they hunt and feed other animals. People keep them as pets. But I think, if they can keep them free only then they should get a wild bird like bird of prey. So many birds can be included in birds of prey section, raptors, accipiter, buteos, eagles, falcons, harriers, hawks, kites, ospreys and owls. There is no point in keeping these birds in a cage. They are wild birds and were made to soar high up in the sky. Putting them in a cage means killing them.

Crows and Ravens:

Crows are omnivorous. They may live with humans in the same locality but they are not those birds who get tamed. The crows are believed to be one of the most intelligent animals on the earth and some recent tests have proved it right. They are so intelligent that they crush and rub an ant all over their body to keep the parasites away, pet crows give their owners names, they can count to six, they sunbathe for Vitamin D (amazing that these little creatures have discovered there is something good about sunbathing!) and healthy crows help injured crows but they have dark side, they murder each other. The reason why they kill is still unknown. Holy homicidal crows!

My grandma has a pet crow. She feeds that crow. Sometimes when her crow brings its friends, she feeds them all happily. You can find that crow outside my grandma’s window almost at all the mealtimes except for the dinner. If sometime my grandma is late in feeding it, it waits patiently outside the window and builds up a mess with its kow-kows. If someday the crow does not show up my grandma worries about it. She keeps checking the window but she never tries and captures the crow. The crow comes and has food from grandma’s hand on its will. It’s a beautiful human-bird bond. I believe if people really want to tame wild animals and birds, it should be like that. Humans should go to wild. The animals should not leave its habitat.
