The Afghan Hound, a magestic name for a magestic breed, charachterised by a thick long coat, which when touched, reminds one of nothing but fine exquisite silk, with a comapritively short tail that has a sharp curve on the end, which resembles an exact hemisphere.

The Afghan Hound has many other names to it, such as the Kabul Hound, Kuchi Hound, Baluchi Hound, Tazi and many more.

A little about the past of the breed…the Afghan Hound originated in the chilly mountains of Afghanistan. The history of the breed hints at the possibilities of it having some association with wolves. The Afghan Hound that we see today has purely descended from the dogs brought in by the british during the 1920s. These dogs that were brought into the Great Britain were the product of variations of long haired sighthounds from dogs of Afganistan and its neighbouring areas. Initially these dogs were bred for the soul purpose of hunting and some owners used their hounds as guardians. The breed is also linked with the ancient world , where in the Afghan Hounds were owned by particular Afghan families who were considerably powerful and the dogs proved as status symbols for them.

Afghan-Hound-pictures

The Afghan Hound relates itself to a breed of dogs hailing from the Caspian Sea, the parts that include Russia and Turkmenistan. The area lies in a desert known as Sag-e-tazi, this name may very well have been a prominent reason behind calling the Afghan Hound Tazi. Surprisingly there are other breeds with similar appearances called the Taigen, they have a Chinese origin and have descended from the mountains of Tian Shan region on the Chinese border of Afghanistan and the Barakzay. The breed is also called the Kurram Valley hound. There are a majority of 13 different types of the these hounds that still exist in the regions in and around Afghanistan and some are still in the process of being developed through breeding.

Now let us discuss the appearance of an Afghan Hound, so when a proud owner looks at his Majestic Afghan Hound, his eyes are pleased to see a 24-29 inches tall dog, that weighs about 45-60 pounds. A silky, smooth coat which may range from brown to fawn to grey etc. Some rare specimens have facial hair that resembles a moustache and is known as ‘Mandarins’. The distinctive features of a good specimen include a top-knot and a shorter haired saddle on the dog’s back, the breed also has high hip bones and a small ring on the end of the tail. When investing in an Afghan Hound one needs to take extra care about the certain impurities that some specimens of the breed come with, such as, any kind of white markings, especially on the head and dogs with the colors red or black on them. These traits are usually discouraged and termed as impure, but if you are not very keen on showing your dog and buying it with the soul purpose of companionship then I suggest you overlook these minor signs of impurity.

afghan-hound-puppy-01

Now let us discuss the temperament of the dog, he is a puppy at heart and a fabulous entertainer (with his quirky styles and amusing behavior) while at play. But when he is not playing, the Afghan hound is aloof by nature. The owners must watch out for their dog having any contact with smaller animals as these dogs are not very comfortable around them and may bite or nip. Agility runs in their genes and this was one of the reasons why these dogs were used for hunting. They are a little poor at learning tricks and so they need to be handled with a lot of patience while training. Apart from all this, like every other dog, your Afghan hound shall be a great companion to you. Treasure him!

Like every other breed this breed too is prone to a certain health disorders which may sometimes prove to be fatal. Some health concerns include, Hip Dysplasia (an abnormal formation of the hip socket that can cause crippling and lameness), certain allergies and also the life taking Cancer. But an Afghan Hound taken care of efficiently, can live up to 12 years of age.

As far as the food is concerned, I would, as always, suggest home cooked food that includes our good old chicken broth and wheat bread. I would also like to suggest to all the owners to give your puppy Afghan hound calcium as the breed is prone to hip disorders and not only that, big dogs need strong bones and calcium shall help a lot . Some extra tips, groom your dog twice every day, as it has a considerably long coat that can get matted if not looked after. Grooming also maintains the shine of the coat. A hand massage would do wonders to the blood circulation as well as provide softness to the coat. Make your dog wear a tick collar as soon as it turns 6 months old. Bathe your dog at least once in two weeks. Love your dog, cherish it and DO NOT RAISE YOUR HAND ON YOUR DOG.

Most of us claim to be dog lovers, or better, animal lovers. We are all there for them when it comes to their up keep but most importantly when the time arrives to show them off to others. In this never ending quest to show off we often overlook what our dear dog actually requires, which is our company and undivided attention.

Our dogs (or any other animal for that matter) feel as though they rule the world when they know that we are around. So, this article of mine mainly focuses on how shattering it is for our dogs when we abandon them after we have had our fill and have given them en number of false hopes.

lonely dog

In today’s world, most of us are free, independent, working people. But sometimes this very independence starts to seem like a curse upon us, which makes us go into depression and then we start looking for something, anything that will help us overcome this loneliness. Many of us go and either invest in or adopt a pet, mostly a dog. For a span of a few weeks, we look after our new found friend but after a while we start to realize that our social gathering front has gone to the dumps or we suddenly can’t afford our dog or pet, a decision is taken to either leave it alone at home and go out (a temporary solution) or better just abandon it on the road (a permanent solution), I personally don’t respect such ruthless, spineless and selfish people.

While indulging in this shallow act, we fail to realize that our pets that look up to us, as if we are magic and have several expectations from us, have been let down completely. Our pets mean companions to us; some of us who are single and with no children treat them like our babies. Have we ever realized that we being humans have so many people in our lives, including our mother, father, siblings, aunts, uncles and all the other relatives we are surrounded by. But our pets have us and only us, we are their end and their beginning. If one of our relatives goes away from us, it doesn’t really pinch us because we know they will come back sometime or the other but our pets don’t understand our language, when we go away from them, all they see is darkness.

Now here I am not asking you to not keep any pets if you are single, all I am suggesting is to weigh all the pros and cons before you decide to invest in or adopt a pet, especially a dog, because it is your duty to be responsible for that little life your are adopting.

lonely_dog

Through This article I don’t intend to tell anyone that they are not capable of handling or even owning a pet, I just want you all to try and for once think and view things from your dog’s perspective, I talk about dogs because I own dogs and so I can understand how they must be feeling.

There was an incident I remember, when the Pug dog was chosen as a mascot for a mobile connection company, with that, every second household had a pug as a member of their family, they used it as a status symbol i guess. But soon after the people (not every one of them but most) had their fill of the dog they promptly went ahead and abandoned it on the streets. This was a heart wrenching incident for all the dog lovers. Many NGOs devoted to animal health care and preservation adopted as many dogs they could and sent them to good homes. My family too adopted a female pug dog and we named her Teesta, after the famous Teesta river.

Teesta taught us a lot, rather she taught me a lot. She was silver in color and highly adorable. I still remember how she went and hid under sofas and chairs on hearing the terms ‘Injection’ or ‘Doctor’. I don’t really have a picture of hers but she was quite a good specimen. I wont write much about the breed, just a few things that I want everyone to know about their dogs. They cant speak and so we as humans and more as owners need to dig a little deeper and be extra sensitive while owning a dog. We have no other choice but to understand how our dogs feel.

Every time we leave them they don’t know when we’ll return and so we should make proper arrangements for their entertainment and also make sure they don’t feel lonely. One of my friends owned a male Jack Russell who would only sleep if she sang to him, and so whenever she left the house and her dog was alone he would panic and stop eating, that would make him weak. After realizing that he was addicted to her singing she recorded her voice in a cassette and would play it for him before leaving the house, the voice would help him sleep and he would wake up only after she returned. With this she was at peace and so was her beloved dog.

152-big-1-1211331912

Nowadays, they have special television channels only for dogs, they help single masters to handle their dogs when they are out. These channels have videos of dogs recorded by their owners and so contain barks and activities of various dogs which divert the attention of your dog and keep it entertained so that it doesn’t miss you or destroy things in your house.

Also there are some cool dog salons and day care centers that are made especially for working people who own dogs. These day care centers have dog lovers as volunteers that help your dog get comfortable without you being around. They also take care of the dog’s food and health. You could drop them while going for work and pick them up while returning.

I personally feel dogs deserve their share of happiness just like us humans. So next time you feel you can’t take care of your dog, please DO NOT abandon it and kindly consider the above given alternatives.

P.S. DO NOT RAISE YOUR HAND ON YOUR DOG.

In the article I will be telling you about my experiences with our English Mastiff named Xeenah ( yes after the warrior princess). Xeenah was 3 months old when my father brought her home, she was fawn in color and very adorable.

So let’s start with discussing a little about the breed, the English Mastiff is also popularly called the Mastiff and has been said to have descended from the Alpine Mastiff in the 19th century. Since the time of their origin, they have increasingly gained popularity.

Now let’s talk about their appearance, when you look at your Mastiff from the front, you will see a humongous built, a huge square head, black nose, dark brown eyes, a broad square chest, a black snout, a black face and a wrinkled forehead. The naturally huge built makes the English Mastiff the largest breed in terms of mass.

The English Mastiff’s coat color ranges from apricot-fawn, to fawn, to silver-fawn and dark fawn-brindle. The Mastiff is blessed with a very smooth and shiny coat, but it is not very short and needs constant care.

B_apricot_brindle

One needs to take extra care of their Mastiff. Since they are big dogs, they need to be kept in a cool place. We kept xeenah in an air conditioned room which was exclusively her’s. Maintaining a Mastiff is a little difficult as they have a large body, the wrinkles on their forehead need to be lifted and cleaned as they can catch dirt and sometimes maggots. They need to be brushed twice or thrice daily, as they have a considerably long coat and shed a lot of hair. Don’t forget to make your Mastiff wear a tick collar to prevent fleas and ticks. The dogs should be bathed once in two weeks to rid their coat and skin off the natural oil secreted by their skin, which attracts a lot of dust and dirt.

Like any other dog, the English Mastiff too has various health issues including, Hip disorders, Vaginal problems, arthritis etc. They need regular exercise to prevent any bone disorders. When your Mastiff is a pup do make sure you keep it on a non slippery ground, as constant slipping may lead to rickets, since they are heavy dogs. We had to make Xeenah run around for at least 3 hours at a stretch every evening just to keep her limbs lubricated. Also they feel thirsty a lot so make sure you keep bowls of water, in all your Mastiff’s favorite spots of the house, as they are very lazy and would prefer to dehydrate themselves rather than go looking for water to drink.

Now let’s discuss the temperament of the English Mastiffs, they are basically very docile dogs and are highly well behaved around children and the elderly. Xeenah was a very well behaved dog until she saw a stranger. Another reason behind keeping Mastiffs in a cool place is that the heat may make them irritable and they may resort to biting. But all in all they are an adorable breed, very loyal, highly sensitive, very brave and can be trained well with patience. We taught Xeenah to sit, stay, speak (bark), and lie down. The English Mastiff is one of the breeds that are addicted to being highly pampered. Train your dog with patience and DO NOT RAISE YOUR HAND ON YOUR DOG.

91ea19320d4d1f8edf007bb07918ba19

As far as the food is concerned, as always, I would personally recommend home cooked food for your bud, such as good old chicken broth, butter milk and chapatti. As the Mastiff is a huge dog, they need to be fed at least twice or thrice in a day. While training your dog you could treat them to meaty chew sticks and dog biscuits. These meaty chew sticks available in the market help in broadening your dog’s head. As a broad head and sturdy square broad chest makes your Mastiff stand apart.

Since Xeenah entered our house, she was pamperd and treated just like one of us. She had her own room, away from the rest of the dogs. Her room had an air conditioner. There were two dog boys in our house and two cooks. One of each exclusively for Xeenah. Her cook made her meals and her dog boy was in charge of ensuring that her room was spic and span, also he would clean Xeenah thrice a day and would give her an oil massage twice every week. Her cook would get chicken separately for her and keep it in a fridge with xeenah’s food and medicines.

Every time my father went abroad, he would buy clothes for us and goodies for Xeenah. He treated her like his baby. There were special outings planned for her. Whenever we went out for a drive Xeenah had to be with us. She has traveled with us just like a member of our family would. My mother would personally pack Xeenah’s things and food for the journey.

Though they are spoiled, you can trust your Mastiff to make you proud when ever they get chance to do so. Xeenah made us all mighty proud.

Xeenah was 8 years old when she passed away due to old age and organ failure. She was a very dear friend, an important teacher and our baby. Our darling Xeenah, where ever you are, you are missed. We love you.

Thanks to my Father, I have owned dogs of various breeds, starting from Rottweilers and Dachshunds, Bull dogs to French bull dogs, to English Mastiff and Fox Terriers, from Rhodesian Ridge backs to Pugs to Shih- Tzu and Harlequin Great Danes. But the breed that has always been in our family is the Labrador Retriever,in all the three primary colors but mostly black.

The Labrador Retriever belongs to the family of Gun Dogs and is also popular as ‘Lab’ or just ‘Labrador’. This breed originated from the breed called St. John’s Water Dog which is also known as Lesser New Found land. The dogs were christened thus after the geographic area of their origination called the ‘ the Labrador’.  Another reason behind calling the breed so was also because they were ‘retrieved’ in the Labrador Sea. But the breed actually originated in the Island of New Found land and the creation of the New Found land Dog {the breed} took place around the same time in the Labrador. So basically the two Breeds’ names and their origins have been royally confused. The short of the long is that actually the Short coated dog from New Found land became the Labrador Retriever and the large long coated one that originated in the Labrador, came to be known as the New Found land Dog.

Labrador Retrievers are very well behaved dogs and can be trained easily. They are also very agile, athletic and playful. Labs prove to be the ideal family dogs since they are well behaved around children and the elderly. Due to their alertness they are trained as assistance dogs for the physically and visually impaired or mentally unwell people including people who are suffering from Autism. Labs also serve as efficient police dogs.

The Labrador retriever comes in three primary colors that are, Black, Chocolate Brown and Golden or yellow. But of course there can be variations in their shades, but these variations are not considered to be the signs of a pure specimen. There is another color called Silver that exists in Labs but is discouraged and considered impure. We had one male Golden Labrador, a female chocolate brown and the rest so far have been black. This article is actually about a black Labrador, who changed my perspective towards dog training and habits. Okay, I’m talking about our darling Fendi (picture at the end of the article ) a three year old black Labrador Retriever who simply refuses to behave like a grown up, since it just doesn’t appeal to her. Just like any other lab she too has a knack of getting her way and she uses her manipulative eyes to lure us into doing her work (mostly giving her bits of what we’re eating).

Trois couleurs Labrador

Now some general information, Fendi like all other labs, has a considerably long coat, which needs constant care. It has to be brushed twice every day. Since labs are very fond of having baths, they should be either given a plain water bath every day (only during summers) or taken for a swim. Swimming and running shall maintain the agility of the dog and keep its limbs working perfectly fine. Their nails should be clipped regularly to prevent breakage.

Don’t depend on dog food for your dog, give it home cooked food such as chapati and chicken broth or butter milk. To broaden the dog’s head and strengthen its jaws you could treat them with meat chew sticks available in the market.

Till your dog is 6 months old keep it on a halter when and if you tie it , since collars are capable of damaging the tender neck of the dog. Also on the completion of 6 months by your dog, you should make it wear a tick collar to prevent ticks and fleas. I suggest after six months because the harsh chemicals on the tick collar may lead to rashes on the pup’s soft skin.

You must be wondering why I chose such a title if I had to give general information on dogs, well, you shall see the relevance of the title now when we discuss the behavior of the Labrador retriever. Labs like any other dogs are very greedy, all they think about is food (mostly), so when we brought Fendi home, she was obviously very fond of eating. We thought she ate so much because she was a growing pup but later we realized that it was one of her natural traits. So, whenever she saw us eating she would constantly beg. So sometimes we teased her by pulling away her bowl of food, just to see her reaction, on seeing this she would bark and whine but then she would do the same when we didn’t share our food with her. This trait helped me come up with the title that describes one of their most prominent traits, “what’s mine is mine but what’s yours, is definitely mine!!”

Labs are basically ‘Grown up pups’, I say that because the chances of their mental maturity is 10-11 % and sometimes not even that. I talk with experience, trust me, Fendi is now 3 years old and a mother of 4, but still hasn’t matured. Her toys just like for most labs, are her priceless possessions and she only trades them for food or to sleep on our beds.

Training labs is not a hassle at all, they are fast learners and if taken into hand at an early age of 3 months (by tenderly talking to them, toilet training them), they can be well trained by the time they are three years old. Treat your lab like a child and keep talking to them, they understand around 30 words and commands, but if you keep conversing with them, they begin to understand and respond to day to day phrases. Apart from ‘sit’, ‘stay’, ‘come’, ’lie down’, Fendi understands sentences like ‘Go to mama’, ‘Who’s toy is this’, ‘Don’t touch that’ and much more.

When your lab begs do not lose your temper with it, since they are sensitive dogs. Be patient and train them by telling them to go away and when they do go away treat them with a biscuit or a meaty chew stick. They will soon stop begging. DO NOT RAISE YOUR HAND ON YOUR DOG.

All this and more has been taught to me by our darling Fendi.

This article of mine is about the best dogs ever ( well every dog is the best for their master but i am talking in terms of my own experiences with Ridgebacks). Our ancestral home has around five Ridgebacks, out of which one is my own. I am talking about my darling baby Zarah, I refer to her as my baby not only because I brought her up like my child but also because I helped my dog Shauna, in delivering Zarah and her siblings. Since, Zarah’s eyes opened she became one of the best teachers who helped me understand the breed called the Rhodesian Ridgebacks.

Popularly known as the African Lion Dog or the African Lion Hound, these dogs were bred by the African tribe Khoikhoi, who inhabited the Cape Peninsula, in order to prevent being attacked by Lions. The Ridgebacks are a mixture of various breeds brought in by the Dutch who invaded parts of Africa, such as, the Great Dane, Terriers, Blood Hounds and Grey Hounds, which were mixed with the dogs owned by the Khoikhoi tribe, popularly called the Indigenous African dogs. This mixed breeding later on led to the creation of the Rhodesian Ridgeback.

The Dutch did not use these dogs only to kill lions but also to hunt other game animals such wild pigs and Baboons.

Now let us talk about a Ridgeback’s appearence, when you look at your Ridgeback from the front, you will see a black snout, a black or a light brown nose and a dark or a light brown head. Ridgebacks have either light brown (to the yellow side) or dark brown eyes, so that depends. When you see it from the side, you will see a sleek and very agile body, coupled with well built shoulder and thigh muscles. Their sleek physique, helps them run 30 km without stopping along with a horse !  Their coat is very shiny, dense and very short, which makes it highly manageable. The skin under the coat can either be baby pink but mostly black. The color of the coat ranges from dark brown to light brown to woody. They have a strong, smooth and a very sleek tail, which is curved at the tip. They also have needle sharp teeth and can actually tear flesh if they wish too, when zarah bites, she literally pores holes in her prey’s skin. They make fabulous guard dogs.

When you see your Ridgeback from the back you shall see the most fascinating feature of the breed which helps it stand out and is actually it’s unique selling point, I am talking about the ridge of hair, growing in the opposite direction to the hair on the rest of it’s body. The ridge has two crowns on either sides (groups of hair shaped like a whirlpool) and usually resembles a needle or a dagger.

9588Rhodesian-Ridgebacks-Dog-Markings-400x300

Now let us discuss the temperament of these dogs, while seeing Zarah grow up I noticed, that she was not bothered about any other human’s opinion about her, other than mine. By this I realized that she is a one man dog. Zarah like all the other Ridgebacks is very loyal to her master and to her family (master’s family). They are very independent dogs and don’t like too much hovering around. Ridgebacks prefer to ignore strangers instead of challenging them, but zarah bites any stranger she sees, so by this I mean they can be highly unpredictable by nature. Apart from this she is very intelligent, loving and extremely naughty. Ridgebacks, like any other dogs, are very sensitive, just because they are strong willed and powerful, one should not subject them to harshness, as their tender hearts shatter at the slightest roughness. Mind you, by roughness I don’t mean rough play but constant scolding and beating. A warning to all, if you try hitting your Ridgeback you might get hurt yourself.

Like any other breed, Ridgebacks too suffer from hereditary diseases, the main one being thyroid, so proper care should be taken. Also, since they are addicted to exercising, one should see to it that their Ridgeback gets sufficient amount of exercise each day.

Maintaining a Ridgeback is not much of a hassle, since they are blessed with a highly manageable coat. You can take a wet towel scrub their bodies, first in the opposite direction, which takes all the dirt, oil, dry skin and loose hair off the coat and then give them a massage with your bare hands which provides a shine to their coat.

40594_110372405683897_8230035_n

As far as the food is concerned, my advice to you would be to give them home cooked food; I personally don’t trust dog food. Two of my dogs have lost their lives after being fed with dog food of a very reputed company. I would recommend home cooked food such as butter milk or chicken broth with boiled chicken pieces.

Ridgebacks can be trained, but one needs to be very patient with them, as I have mentioned earlier they have very tender hearts and are highly sensitive. Once they begin to obey your commands you should treat them with meaty chew sticks or chapatti or dog biscuits. DO NOT RAISE YOUR HAND ON YOUR DOG.

My Zarah, now 4 years old, has helped me understand this breed that originated from the wild. A tribute to our friendship.

My Dogs are my best friends and the most fabulous teachers ever (after my parents of course), because I sincerely feel, that school failed to teach me anything that could come handy in my day to day life, except how to make new friends and fight my own battles. But my Dogs have taught me a lot, from showing me how to give unconditional love, to becoming a faithful friend and the most important lesson, the lesson of loyalty.

While growing up like every other teenager, I too had my set of hurdles that I needed to overcome on my own. Even I found myself gripped by the strong hands of the monster called depression and unending sadness & temporary defeatism lured my tears out of their hiding place, every now and then, which is at least six out of the seven days of the week. But what stopped me from falling apart, was the tender love and support lent to me by my dear little friend Muffin (since I shared nothing with my parents).

Muffin was a Shih-Tzu Dog, a long coated dog with a Chinese origin. The name ‘Shih-Tzu’ literally means ‘Lion Dog’ in Chinese and the breed was christened thus, as they were bred to resemble the Lion, just how it is depicted in the traditional Chinese art. The breed is also known as the Tibetan Lion Dog, but whether the Shih-Tzu, traces its origin back to China or Tibet is debatable. The history of the breed adamantly states that it originated in China around 800 BC. Also its genetics are closely related to Wolves. The Dogs were treated as though they were a priceless treasure, by the Royalties of China. Maybe that is the reason behind the Chinese guarding them jealously and their reluctance and blunt refusal in selling them or trading them. Well, I seem to empathize with them, since the breed has an adorable charm and not to forget those very manipulative eyes.

As far as the behavior goes, well Muffin was a very prissy dog, The dog was so full of himself and so stubborn, that if by mistake our dog boy gave him ‘Vegetarian’ food (plain milk with the Indian bread) , Muffin would put mud into the bowl and keep nudging until it reaches the point where the dog boy would usually go and sit while the dogs had their food, and begin barking so loud till my mother got his food changed by adding some boiled egg or chicken pieces in it, only then would His Highness Muffin finish his meal *Phew*.

But generally the Shih-Tzu is an affectionate dog, very outgoing and highly alert. They are also very clean dogs and hate the presence of mud on their bodies. Muffin used to love his baths. If they are under trained, they may resort to biting and nipping if they get irritated in the presence of pokey strangers.

The Shih-Tzu is a long coated dog and needs constant care such as brushing the coat at least twice a day as it gets matted very fast and matted fur leads to the clotting of blood, clipping of nails as long nails may get stuck in the coat, it’s eyes are very sensitive too, and so the tuft of hair falling over their eyes protects them from getting damaged, it can be trimmed but not cut to a very short length. I needed to cut Muffin’s hair from around his paws and mouth area as getting food and muck off them can be quite a hassle. Also, they need a cool room to stay in.

Now coming back to the topic, Muffin was my best companion, like any other dog to its master. Sometimes I got really angry with him for littering in my room; some of us even raise our hands on our dogs. We do it under the pretense of scolding or training our dog in order to prevent it from dirtying our house the next time. But what we don’t realize is that, every time we hit our bud, we break its tender heart. You may find it difficult to understand, so let’s make it easy by going back in time and stopping at the moment when you first brought your bud home. For you it was just a dog, but for him you were its world; his master, his best friend, mother, father, sibling and everything else (mostly his nanny but never mind). Remember, the moment it felt hungry, it came to you, the moment it felt sleepy, it looked for your lap or your bed or may have expected you to take it to its bed and make it comfortable, at least my Muffin did so. Our dogs are dependent on us the moment they promise to be loyal to us , protect us and be on our side no matter what happens and so basic courtesy demands that we make a promise to them too, the promise of loving them, keeping them safe and most importantly keeping them away from any kind of pain. A dog is no less than a child so if we can be so cautious about not hurting our child’s feelings, then why do we forget that our innocent dogs have tender hearts too? Don’t go by the size of the dog, they all have tender hearts, believe me, a dog as huge as the English Mastiff, would stop eating its food on being yelled at by its master.

Now come back to the present, when you raise your hand on your bud, you let him down, you break his heart and crush his hopes, now don’t get all scared thinking it might not love you any more, dogs and all the other animals are born with hearts of gold, they would suffer your bad behavior but never stop loving you, because the word ‘Abandon’ does not exist in their dictionary. Also, don’t think I am encouraging you to hit your dog or take your dog’s love for granted, because if you do, it will only reflect your ruthless conscience. There are many other ways to train your dog without hitting it such as the paper roll training trick, wherein you roll a newspaper and hit it on the ground or your thigh (now don’t be a sissy, it doesn’t hurt!), while making the dog sniff the litter it is responsible for. Dogs are sensitive to noise and they often get irritated or a little scared every time they hear the newspaper’s noise. Once you’ve repeated this act twice or thrice (because dogs don’t get trained overnight, it requires hell amount of patience), the dog will start associating ‘litter inside the house’ with ‘irritating noise’ and eventually stop dirtying your house.

Our dogs are very attached to us, since our appreciation means the world to them, they are forever trying to impress us and our company is what they desire the most (second to their food of course). So when your dog dirties your house, clasp a leash to its collar and tie your dog in a corner away from you, make sure you keep its bed and bowl of water next to it. But before you do that you should make your dog sniff the litter, so it knows why it’s being punished. Mind you, it will take long for your dog to start associating ‘litter inside the house’ with being ‘away from the master’. It will eventually start abiding by your rules.

You should also try toilet training your pup by putting it on newspaper every time it gets restless so it knows where to relieve itself, cleaning the newspapers is more convenient. The younger they are, the faster they learn.

Patience is the key to a well-trained dog. So every time you lose your temper and patience while training your dog imagine how your child would feel on being slapped and if by chance you’re single then remember how you felt on being slapped.

All this I have learned from years of training dogs and through my best bud Muffin. He taught me, that the connections that exist between a master and his dog are all joined to a single key called ‘Love’

This is a tribute to my dead friend my Muffin. Where ever you are, your are missed. RIP.
