I have pet a lot of cats since childhood but they have all been strays. I have found all of them equally cute and equally unique. I have seen cats at adoption centers too. Some of them were exotic to me. But of course, they were all individual entities with their own distinctive traits. But after a little breed-wise research about the most unique cats, I came up with this list.

abyss 1

Abyssinian: Abyssinians have a special trademark feature – they have a ticked coat! Their individual hairs are banded with different colors which gives their coat a ticked look. Kittens are born with a darker coat that lightens as they grow older. Abyssinian is a very beautiful breed of cat.  It has a slender body and is medium in size. Its head is a little wedge shaped, with a slight break at the muzzle. It has large pointy ears that give it a look of alertness all the time. Its remarkably expressive eyes are either golden, green, hazel or copper in colour and are almond shaped depending on the colour of its coat. Its legs are longer in proportion to its body and its paws are small and oval in shape. The same goes for its tail- it is long and tapered on the end.

beng 1

Bengal: It looks like they apply mascara to their eyes, which is a unique trait in the Bengal cats. The Bengals have a cute body structure. Their head is small and a rounded wedge shape. Their eyes are large and oval and set slightly slanted. They have a strong chin and broad chest. They have a long torso which gives them a foreign as well as oriental look. Their paws are large and rounded with prominent knuckles. Their hip region is pretty muscular, especially in the male. The tail is thick, medium length and rounded at the end. Their hind legs are smaller than their forelegs too. Their coat hair length differs from short to medium. Bengal cats have “wild-looking” markings, such as large spots, rosettes, and a light or white belly. A Bengal’s rosette-d spots occur only on the back and sides, with stripes elsewhere. They have an interesting wild look and an exciting personality!

toyger 1

Toyger: As the name suggests, Toyger looks like a ‘Toy Tiger’! With a striped coat, it is reminiscent of the tiger’s coat. It has a very well defined, long, broad and deep muzzle with rounded muscular contour and the shape of its face resembles an inverted heart shape that makes this cat very adorable looking! Its head medium-sized and has a dominant muzzle on an oval head. It has small, round ears that are set toward the back of its head and has short and thickly furred temples and its eyes are set wide apart like a predator’s. Usually its eye colour is rich and deep. Its torso is long, muscular, athletic and robust. Its tail is very long but not thick, with a blunt, rounded tip. Its fur is dense and short. It has short hair. Its colour markings are very dark and are either black, brown or tan, with an extreme ground pattern contrast i.e. the colour of its stripes and the rest of its coat.

mau

Egyptian Mau: If you have watched Halle Berry’s ‘Catwoman’, then you know which breed I am talking about. Their hind legs are longer than their front legs, which gives them the appearance of standing on their toes when they are upright. They also land on their back feet more often than their front. Maus are small to medium sized and have short hair. The spots of the Mau occur only on the tips of the hairs of their coat rather than on their skin. Maus are the fastest of the domestic cat breeds.

nfc

Norwegian Forest: The equilateral triangle-shaped head of the Norwegian Forest Cat contributes to the unique appearance of this breed. It is a large, semi-longhaired breed whose rugged appearance fits the name. They have large almond shaped eyes and have very hairy tails that gives them a very enchanting look. ‘Wegie’ is short for the gentle and friendly Norwegian Forest Cat. Because of their place of origin, Norway, they have woolly undercoats and long topcoats that shed water with ease. ‘Skogcatt’ is the local name for this breed.

manx

Manx: Not having a tail doesn’t make them any less of a cat and that is exactly what a Manx proves! They have a naturally occurring mutation that either shortens their tail or makes them entirely tail-less! Apart from this distinctive feature, Manx cats are just like other cats. They come in all shapes and sizes. They are known by another name ‘stubbin’, since their tails are like stubs. People have also sub divided them into two categories- ‘rumpies’ that have absolutely no tail and ‘stumpies’ that have a small hint of a tail.

maine 2

Maine Coon: The Maine Coon is the official Maine State Cat! It is the oldest and largest domesticated breed of cats in the world. It is also known as the American Longhair. They have a sturdy, rugged appearance, which includes an uneven, shaggy coat of three distinct lengths and a long, well furnished tail. They carry that tail proudly and use it to surround themselves for warmth and protection in the harsh cold of Maine. They have well tufted paws to allow ability to walk on top of snow despite their size and weight. Their ears are large and well tufted for protection and warmth. They have been dubbed the “Gentle Giant” of the cat world!

munch

Munchkin: Munchkins are ‘regular cats’ with short legs. They owe their short legs to a naturally-occurring genetic mutation, and not from human manipulation. Don’t think that their short legs preclude them from jumping on the owner’s sofa or chair. They might not go as high as other cats, at least not in one leap, but they get there eventually. They have a moderate body type and medium-plush coat. They come in all coat colors and patterns due to its outcross with many other breeds. They also comes in a long-haired variety has a semi-long silky coat. They also have an endearing way of sitting up, rabbit-like, on their hind legs, a trait which gave the Stalingrad cat the name of “Stalingrad Kangaroo Cat.

ragamuffin

Ragdolls and Ragamuffins: They are perfectly named as they become very limp like a ragdoll when they are picked up! They all have oval shaped blue eyes and a distinct colour point coat. Ragdolls come in six different colors – red, seal, chocolate, flame, blue, lilac and cream, including the tortoiseshell pattern in all colors. Ragdoll kittens are born white and their colour starts to develop after two months. The four different patterns are: Pointed (One color darkening at the nose, ears, tail, and paws), Mitted (Pointed with white mittens on paws and abdomen), with or without a blaze (a white line or spot on the face plus a white belly stripe that runs from the chin to the genitals), bicolor (white legs, white inverted V on the face, white abdomen and sometimes white patches on the back) and lynx (any of the above patterns with tabby markings). They are medium long in height and have plumed tails and their fur gets matted.  They can be 3 times the size of other cats. They are muscular and semi-long haired. They have a bunny like coat which makes them very endearing. Ragamuffins are the same as ragdolls only their walnut shaped eyes can be any colour including blue and their coats cannot be pointed. Their fur does not matt and a weekly brushing will do. They tend to overeat and become obese. Owners should keep an eye on what their cats are eating. They love attention and love kids.

In humans, the pregnancy period is quite a delicate time, so is for animals. Proper attention care is required towards the animal whether it is diet, safety, exercise or meds. First thing to keep in mind is that, you should not breed your pet unless are ready to take up the responsibility of the litter. Just for the matter that your dog/cat should have the experience of having a litter is not a reason enough for breeding your pet. Also if you have already planned for it then you should go to a responsible breeder who has considerable knowledge about your breed. You can also consult the vet first to get the breeding done.

After your dog/cat is in the gestation period, a lot of attention and care is required from your side being an owner. Below are few important points that you should realize while taking care of your pet.

Diet

c1

This is the first and the most important thing that your dog/cat needs good nutrition. Now that she is carrying babies, she needs to intake extra calories, to feed more than one. Improper diet can even lead to death of newborns. After mating and while gestation, you should make sure that your pet eats properly. During the first few weeks dogs eat in normal amounts but as the weeks precede so does their requirement. By the end of the gestation period they tend to eat 1.5 times their initial diets. Same applies to your cat so increase the amount of food you provide to your pet. Give your dog/cat commercial dog/cat food that is high in calories. Also talk to your vet about the dietary habits for your pet and how to make it better. Most importantly provide ample amount of water at all times.

Exercise and Fitness

dog_walking

You dog should undergo sufficient exercises though not vigorous ones. The target should be to ease the complications during delivery and not weight loss. Regular outdoor walks should keep your pregnant dog fit and fine. Cats usually take care of themselves on their own during pregnancy. They may undergo morning sickness like certain behavior changes, not having food on time, vomiting and restlessness. But worry not this is a part of the hormonal changes going inside her body. Sometimes you might not even notice such changes. If the cat doesn’t eat food for a long stretch of time do consult your vet. Weight loss is not recommended for your pet and a lot of rest and sleep is required, so don’t try to tire your pet, in the name of exercise. Again plenty of water is a must.

Discharge

d2

Your pet both dogs and cats experience discharge from genital area during pregnancy. The discharge is often pinkish in color in case of dogs and transparent in case of cats. If the color of discharge differs, it can be pus or blood. You should immediately contact your vet in this situation. In case of cats, if the discharge is pink it is a fungal infection while green discharge indicates bacterial infection.  After delivery discharge is normal in case of cats, which can be thick and either punk or brown in color. This continues for 10 days so no need to worry. Discharge during pregnancy should be taken seriously ignoring certain conditions can even lead to abortion or premature delivery.

Surroundings

2

To make your dog/cat go through the gestation period comfortably you need to ensure that their surrounding environment is stress free and tranquil. Make separate bedding for your cat, some time before her due date like a box. Provide comfortable bedding or base, by putting a soft towel, blanket or may be an old launder that makes them feel warm and cozy. Place it in a silent location; make it a point to keep it away from other pets and children in the house so that your cat/dog may rest silently without any disturbances. Let her know where the box is kept but don’t force her to be there. She may end up choosing some other location to give birth or may even make changes according to her wish in her newly made space. Keep your pet away for three weeks after parturition so as to prevent transmission of any potential diseases.

After Birth Care

d1

You should make sure that your pet feels comfortable and secure around people in the house. Keep a separate den for the new mommy where she can feed and tender to her litter without any trouble or disturbances. Keep a bowl of water close by, but make sure that pups don’t fall into it by mistake. Change the bedding regularly to avoid smell and maintain hygiene in their resting place. Clean the puppy poop from time to time, although in case of cats, the queen, that’s what the new mommy is called, tends to eat up her baby poop, clean and groom them simultaneously. This behavior is sometimes seen in dogs too and is fairly normal. Ensure that your pet has proper food even during lactation. Whenever you feel any abnormal changes like loss of appetite in your pet, insatiable thirst, discharge etc contact your vet.

All parents keep complaining about how tech savvy their kids have become and how they would rather spend time with their gadgets than with them. Have you ever realized that this is the exact same thing that your pet could be thinking about you when you are posting away on Facebook/ tweeting/ instagramming, playing on your XBOX or PS, or simply talking or texting via your phone? Being tech savvy is not all bad when it comes to pets though. Today, the average pet owner spends a fortune on the well being of his cuddly buddy. Keeping this trend in mind, the innovative technological industries have come up with many gadgets that could make your pets life better, let you monitor your pet when you are away, alert you about any impending illness etc. Some of the coolest ones are:

1. Pet’s Eye View Camera: It is a lightweight digital camera that can be attached to your cat or dog’s collar. It takes up to 40 photos at 5, 10 or 15 minute intervals. When you come home, you can load the pictures onto your computer to see what your pet has been up to all day. Although, there is another word for this – spying on your pet!

2. Doggles: These sunglasses for dogs screen out UV rays and protect against foreign objects like bugs, grass seeds and wind. It is also ideal for dogs that are sensitive to light due to an eye disorder. Doggles include shatterproof, anti-fog lenses with 100% UV protection and two adjustable elastic straps to keep it secure during any activity. This way, your dog can protect his eyes and look cool at the same time!

3. Poop-Freeze: Do you wish that you didn’t have to clean up the mess every time your pet vomits or has diarrhea right on your carpet or floor? Poop-Freeze is an emergency aerosol pet product that “freezes” vomit/poop into a single entity that can be picked up easily and discarded. The frosting process is said to rid smells immediately, making it ideal for pets undergoing potty training. It can be used both on carpet and vegetation.

4. Hydro Horse: Don’t have time or space to exercise your horse? Get a Hydro Horse Submerged Treadmill System, a combination treadmill, whirlpool and swimming pool, and all your problems of horse petting are resolved. The horse is partially buoyant in a water-filled tank, and the temperature-controlled water with Jacuzzi jets that are designed to relax muscles and eliminate stress on joints. Wish you could get one of these for yourself right?

5. Hydro Surge Rapid Bath Dog Bathing System: Isn’t it hard to drag your dog into the bathroom to give him a bath? H.S.R.B.D.B.S. can take this problem off your hands! It is an “all-in-one” wet, wash and rinse dog-bathing solution. The shower jets provide a massaging action, and the product’s patented Inject Air technology draws shampoo and oxygen into the water to create instant soaping and rinsing. The nozzle’s comb head allows you to remove loose hair and dander whilst untangling fur. Pretty cool, right?

6. ReptiPro 5000: are you into keeping lizards and other oviparous reptiles as your pets? With the ReptiPro 5000 incubator, you no longer have to be a breeder to raise your bird or reptile pets from their egg stage. The small, electric incubator allows you to regulate the temperature up to 140°F, and like an oven, it comes with an interior light on/off switch in the front, a drip tray and a see-through window so you can watch your pet being hatched. I can feel my senses going ‘Jurassic Park’ again!

7. Go Dog Go : Are you that busy that you cannot play fetch with your dog? You should not be a dog owner (just saying!). But just because you’re busy doesn’t mean your dog can’t play fetch. Go Dog Go is an automatic fetch machine for dogs that shoots out tennis balls. Using the remote control, you can set your Go Dog Go to any one of three modes: the two automatic modes launch a ball every seven or 15 seconds, and the manual mode launches a ball only when you press the button.

8. Zen Dog : Want to turn your dog into a peaceful pet? Zen Dog is a kit designed to provide therapy and relaxation for your dog through calming music and massage. The product aims to cure fears of vacuums, thunder and other loud noises. It can also help with separation anxiety, hyperactivity, inability to walk calmly on and off a leash, and poor interaction skills with people. Each kit contains two CDs, a brush for massaging and grooming, and an instruction guide.

9. Ionic Waterless Bath Pet Massage Brush : You no longer have to bathe your pet every time you want him or her to smell clean. This brush massages and silently circulates 100 trillion air-cleansing ions per second through the animal’s fur to remove odors and reduce dander and shedding. This is an alternative for those who don’t enjoy messy baths – pets and owners alike.

pettech2

10. Komfort Pets Carrier : Ever wondered how it would feel to roam around with your own personalised heater on cold winter nights or carry an A.C. with you on a hot summer afternoon? You cannot have it, but your dog certainly can! Komfort pet carrier is automatically programmed to heat or cool your pet as needed. The carrier’s temperature control system is designed to complement the natural methods by which a pet regulates its own body temperature, using conduction and convection simultaneously. Even Paris Hilton owns one for her famous Chihuahuas and Pomerians!

11. Peticure Nail Groomer : Do you get yourself manicures or pedicures? Well, you can atleast get pedicure for your pet! Clipping your pet’s nails can cause problems like ingrown nails, torn skin, foot injury and sharp nail edges. The Peticure provides a controlled, safe experience for filing your pet’s nails, making them rounded, smooth and not too short. The electric, rotary filing removes excess nail by filing down enamel in controlled increments. Prices range according to the size of the file, which comes in petite, elite and power.

12. Positive Identification of Pet (Mobile App): Pet owners can register their animals with the app, which stores a photo and basic information about your furry friend. If your pet then goes missing, you can activate an alert, which prompts PiP to contact you for more information about your situation, as well as broadcast the information to animal shelters and veterinary clinics within a 15-mile radius of the pet’s last-known location. If someone finds a pet, he or she can upload a photo of the animal’s face and PiP will check its database to see if the picture matches any pet profiles.

These are just a handful of pet-techs available! There are more like video games for your pets, Pet Emergency Evacuation Jacket, The Canine Treadmill, Remote Pet Feeder, Litter-Robot etc. Pretty groovy, right?

A friend of mine had Mimi, a female cat, who got pregnant without anyone discovering her condition until the day she went into labour. She quickly gave birth to three gorgeous female kitties and one handsome male kitty. She only left their side to visit the litter box and have her meals. But as her faith in her humans was immense, she started venturing outside the house once her kittens were 3 weeks old. This led to an unfortunate event – Tim, the male kitten, got electrocuted while he was trying to chew a wire and died. After his funeral, my friend decided to research on how to take care of kittens. I helped her with it, and I learnt quite a few surprising things in kitten care. I hope that if you plan on having a little-wittle kitty-ku (getting carried away with their cuteness… Sorry, I meant little kitten) in your house, you need to know a lot of things.

writ kit4

Here are the things to do when kittens are born at home:

1. Before their arrival: If your cat is pregnant and you know it (which every responsible owner should know, unlike my friend), you should prepare a comfortable place for her to give birth in. You could take a big enough cardboard box and lay tissues and old newspapers in it and put a clean towel on it. This way, when blood and other substances come out of your cat along with her kittens, the towel and papers can soak it up. Immediately after the birthing process is over, change the papers and towel. This box should not be placed near chemicals, tools, machinery, wires and other such potentially harmful things.

2. During their influx: Cats usually do not need any help in child birth but once you realize that your cat is in labour, keep a vigilant eye on her and her well being. Sterilize a pair of scissors in case you need to cut the umbilical cord of a kitten which could get wrapped around its neck. Wash your hands thoroughly with anti-bacterial soap before attempting to go near your cat or her offsprings.

3. After the delivery: Do not touch kittens within the first week of their birth as they are very prone to infections. Do not attempt to feed them any other kind of milk. Their mother will fulfill their lactose needs herself. Feed your cat well and she will be able to feed her young ones properly.

4. Rapid growth and movement: By the time the kittens are about 3 weeks old, they would have opened their eyes and take in everything they can see. As the saying goes, “curiosity killed the cat”, cats are born curious. So they will start jumping around, climbing on things, clawing things, chewing things. Since you made a safe place for them, you need not worry. At 4-5 weeks, they can be given canned kitten food. A litter box should be placed close to them and their mother will educate them in that field. You just need to clean it regularly.

5. Play safe: Kittens love to play! Play with them, cuddle them, pet them, but only after you wash your hands with soap. Their immune systems are not strong enough yet and you do not want them to catch any illness or disease.

6. Clean and clear: Once the kittens start venturing beyond your house and into your garden, they will inevitably get dirty and most probably catch fleas. They need to be bathed or atleast sponged once a month. Do not scrub them. Gently rub their back with a soft cloth to remove all dirt. Use anti-tick cat formulae.

7. Give them away (conditional): If you are planning to sell the kittens or give them away, wait till they are atleast 8-12 weeks old. Educate the new owner about vaccines and shots and kitten care techniques.

writ kit3

Here are the things to do when you bring kitten/s home:

1. First day and first week: As soon as you take the kitten home for the first time, show it where the litter box and food/water are. Kittens do not usually need to be potty trained. Keep the kitten in one room and away from your other pets for the first week until it gets acclimatized to that room and gets friendly with you.

2. Food: Feed it 2-3 times a day. Keep water in a bowl for it as kittens dehydrate quickly.

3. Play safe: Get some cat toys or make homemade cat toys like yarn, wool ball etc. Play with them, cuddle them, pet them, but only after you wash your hands with soap.

4. Sleep well: Kittens are very active and due to their small size, they tire quickly. Do not wake a kitten at your whim. Buy it a cat bed. But it might need warmth and comfort and might still to choose to snuggle with you. So be careful not to squish, kick or injure your little kitten while sleeping.

5. Vaccines: Take your kitten to the vet timely and get it vaccinated. Do not forget to follow up on boosters. Do not let it out of the house until all the shots and their boosters have been given and the vaccination process is complete. You do not want your cat to catch any infection as cats are vulnerable to many.

6. First time venture: When you let your kitten out for the first time, keep a close eye on it until it returns to the safety of your home. Show it food when you need to call it. This way, it will know where to go back to after its outdoor adventures.

Happy cat-ing!

When anyone sees the adorable countenance of a cuddly cat, they want to take it home. But unlike popular belief, a cat needs a lot of maintenance. It may constantly groom itself but that doesn’t mean that the owner is exempt from keeping it clean. It needs to be taken to the vet regularly, its litter box needs to be kept clean and it has to be bathed atleast once in a couple of months. We hear people saying, “I’m not ready for a baby!” Well, your cat would be like your baby. So think wisely before adopting a cat. As a cat owner, I have learned that pets acquired by impulse quite often don’t work out. Here are some of the things one must keep in mind before bringing a feline friend home:

1)      Money Meow-ters: One should be financially prepared to provide the cat with atleast the minimum basics which are:

a)      Food

b)      Safe indoor environment

c)       Cost of spaying/ neutering

d)      Core vaccinations

e)      Emergency visit to the vet

2)      Catty Commitment: Cats can live upto the age of 10-14 years but some cats reach into their 30s too (oldest known cat, Creme Puff, died at the verified age of 38!) This is great news for people who are committed to love their cat for so many years, but fickle minded people who won’t look after their old cat when it needs them most should stay away from adoption centers.

3)      Kiddies and Kitties: If you have a toddler in your house, do not adopt a kitten, unless you can keep them both under complete observation all the time. Young kids may accidently hurt your little kitty and alternatively, could get bitten or scratched nastily. If you must, then get an older cat that has had en experience of being around tots.

cats2

4)      Claws and Carpentry: It has long been assumed that when cats scratch objects they are sharpening their claws. It turns out that this is only a secondary reason. Research on cat behavior suggests that the major reason for this behavior is communication. By roughing up the bark of a tree or the leg of your favorite chair, the cat is letting other cats or people know where she is and what she is up to. So this is expected behavior and you cannot stop it completely. But it can be reduced by providing it with a good scratching post and a regular nail clipping. NEVER get your cat declawed unless suggested by a vet because it is a painful and inhumane procedure. No cat lover can let their cat go through such agony. Get a cat only if the cat will matter more to you than your furniture.

5)      C-at-tention Seeker: Contrary to popular opinion, cats are very social animals and love attention from their owners. Your bond with your cat will last for a lifetime. A lonely, neglected cat will get into all kinds of mischief to amuse itself. In reality, you don’t have to be a slave to your cat. 15 minutes a day of play time and petting will mark the difference between a happy cat and a nuisance. You should keep in mind that you have to spend family time with your cat otherwise it will end up feeling unloved, lonely and moody.

6)      Feline grooming: Get a cat only if you can be responsible for it. You have to be patient with grooming your cat in the beginning. Cats don’t have a water resistant coat and becoming wet makes them uncomfortable. You have to be tolerant with your cat’s tantrums. You will have to regularly check for ticks and fleas or matting in long haired cats.

7)      Love: Of course, you have to have it in your heart to love your wittle (little in a pampering tone) kitty!

While you are going to be pouring your love on your pet kitty, you might think that unlike dogs, cats do not and/ or cannot show their love towards you. But ask the old bachelor who lives with his 27 cats about the love that they give him that no human could ever give. There are many ways a cat displays it’s love for it’s owner. Unlike dogs, cats don’t lick your face or jump at you when you return home. Instead, they profess their love through very subtle signs which most humans are unaware of. Some of these signs are:

1)      Purring: A cat purrs to express many things. But if it purrs while you are petting it or sitting close to it, you can be sure that it is expressing it’s love for you.

cats4

2)      Rolling: Cats don not like to feel vulnerable (but then who does?). If it throws himself at the ground at your feet and rolls around, consider it a loving gesture plus a way to seek attention.

3)      Sleeping: If a cat chooses to be vulnerable in your presence by either sleeping on your lap or next to you, it is really love.

4)      Bunting: When a cat cheek-rubs you, head-bumps your face, or pushes against you, it leaves its scented signature called bunting. They show their love in this way to other animals as well as humans.

5)      Scratching: If your cat scratches your favourite chair or favourite spot on the sofa, it is love.

6)      Kneading: Kitten paws knead against the mother cat’s breasts to induce milk to be released. Adult cats continue the behavior when they’re feeling most relaxed and content and loved, and that’s often when being petted on the owner’s lap. Kneading is an obvious expression of adoration.

7)      Gifting: From frogs to mice to pigeons, my cat has brought me a gift atleast once a week. Gifting its owner is a sign of love and gratitude.

8)      Playing: Kittens play out of excitement but cats play with only trusted people.

9)      Meowing: This is the special language through which cats communicate with their owners. If it didn’t love you, why would it put in efforts to talk to you?

10)   Grooming: Kitties that groom their owner by licking their skin or hair, or even nibbling or sucking on their clothing, indicates great affection. This spreads familiar scent and helps mark them as an important part of its family group.

11)   Tails: High up tail is a sign of respect and love that kittens show to their mothers and cats to their owners.

12)   Eyes: Cats that place their faces and wide open eyes near a human express great trust and love. A slow “eye blink” from across the room is considered a cat kiss.

13)   Butts: The “elevator butt” pose invites you to give special attention. Simply scratch her above the tail.

14)   Spraying: that cat will spray urine on their owner’s belongings so as to mark them with its smell.

Happy Petting!

One of the first and most important lessons that we have been taught, whether at our home or in the school, is about charity. Yet as we grow up, it somehow slips out of the minds of the majority of us. Nevertheless, there is a saying that goes, “It is better late than never”. So why not start now?
A few of the people who are interested in doing charity works refrain from them because they are of the opinion that humans have lost all their values and thus, do not deserve to be saved. Some others like me want to extend help towards the poor but are not sure if we are actually doing anything worthwhile. This is due to the evil that prevails in our society, wherein even the poor are involved in different rackets just to earn money through wrong means and doing so, some of them are now even richer than many hard working businessmen. Such instances cause us to lose our hope in humanity. So how can we possibly practice charity? So I have another alternative for all those who are interested in aiding the ones in need.

As we all know, animals are more pure in heart than us humans. Their intentions are always simple and true. They never have ulterior motives. All the people who own pets or who are very familiar with animals will also know that they are not selfish and will always put the ones they love before themselves. If this is not enough reason for you to consider helping the neglected ones, then I suggest that you personally make friends with animals and see for yourself as to how kind- hearted and loving they are. They are the ones who really deserve it.

PeTA is one such organization that is well known for its good works towards animals. It is a non-profit, world famous organization that was founded in 1980 and even today, works towards protecting animals in the different spheres that they are threatened. It is based in the United States of America but now has branches in other countries like India as well. PeTA is the largest animal rights group in the world and has the slogan, “animals are not ours to eat, wear, experiment on, use for entertainment or abuse in any way.” It has taken up many social cases as well as court cases to stop evil against animals. Many famous personalities worldwide are involved with PeTA to promote the good cause.
There are centers of PeTA across India. Apart from these, there are also other organizations that work for the betterment of animals. Some of them are Help Animals India, People for Animals, PAWS (Pet Animal Welfare Society) etc. Since they are on a noble mission, we too, can help them in kind or even by becoming a member of such associations. If you really are interested in doing something good for the neglected animals, you can join the nearest animal help group and partake in their activities. This will not only help them but also give you a sense of joy for being able to do something for those in need. Charity does not always mean giving monetary help. An extended meaning of charity is love. It is of no use if we only love in our hearts. It is important to show our love in our words and deeds. Only then can we make a difference in the lives of our speechless friends.

All animals deserve rights to live in this world. Every day in countries around the world, animals are fighting for their lives. Just because we are the superior race, it does not mean that we can torture other beings and use them for our gain. Animals do not need rights to vote or contest the elections. All they require are some basic rights like the right to live a normal, happy life. Is that too much for them to ask? Is it too much for us to give? I am sure that each and every one of us has come across an instance of animal abuse happening in front of us, at least once in our lifetime. But how many of us actually attempted to stop it?

images
Animals are simple beings. They do not need much to be happy. A little bit of love and care from us would be sufficient for them. If you cannot do major things for them it is not a problem. The least you can do is to feed some strays near your house and spend some of your time with them. They will be ever grateful and will never forget you. But if you can do more for them then never hesitate. We must always keep in mind that if we help the ones who need it most, then in our times of trouble, help will surely come to us

.download
As an animal rights activist, you can try to better the condition of animals in our society. You can spread awareness about animal harassment and prevent it. You can also educate people in your community and positively affect their attitudes and lifestyles. Instead of just waiting for somebody else to bring about positive change, you yourself can be that change. Animals cannot speak up. So let us be their voice and take action. They too, have a life and therefore they too must be allowed to live it in happiness rather than fear.

When one wants to feel special or look their very best, we put in hours and hours of efforts to make that happen. Spa treatments, visits to the beauty parlors, a new haircut, experimenting with beauty and makeup products and jewelry are essential steps of this process. No matter how tiring and time consuming it is, we don’t mind as eventually we are absolutely impressed with the outcome. But what happens when there’s an event around the corner and your pet is also invited. You would want it to look just as glamorous as you do. Of course you will try to make do with the tools available at hand, and it could be enough.

But for special occasions you need special care, so does your pet. Over the past few years there has been a rising trend across the world with pet salons catering to your little friend’s every need sprouting up. One only needs to refer to the exhaustive list of services provided by these salons, zero in on the requirements as per your wishes, and leave it up to the professionals to take care of the rest. This pampering does come at a price, but these adorable creatures are totally worth it. The services offered range from the most basic hygienic purposes to catering to your pet’s every glamorous requirement.

There are cases where a pet owner is unaware of some of the most basic hygienic demands that are essential for its well being. Or sometimes he is unable to allocate sufficient time for the same. In some cases, the pet becomes unusually aggressive when the owner tries to take care of it. Pet salons come to the rescue in such situations. Cleaning of teeth, gums, ears and eyes along with nail clipping are crucial for the pet’s health. The professionals are equipped with the necessary tools. They also have the required knowledge to take care of your pet, and to control it in case of aggressive behavior.

These salons also offer a variety of pet health services. If your pet is infested with ticks and fleas, or there is something wrong with their skin or fur, apart from a veterinary doctor, these pet salons can also prove to be helpful. Flea baths, proper cleansing routines, provision of repellants and skin lotions are some of the services that cater to your pet’s health requirements. At the same time, one must make sure that the professionals are updated about any probable allergic reactions. For a busy pet owner, pet salons are a boon.

After a long tiring day, a visit to the spa is heavenly. It calms your mind, soothes your nerves and prepares you for anything that is about to happen next. Similarly, a pet spa has a similar if not greater effect on your pet. It relaxes your pet and also gives you time to run some errands in the meantime. The services offered in pet spas are also varied. Specific treatments can be designed according to your requirements or your pet’s characteristics. Some spas also have services that aid in the general well being of your pet, in case there is a health defect in the picture.

Pet salons venture into the field of focusing exclusively on your pet’s physical appearance. Unique styling of your pet’s hair, a different hair cut, experimenting with application of human hairstyles in your pets such as Mohawks or even hair color are some of the services one can avail if one wishes to give a unique look to their beloved pet. The pet distinctly stands out, in such cases. Or if one wishes to remain rather subtle, it gives the pet’s appearance a clean finesse instead of rugged.

Certain pet salons provide owners with costumes fitted to the pet’s requirements. In events involving a pet’s participation, such as fancy dress or Halloween, the pet becomes the cutest most talked about entity. Pet salons also provide the owners with a selection of the most popular toys and accessories that can be used at such events or for daily use. One can also buy tools that can help you in pampering your pet, in the comforts of your own home. The right kinds of toys, hairbrushes, bathing soap, food, etc. are available at one’s disposal, that are suitable for your pet based on its size, age and breed.

Not only that, some salons also hold training lessons for the pet owners to keep them informed about the host of options available to them. This also increases awareness among them about the right way to take care of your pet such as in terms of grooming requirements. The rising expectation of pet owners to have the best pet is fuelling the growing demand for such establishments that cater exclusively to all kinds of pets. Pet salons are especially useful, when intends their pet to be a part of pet shows or if the pet has been chosen to appear in the media, such as advertisements, television shows or movies. So go ahead, pamper your pet, and be the centre of your pet’s attention and that of everyone else.

We all love our pets. And we try to do everything that we possibly can to ensure they lead a happy and comfortable existence no matter how short it may be. What we are able to provide is not only based on our pet’s requirements but also on the affordability. All pets deserve to be treated like royalty the standard for which is set by their respective owners. But there are certain lucky ones that live life truly king size. These belong to the rich and famous people of the world. One could even say that the kind of treatment that these pets receive is probably better than most humans do. Their standard of living is significantly higher than their relatively less blessed peers.

These dogs get their own houses to live in. and not just the typical doghouse. These fully fledged dog houses can come with fully functional temperature controlled swimming pools. Not just that, the houses too are temperature controlled with custom designed furniture to suit the dog’s size and needs complete with a television set. They have their own personal butlers and physical trainers at times available at their every beck and bark. Regular massages and luxury treatments keeps them healthy and happy. What’s more is that they travel too in incredible style. Air conditioned private jets in the company of their affluent owners and luxury yachts and cruise liners for overseas travels and for domestic nothing less than equally extravagant cars and planes are their preferred mode of transport.

Paris Hilton for example is particularly partial towards her Chihuahua. She has been seen carrying it around everywhere she goes in its own custom designed Louis Vuitton purse. Decked in branded sunglasses or clothes often coordinated with her own, she sure knows how to pamper her lovable pooch. This dog lives the high life. It gets to visit some of the most exotic places in the world, travelling in style and living in utmost comfort.  Hollywood celebrities live with their pets in eloquence. The food is fresh of the highest standards. They are also dressed in clothes custom made by designers like Dolce and Gabbana.

Some stars go to extreme lengths to keep their pets in close vicinity, living with just as many as comforts as they themselves do. A famous Bollywood actor was reported to buy an entire plot adjacent to his own home, exclusively for his pets. They would live, play and peacefully co-exist right next to the actor in question. They were provided with a 24 hour help who would be expected to take complete care in his absence. This proximity made sure that the actor could go and visit his beloved pets whenever he could and rejuvenate himself by playing with them when he felt it necessary.

Michael Jackson is another example of celebrities with a special bond with his pets. He was a step ahead of other celebrities. This is because he not only had typical animals like dogs, etc. as pets, but his favorite pet was a chimpanzee. He kept all his pets in his grand mansion equipped with its very own zoo and amusement park, he liked to call Neverland. He was one of the richest, most popular musicians of all time. With the resources at his disposal, he made sure this reflected in the kind of life his pets lived too. They would oftentimes accompany him in his private jet on his music tours all around the world. Their living arrangements were at par with his own in fully serviced suites.

There have been several instances across the world where a rich person has left all their inheritance and property to their pet’s well-being instead of their family members or friends. Their legal will clearly states that the millions of dollars in their name are now in the hands of their beloved pet. This is not restricted to dogs but cats too. After the pet’s death, the remaining inheritance is then utilized as donation to charities or further transferred to the pet’s off springs. Or it could be used in the upkeep of the residence. This not surprisingly does not bode well with the relatives of the person in question.

Sometimes burglars find it a good alternative to kidnap a rich person’s pet. This is because the net worth of the pet or the amount of money in the pet’s account is high enough to compensate for other materialistic gains. The pet is so dear to the owner, that they are willing to pay abnormally high amount of ransom money, just to get their beloved pet back. There are cases where the pet is much dearer to the owner than his own offspring. Many a movies have been made along these lines, where the kidnappers find it cumbersome to provide the pet with the same kind of lifestyle that it is comfortable with.

Some might call it a futile waste of money. Such affluent people should take the responsibility of not only providing their pets with such an extravagant lifestyle, but at the same time try to adopt stray, abandoned or sick animals as pets, those that genuinely need special care and attention. They must also invest in the setting up of establishments catering to care of animals.

The greatest most undeniable truth of life is mortality. Everyone dies. Growing old is a part of this journey that everyone undertakes. Growing old comes with a reduction in worldly responsibilities and duties. But sadly, it also comes with its fair share of problems. More often than not one’s health starts to deteriorate. The recovery rate is much lower than what one is used to. Repercussions of our youth’s ill- fated decisions begin to show. Along with that comes the onset of isolation. One begins to feel segregated from the rest of the world. One cannot seem to relate with so many aspects of life. Sometimes one’s own family is unable to spare sufficient time for us, and there’s that can be done. In some cases, the health of our friends or our own comes in the way of regular meet and greet. This situation is far worse, in case of disability. Disability in terms of physical health or mental both are equally heartbreaking.

eld 4

A pet animal is the single most effective way to combat loneliness and provide actual and virtual relief to the elderly and disabled. Your friends and family may not be around at all times, but a pet will always be by your side no matter what. And this holds equally true for any pet that one chooses. Pets seem to have a special bond with them. They can be truly understanding and extremely lovable. Animals are such adorable friends. They ask no questions and pass no criticism.

In certain cases, the elderly lose track of what has been said, and tend to keep repeating things. Other people around may not be comfortable in dealing with such instances and may lash out, making the person in question feel even more unwanted. Pets on the other hand give a patient ear for everything that one has to say and respond sincerely. They make up for any absence in the person’s life and make them feel wanted, to reinstate their feeling of significance in someone’s life.

eld 2

Spending time with a pet for an elderly person is good for their morale, uplifting their spirits and feeling of self-worth. Any act of love or kindness is received with utmost gratification. Pets treat their owners like they are the only thing that matter. They are the single most important person for a pet. A pet feels like it is their job to ensure the well-being of the owner, whether it is physical or emotional.

A pet at home is like a guarantee for the other members of the family for the safety and comfort of the elderly or disabled member of the family. They know that the pet will ensure that the person does not feel lonely or insecure in the absence of other family members. There are instances when the person and the pet are so close, that the relevance or value of presence of any other family member is significantly reduced.

Communication between the two becomes a regular feature in their daily schedules. The person talks chats with the pet, even though it may not understand exactly what is being said. But sometimes just listening intently is all that they need. In other cases the conversations are wordless, yet the pet understands if the person needs it to react or just reach out with a nuzzle and a soft sound.  Pets that may usually be considered loud, are sensitive around the elderly and disabled. A pet can recognize that it needs to be calm peaceful and quite when dealing with them.

Pets are especially adept at providing emotional support and physical comfort to them. Just stroking and gently petting your pet acts like an anti-depressant. It soothes the nerves and calms your mind. No actual conversation is required, and this time will be deemed as time well spent. Engaging in any kind of physical activity seems cumbersome if one is forced to do it. But when there is a pet for company, the elderly and disabled are encouraged to do what is necessary. Walking the dog or playing with the cat seems harmless while at the same time provide sufficient physical exercise for them and cheers them up.

Pets can be trained to act as passive companions. Such as a seeing dog is an immense asset for blind people. It is no wonder that hospitals and geriatric centers are increasingly adopting pets as an additional effort to aid in health care. Cats are known to be a proficient support system when a patient’s health is fast deteriorating. They can sometimes tell when he is about to pass away. Just watching a pet and spending time with them a stress reliever. Pets give love much more than what they receive without any expectations or falsifications. This true nature of a pet is a gentle reminder to the owner that they are loved and cared for. Scientific studies around d world continue to prove the value of a pet in one’s life. In addition to which, the faith and loyalty of a pet towards the owner even after their death has often been immortalized in literature and in movies.
