Remember the time, as a kid, you used to go for horse riding in fairs, wishing that you had one at home too! Well if you still are into thinking of buying a horse to pet around and enjoy a ride everyday then better be it, but before you get your horsey home, make sure you have ample space time and resources to take care of your friend. Horses need a lot of attention and maintenance on regular basis, else they might easily fall ill. PetAttack brings to you points to keep in mind and ways to take proper care of you equine friend.

8. Cost

10

Horses  or ponies, you better buy them only if you can, because here my friends the cost of maintenance will be more than the cost of buying. Yes, the food, space, shelter and medical care are going to cost you a lot more than you think you can think. Never mind if you are cousin of Richie-rich. In the end its all about loving and caring for your friend which can give you as along as 35 years of companionship.

7. Space

space

You wouldn’t just want to buy that four legged mammal just because you like riding it. It is not a dog or cat or a parrot that you can keep in your home or lap and pet around. A horse needs ample space and when I say ample it literally means a lot. It needs to roam, stride, run and most of all graze whole throughout the day. So unless you are rich enough to have a huge grassland in your backyard or you are one among the bunch of hippies, that move across lands, your friend won’t stay happy in your home.

6. Food

2

Horses eat a lot. They have got weak digestion so they cant take in and digest two meals a day like we humans do. They simply graze throughout the day. They mostly feed on hay and forage. Grains can be included in their food twice a day along with veggies like carrots and apples.

5. Grooming and Cleaning

HorseGrooming

Get your brushes out folks, its time you give a little grooming to your friend. If the horse is outside most of the time, don’t groom it too much, that removes the good  natural oils that keep it protected from weather. Grooming is a vital part of keeping a horse. You got to buy curry comb, stiff brush and not-stiff brush. If the horsey fur has got too dirty start with curry comb to brush of the dirt. Use a wet sponge, make your horse shine like a brilliant stallion. Brush the mane and tail with a comb. Try avoid getting kicked and for that don’t stay directly behind the horse. Believe me,you will not regret anything more than standing behind that tall legged creature.

Your horse might keep moving away from time to time while you brush and groom it. Try making them stand still by tying a quick release knot in the lead rope.

4. Hoof Picking

hoofpicking1

Here comes the most critical part of cleaning, the hoof picking. Probably you might not be knowing it, so please don’t try to do it yourself and hurt the horse or get kicked. It may be possible that your pet can get injured and never be able to run properly, so better contact a professional. A hoof pick is used for picking. Run your hand down his legs, press the fetlock and lift its foot. Be careful with the sensitive area that is the soft part called frog. Remove the dirt and small pebbles from the groove around the frog area.

3. Exercise

3

Your horse needs regular exercise. Take it out everyday for a ride or run into an open field or paddock. Make sure the fencing of the area where your horse moves around isn’t made of barbed wire else it may be a cause for injuries. After the exercise if it sweats too much don’t let it drink too much water, just few sips would do. Walk it around so that it cools off slowly. Go for the sweaty summer way, ride your horse and make him exercise while during winters keep it warm and don’t go hard on it. Sweat can be removed by wet sponge and again the grooming and cleaning with different brushes. There is no fixed time to groom your horse, do it when you feel like and do it properly and gently all over the body using different combs and curries. There are separate face brushes which can are made for the face, use sponge or cloth to clean the ears, eyes and nose. If you have multiple horses avoid using same wipes to prevent spreading of any infections.

2. Shelter

stable

So you have a got a huge house, a wide backyard, nearby some stretch of fields and a separate paddock for your horsey, but it needs its own house too. A stable, a barn or a shed would do. Covered from three sides, this would be where your horse would take refuge in summers, during cold and in rains. Make sure the place around is clean, stuffed with hay. Make sure the droppings are cleaned regularly and your horse has a clean and dry bedding of its own where it can rest away, even the smell can irritate your pet. Even when the horse is outside the muck should be regularly cleaned.

1. Care

horse smiling

Horses are gentle creatures. They just need your care and patience and they can be your best friends. Buy when only when you think you can fully take care of it. Regular medical checkup is necessary. Horses need to get Tetanus and other vaccinations once in a while and regular veterinary care. On any medical eventuality, the  costs are going to blow you away, so think before you wish to own your equine. Since they graze upon grass regularly, horses are prone to get intestinal worms, hence the deworming is required every six to eight weeks.

Remember a healthy horse is a happy horse.

The little puppy has now come home. The little life will be your companion and responsibility. The puppy is like a small infant who has to be molded and brought up in the right way. The only difference here is that the puppy doesn’t understand the human language and thus with a lot of patience and care needs to be taught the right from wrong.

puppy school

The puppy needs to be firstly given a couple of puppy shots by a vet. The vet will also provide syrups to add to calcium to its food intake. This needs to be given at least till the puppy is a year old. In case of big canines, strong bones are a must to balance out its body weight. So these medicines in the form of syrup need to be either mixed with milk or the puppy food. Also it is extremely important for the puppy to get its timely nutrition adequately. This will help the puppy to develop into a strong and healthy dog in the future.

The first few weeks just let the puppy ease up and get accustomed to the house and the family members. This is a subtle way of saying that the puppy will pee and poop in places it wishes to do so. This can be a little tiring and makes you even want to second guess as to why you had to take up an additional role when you’re already finding it difficult to deal with your life crisis. But trust me, it’s worth it!

Hand shake

It’s a gradual procedure to potty train your puppy. Use the cloth that you wipe the pee with and keep it in the toilet or terrace where the puppy could pee in the house. Once it gets the smell from the cloth the dog will make sure that it has its pee spot intact. Similarly with the pooping part but however it takes longer for them to get accustomed to pooping in one place. Every time you see them going round and round in a particular stop it is a sign they are about to poop. Instead of scrubbing the floor and picking up the poop, you can put a newspaper when it crouches to poop. It’s not advisable to take puppies to gardens at least till they are six months old as they may contract diseases quickly due to their low immunity system. Try taking them for walks below your building at times that suit your schedule. And make sure you put a mouth guard for your puppy. The puppies are usually tempted to eat rubbish and you don’t want them falling ill. Make sure you stick to the similar time everyday and eventually it becomes a habit.

PottyTrain

The feeding habits also may vary in the initial few weeks. The puppy may feel lonely a couple of days and may just stick to drinking water. But don’t fret or eat your heart out in the bargain at such incidences. Its quiet normal to do so! Eventually the food intake begins. The vet usually suggests the food to be given to the puppy. The puppy foods are suggested because they are wholesome and give the puppy an all round development. Also foods like boiled eggs, curd rice and milk can also be a part of the routine diet

Training them is another work you have to do in the first few months. Especially because they are teething and have a tendency to rip apart your beautiful furniture and expensive stilettos. The trick of training them is by using firm but affirmative orders and also a little treat never hurts anybody! They usually understand signs better than words, so make sure you use the same word for the action you expect your puppy to do. Its not difficult but you do need to invest some great amount of time and make sure you repeat the drill of using words every day.

When your puppy is chewing on something, use your words and be firm. Say a ‘No’ firm so that the puppy understands from your tone that whatever they are doing isn’t acceptable. If they don’t understand initially stop them from doing it by saying a firm ‘No’. Making them learn tricks like sit, stand, shake hands or paw needs a little bit of treat. Although bribing is a bad thing but it works like a charm and puppies do get motivated. It is important that you acknowledge every little accomplishment and effort put in by the puppy by rubbing his neck or forehead and calling them a good puppy!

puppy food

The puppies have a lot of irritation when they undergo teething so make sure you have adequate chewable toys for it to nibble upon. Chew sticks are also pretty good although they may take a whole week to chew on it. A more natural substitute would be the tender coconut shell. They enjoy chewing on something so huge and juicy. It also keeps them active and keeps their focus off the home appliances and furniture.

The puppy takes a few weeks to get accustomed to their new surroundings. However, they are fast learners and the willingness to train them would help them learn ever faster. Everybody has a different home environment with a puppy with a different nature. At the end its all a matter of learning through trial and error. I don’t believe in professional trainers because they use some pretty strenuous methods to teach the puppies. Also they are expensive and the puppies become used to the trainers giving commands. So when you try to do the exact same thing as the trainer, you will be surprised to find a little less enthusiasm in doing the tricks.

The more time you spend with your puppy, more is the growth of the bond that you both will share. Its really surprising the things you will also learn in the process of nurturing this little bundle of joy who has nothing but unconditional love to offer. And the world could definitely use some love!

Dogs love getting dirty and they won’t even mind to smell stinky, on the other hand, pet owners will like to them smell good.
Bathing plays an important role in the life of dogs but they feel rarely excited jump into the bath tub. You can either clean him up by the help of veterinary or you, too, can wash him easily. First I will tell you why bathing dog is beneficial for him. Washing him is good for his healthy skin and shiner fur. Regularly cleansing process with proper arrangement is the key of a good – looking dog. They may develop diseases or infection because of poor hygenie and can also transmitted to humans.
Also, bathing time may helps to create a unique bond between you and your dog by spending time.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD YOU WASH YOUR DOG?

Washing_a_dog_in_a_bath_tub
Dogs don’t really need daily bathing like us, but they do need bathing regularly. But regular bathing also depends on several factors.
♦ Dogs with oily coat needs bathing once in a week.
♦ Many short – haired breeds lik Beagles and basenjis don’t need regular bathing as they are very meticulous in their personal hygeine.
♦ Dogs with thick coats do best with fewer baths
Most of the dogs should bath once a week. However if we wash him more than often then it can dry out his skin.
But if he loves to get into dirt and mud then you may have to bathe him more than often.

You must do some preparation before bathing your dog as proper preparation can make the whole process easier for you. Also by knowing the proper technique of bathing dog makes it easier for you.

1. CHOOSE A LOCATION :- The first step which you will have to do is to choose a proper place where you wants to wash him. You must remember that bathing dog can make the place muddy and sloppy. Be prepare to clean the hairy and wet bathroom if you are going to use bath tub. Bathing him outside will probably the better idea.
2. ASSOCIATE BATHE WITH GOOD THINGS :- Most of the dogs find bathing time abhorrent so you must do something so that they start enjoying this time. You can always do things which your dog love the most before bathing like treats, his favourite chew toys, a walk in the park etc. Soon he will feel better about it. And if he feels good, he will behave better during bathing time. You can give him some tasty treats right after getting him into the bath tub. If he feels nervous during the time, you can play some games with him. Soon, he will realize that bathing is fun and you need not to worry everytime you decided to wash him.
3. BEFORE BATHE :- You should gather the all the items you need during washing the dog – towel, shampoo, sponge but put it close to you but not in the way that it can be kicked and splashed by your dog. You should trim your dog’s nails before bathe as he can be frightened and use their claws in order to run away from the tub. Choosing a good shampoo can also be difficult for you. You can ask from vet which shampoo you should use, read directions before using it. Never use human shampoo to dog as it is not right for dog’s skin and fur.
4. DURING BATHE :- First try to get him used to the water, you can spray water on his shoulder and back. You should not hurt him during bathing as it will increase the resistance to being bathed next time and you might face more difficulties in the future. After he relaxes, wash his head. Lather up his body with shampoo, you can use the sponge or washcloth to remove the water around the nose, mouth or eyes.
You can also use the brush in order to work shampoo on the coat of dog if he has shorter hair. If he has longer haur, then in order to avoid tangles, massage his coat in the direction of hair growth. Rinse the dog with slightly – heated water after the lathering.
AFTER BATHE :- After bathe, use your hands to squeeze the excess water from the body. Then wrap him up in a towel and rub him dry, gently. If he has longer fur then you can use blow dryer.

TIPS :-
1. The water should be lukewarm, not too hot, as hot water may dry out his skin and also he may feels itchy after the bathe.
2. If you wants to use dryer, you can buy pet dryer but never use your dryer on high temperature as it may burn out his skin.
3. Do not let the water to get into his ears or eyes. To prevent this, you can put the cotton balls in his eyes and when you pour water on his head, close his eyes by your one hand.

People are aware of their own teeth like, we know about the cavity prevention, plaque control and bad breath, and we also visits dentist for regular checkup, but what about dogs? Are dog owners aware of their dental problems? Well, some people might be familiar to their dental problems and some not. download

Cleaning teeth can increase the energy, health and life of your dogs. Your dog might not let you to clean his teeth first, but you can make a habit of this, hopefully. According to experts, brushing his teeth daily is perfect but of you often busy in your work then you have to take out time from your busy schedule atleast once or twice a week for your dearest friend. This will keep the hazardous diseases away from your dogs such as periodontal disease which can not only harm their teeth, but also other parts of the body. Try to buy the brush which are specifically designed for canines and if your dog is a bigger-sized then look out for a bigger brush and if he is smaller then smaller-sized brushes would be better. The most important thing is don’t use human tooth paste, they can be harmful for your dogs as it includes flouride which is awfully poisonous for dogs, you can buy toothpastes from the pet store. If you want to brush their teeth peacefully then its better if you brush their teeth after his exercise as he’ll be too tired. Start brushing teeth of your dog very slowly, rub his gums on front and then both sides. but if he feels agitated or disturbed, you can quit. The more you brushes his teeth, the more he’ll get used to it. During cleaning his teeth, try to brush his teeth gently so that he can enjoy the flavour of toothpaste. After cleaning his teeth, you can give him treats as reward.

Get a Dog. Check. Vaccinate the dog. Check. Walk the dog. Check. Feed the dog. Check. Groom the dog. Oh, no. Sounds familiar? In the excitement of finally owning a dog one tends to ignore the crucial aspect of grooming. Agreed walking, feeding and vaccinating are just as important. Walking ensures regular exercise combined with regular bowel movements. Vaccination keeps the dog’s heath and infections in check in the longer run as well. And feeding is important for proper nutrition. But regular grooming is essential as it ensures the dog continues to remain healthy and happy. Grooming is not only about regular bathing. It also constitutes a large number of elements for overall well being.

images
Bathing the dog regularly is vital to keep the dog’s body clean and the fur supple. The frequency of bathing depends on the breed of the dog, the climate of the city and the season. Certain dogs that have more fur need to be bathed more frequently as dust, etc tends to settle into their fur. Similarly, frequency of bathing increases with the rise in temperature. This ensures the dog remains cool even in the hot summers. In colder climates one can afford to space the bath times wider than usual, and also it prevents the dog from falling sick.

images (1)
Regular trips to the veterinary doctor form an integral part of the grooming process. The doctor keeps you updated on the dog’s health. He can advise you on necessary precautions to be taken best suited to your needs and the current scenario. He will keep you updated on the advancements is grooming requirements and methods. Also, regular checkups can inform you about any allergies and infections that need special care and consequently one can decide on the best suited products you can use for taking proper care of your dog. It is also an effective measure to ensure that there is no odor.

download
Most dog owners, especially ones with dogs that have more fur, usually complain about finding hair all around the house. This is caused by shedding. It is akin to how humans shed dead cells, but we can’t see it. The most effective way to control the shedding is by daily brushing. Everyday preferably after the morning walk, one must diligently brush your dog’s coat for a stipulated amount of time. The brushing should be done all over the body in a fixed direction, over and over, until there is no further loss of hair. This not only ensures a cleaner house, but also keeps the dog’s coat soft and shiny, a trait especially valuable in show dogs.
Along with brushing of the coat, it should also be regularly trimmed, as deemed necessary. In certain cases long hair around the eyes causes discomfort in sight. Also longer hair around the paws could cause frequent tripping. And the longer the further, higher are the chances of fleas and ticks. In some cases the dog’s tail is also clipped, that is entirely the owner’s prerogative, but if done it should be done painlessly and with utmost care and precaution.
A dog’s paws are one of its most important assets. It uses them for walking, running, digging, playing and other activities. Because, they are constantly in contact with the ground, they tend to accumulate higher amounts of impurities, than the rest of the body. But for the same reason they tend to be ignored while bathing, as the paws are in contact with the ground, so their condition is not easily visible. It is absolutely essential to ensure the dog’s paws are always clean, neat and tidy. Proper care should be taken to remove all dirt stuck to the base of the paws, and in the nails.
At the same time, regular clipping of the dog’s outgrown nails is equally important, not only for hygiene purposes, but also for comfort. Overgrown nails act as obstacles in the dog’s ability to walk and run with ease. Especially on tiled flooring, the dogs find it especially uncomfortable, if its nails are not groomed well. Not only that, overgrown nails can easily hurt the owners and other people that pet or play with the dog. The dog does not intentionally hurt them, but the injury could lead to verbal or physical abuse at times, through no fault of its own.
In a large number of cases, the owner tends to ignore the importance of cleaning the dog’s eyes and ears regularly. The ignorance is not voluntary, but due to lack of knowledge and awareness. It is of significant hygienic importance. It also ensures the dog’s vision and hearing ability are not compromised. Also, it is an important criterion when a dog is being judged on dog shows.
Similarly, dental hygiene is of equal importance. Ideally a dog’s teeth should be manually brushed twice a day, just as in the case of humans. Regular brushing and cleaning of the mouth, means minimum odor and possibility of plaque and cavities is significantly reduced.
Proper grooming in all aspects ensures a healthier and happier dog, while at the same time it allows the owner to have a cleaner home and reduces the load of probable future trouble.
