Dandruff is not only the most aesthetically pleasing thing in the world but it is also a sign that the skin of your pet has become stale. This is quite common among pets especially dogs as they eat dry – kibble which is low in moisture and also because they do not drink enough water which leads to constant dehydration and thus, they can readily become flaky and dry in their outer appearance. If pets develop any kind of medical problems such as infections, diabetes or allergies then often the skin is the first to signify a change in general health by becoming roughened and dry. If your pet, too, develops a poor hair-coat or a dry skin then you must consider the following possibilities and go to your veterinarian :-

  •  Lusterless coats or dry skin might indicate an improper balance or deficiency of certain essential fatty acids in the pet’s diet. Pet foods are particularly low in certain fatty acids which are beneficial. Fatty acids are relatively dainty and prone to breakdown by improper storage or over – cooking of dry food. If your pet is following the fat – restricted diet then they might be at increased risk of deficiency.
  •  Irritated or dry skin might be an antagonistic reaction to the foods which contain additives, preservatives and artificial dyes. Food allergy to some specific ingredients can also cause flaky or dry skin.
  •  Mites, flea allergy, yeast ring worms, mange and other bacterial skin infections can often cause skin redness, itchiness, dry – skin and also hair loss.
  •  Endocrine problems such as diabetes, cushing syndrome, hypo or hyper thyroid ism etc, hormonal problems, skin cancer and immune problems are some of the serious causes the skin flakiness.
There can be many causes of dry skin and various tests might need to be performed if you want to find an exact precise diagnosis. Usually, a skin scrape with the microscopic examination is the first step at the office of your veterinarian. Occasionally allergy testing, dandruff or hair culture, blood test or biopsy will have to be performed.

WHAT KIND OF DOGS GET DANDRUFF?

TREATMENT OF DANDRUFF :-

1. PETS ARE WHAT THEY EAT :-

images

As i already said that our adorable pets need some certain amount of fat in their diet, but do remember to provide good type of fat, not bacon, in order to keep their skin supple and nice, and fur shiny. You can either switch their diet to a holistic, high quality food or you can also supplement oils in their diet, specifically designed for pets. It is very important for our pet to drink plenty of water in order to stay healthy and hydrated. Our body is of 70% water and yes, our pets, too, are no different. Pets which are in continual state of the dehydration are more likely to develop symptoms of kidney disease and many more other diseases. So, If your adorable pet does not drink sufficient water then you can add water in his food. You can also include canned food in the diet of your pet as it provides essential water supplementation and is wonderful for organ hydration.

2. BATHING :-

3098355598_9ffaa35131_z2

Bathing your dog regularly, can help to wash away dandruff peels, however redundant  bathing can make the situation only  worsen. So you can give bath to your dog once in a month during winter and Twice or thrice a month during summer season. When you are planing to give bath to your pet then it is very important to use the right type of shampoo. And no, i am not taking about the bottle of shampoo in your shower which YOU use, as that is not for your pet. There are many shampoos available in the market which are specifically designed for your pets and can help you in getting rid of dandruff. If your pet is showing even a small sign of having dandruff then you must use dandruff shampoo to bath him. However, if the problem persists even after applying of dandruff then it is advised that you should seek some professional help bin vet.
You’ll know definitely  the right time when is to go out and buy dandruff shampoo for your pet if you begin to see dead skin or white flakes shedding from your dog’s fur.

3. IMPORTANCE OF GROOMING :-

6bfdfeb1496947c5ab75458fffbf06a5

It is another way of keeping your pet dandruff – free. Brushing your endearing pet not only makes your pet feel nice and keep his fur shiny, burr – free and and smooth but it also helps in distributing the natural oils of your pet’s coat and also massage his skin. However you should choose your brush carefully as if its too soft then it will not work whereas if the brush is too stiff then it will annoy rather than helping. Pet owners must determine the amount of brushing needed as it can exfoliate the skin of your pet. Usually cats generally self – groom whereas long – haired cats might need assistance. Also, double coated fur may trap the dead skin underneath it so you must take extra -care to brush your pets.

4. SUPPLEMENTS :-

images

Fatty acids supplements are important with skin conditions in all pets. Fatty acids help in eliminating the inflammation within the irritated skin and thus, help in improving skin suppleness and moisture, regardless of underlying problem. Most of the people are well known with the fatty acids like omega 3 which are commonly found in fish oils.

5. SEE A VET :-

Veterinarian Examining Dog

If you take your pet to a veterinarian then he will know exactly what to do in treating your little fluffy friend.  They may advice you to do the therapies, additionally, in treating dry skin, however the above methods for treating dry skin is more economic – free.

And last but not the least, do not forget to spend more valuable time with your pet so that he might not feel alone, so good luck!

Congratulations, so you have finally decided to get a crayfish as a pet! This is really great!  They are definitely one of the most lovable pets and fun to watch, but you need to know more about it than just propelling it in the tank.  They make excellent pets, also known as – crawdads, mud bags and  craw fish.  Taking care of them is quite easy and this is the reason which makes them one of the most prominent pets.  Read further in order to know how to take care of them.

1.  GET YOUR CRAYFISH :-

91n5y6vEhbL._SX425_

You can easily buy a crayfish from any pet store or a tropical fish store. If you want to buy a red – crayfish then it can cost you one to three dollars while a blue colored crayfish can even cost more than twenty dollars as they’re more high – end crayfish. If you want to have more options then you can also go through some websites in order to find more exotic and exceptional  species, although they can cost you a 100 dollars.

2. HOUSING :-

IMG_4491

They are considered as one of the least demanding pets which makes them convenient for adults as well as children. They need only easy and simple living conditions with air plumps and filters as compared to other semi – aquatic and aquatic or marine pets. However, if you want, then you can add extra  elements in the tank.  Generally, they require a tank which has a temperature of  21 -24 ° Celsius with a pH level of 7.0, which is neutral. A crayfish, usually, crave for at least six to eleven Gallons of water.

Also, it is not advisable to keep more than one crayfish in the same tank but if you do this, then you have to make sure there is sufficient place for both the craw-fishes in the tank. Also, you have to be sure that both of the crayfishes are of same variety or breed, else ways, they could kill each other.  You should change water regularly,  you should do this at least twice a week as they have lots of   bio loads. So, you will have to make sure to have a dechlorinator when changing water.

3. MAKE TANK COMFORTABLE FOR YOUR CRAYFISH :-

43V3Gmf

You should create a good environment in the tank as they love to go into hiding, playing and hovel, and in order to make them comfortable. You can add things like plants, rocks, tipped over castle and PVC pipes. They love to crawl on the plants so you could buy fake plants, else ways, they will eat the real plants sooner.  In order to make them feel truly safe, you can get gerbil pipes, any three – side containers or hollowed out rocks.  Also, you  need to know that they are more comfortable when its dark so you can minimize the light -exposure which the tank gets.

4. KEEP YOUR CRAYFISH FROM ESCAPING THEIR TANK :-

 021711_crayfish_gallery_full_export

They love to examine new region and are absolutely good at running away. So you will have to make sure to have protected openings in the filter. You can use rubber bands,  aluminium foil and tape in order to confine the opening of the filter from outside. If your crayfish escapes then, without water, it will dehydrate and thus, die, in just a couple of hours. So it is very important to be careful about this.  So, if you’ve  captured an escaping crayfish then you should make sure not to put them back directly into water as its gills need some time to get   acclimated with water again, and you really do not want it to drown. You should just place it into a bucket which should have enough water in order to cover it fully. Now, you can add a rock in bucket in order to make it feel less assailable. After a full day, you can take the crayfish and hold it onto the surface of water, if he do well then you can put them back in the tank.

5.  FEEDING :-

Elvis

Crayfishes are omnivorous scroungers which feeds primarily on organic detritus, algae and plants.  They eat shrimp pellets too, so you can plunk down some of them to its hiding place so that they can eat them.  In vegetables, they can eat shelled peas, cabbage leaves, romaine lettuce etc.  You can also fill them in with  frosted foods like brine shrimp, blood worms, daphnia and frozen fishes. You can  feed them cooked chicken as a treat, sometimes but not regularly.

You should fed them a small amount of foods daily, if you throw an excessive amount of food, erringly, then you must abolish the excess food, right away.  If your water living friend stays soft for a longer period of time, that is, more than a day after decorticating then this could mean that the hardness or pH level of water in the tank is too low or your pet is not getting sufficient amount of calcium in its diet.

6.  DISEASES :-

Pet-crayfish-(Clippy-II)-in-freshwater-aquarium-with-apple-snail

It is not a good idea to keep crayfishes from the different continents as there is a higher risk of spreading disease if they are kept in the same tank. Particularly, one disease poses a quite threat which is known as Crayfish Plaque and this carried by the North -American species of craw fish. Allegedly, American crayfishes have derived to indulge this fungus without any difficulty. But, it is still baleful to other types of crayfish which include crayfishes from Eurasia and Australia.  White Spot disease is another one which can admonish other crayfishes. It affects the shrimps but it might be transferable to other crayfish if you fed them with the raw food made from the effected shrimp.  If you determine to keep more than one species of crayfish in the same tank then you should make sure to keep them separate for at least one month before putting them in one aquarium. Crayfish diseases are very difficult to identify and also even more difficult to cure the disease.

” My dog is in charge” this is the most problem that most of the dog owners are suffering from. He decides when to play and for how much time, when you go for walk and where, he even interrupts when talk on phone and charges into the whole environment ahead of you. Now, guess who is it? What? no no, he is not from your family member or co – worker, Well he is your dog,  When you invite a new dog in your home then teach him that you’re the leader, otherwise he will take this responsibility.

WHAT IS PACK BEHAVIOUR?

GR-DALMATIAN-RECORD012.jpg

before going further, you need to know the answer of this question. Dogs love their families just like humans, but these families are known as packs for dogs.   Dogs needs to fit into a pack which is inherent in them. They want to know the safety of place and what to expect from it. And most of the dogs do not want to be an alpha, they want someone else to take this responsibility by giving others orders and make the decisions.  If you let your dog to be an alpha then you are at his mercy and he might be a benevolent king as a leader. When you bring your dog in your home then you are his family, ”pack”. Many dogs fit easily in their families and they do whatever they are told by the leader of ”pack” whereas other dogs do not fit in easily as some of them are born natural leaders and will always challenge their human alpha.  Alpha dogs seems to be a really good pet as they are confident, smarter, and loving but if someone  makes him to do which he does not want to do then this lovable dog will growl, and can even hurt someone and no one will find the answer of ”why”? In a real dog pack, No one questions the alpha dog and no one gives him orders as the pack’s members respects him but in the human family, this kind of behavior is dangerous and unacceptable.

SIGNS THAT YOUR DOG IS TRYING OUT FOR THE JOB OF BOSS

goa-beach-dogs_cutie

  • Jumping up on you.
  • Grabs food from your hand.
  • Barks at you.
  • steals food from the table.
  • jumping up on the couch.
  • Pushes you down.
  • Bites your clothes.
  • Growls when eating.

If your dog is doing the things which are mentioned above then its time for you to become the leader.

HOW TO BE THE LEADER?

dogs and their humans

Becoming the leader or boss of your dog does not mean you’ll be bossy or pushy. It means that you’ll make rules and your dog has to follow them. Here some tips from which your dog will understand who is the leader that is YOU :-

1.  Always praise your dog as if you own it :- Firmly put your hands on your dog, hug him, and then pat him so that the hand of yours get warm from contact. Don’t praise him in a bashful way.

2. Give punishment fairly and quickly then forgive :-  Do not hold antipathy, when you put hands on dog, do it with authority and confidence. Hands on doesn’t mean hitting but it might mean a  leash correction, assist into sit or down, a collar shake. Just do it fast with authority. Now, when you have made your dog to do exactly what you want then give him a hug, yes, that is alpha.

3. Be benevolent, but tough :- If you want the leader of your pack then you must act like a top dog. You should be tough but at the same time loving also.  You should always be fair and never get angry. Dogs can easily understand what is wrong and what’s not.

4.  Give permission :-  You can give him permission as long as you are ok with it.  But it doesn’t mean that you say ok if you see him stealing a plate of cookies.  This means that you say ok if he is about to get a car ride with you, eat food from his bowl, go out with you for walk. It means that you will teach your dog to look at you for your permission and approval of making decisions on his own. You should remember that if dog will behave better then he can have more fun and freedom.

5. Deny permission :-  Monitor the behaviour of your dog. Teach him manners and even if you do like him to walk on the couch or coffee table, he should not behave like this in other homes of people. When you take him out to lake then he should definitely wait for your permission if he wants to swim.

6  Be a model to your dog :-  Remember that the alpha of the pack behaves with surety, dignity, authority, confidence and intelligence. This will help your canine friend to be tranquil.

Some pet owners are extra ordinarily dedicated and attached to their loving animal companions, so obviously when their best friends die, they will be grief – stricken and sometimes demolished. Towards this attitude of pet owners, other people often made fun of them by saying that ” How can you cry over a pet?”  But this have seriously changed in the last forty years. However people’s attitude towards those people may change but the misconceptions about pet still exists which are as follows :-

1. Pet loss is insignificant when compared to the loss of human life. To mourn the loss of a pet devalues the importance of human relationships : -

tr

This is so wrong. People are capable of caring and loving both animals and humans and when they live day – night with ONE person, he’ll get attached with it, doesn’t matter if he is a human or animal.  The loss of a lovable animal can be equally emotionally significant or even more than a human. You cannot forget the time you have spend with your beloved pet.

2. It is best to replace the lost pet as quickly as possible. This will ease the pain of loss :-

photo-pet-loss-support

Animal companions can’t be replaced, i mean seriously, how can someone even think about this? If your any friend dies, can you stop mourning by replacing him to other friend? No, you can’t.  All of them different, separate individuals with unique personalities, People will need to be emotionally ready to adopt another pet before they can adopt a new animal into their family and hearts. Some people try to avoid the process of mourning  by getting a ”replacement pet” which is not god for pets and people.

3. It is best to mourn alone :-

pet-loss

The myth is that its best to mourn alone, as this is the way of being independent and strong and burden other people with your problems. And also people thinks that everyone will make fun of them if they mourned over a pet.  The truth is, it  really takes  courage to reach out to other people and mourners can get benefit by caring, empathy and understanding of other supportive people.  But make sure to be selective about the person to whom you turn for help as some people do not take the pet loss seriously.

4. It is selfish to euthanize your pet :-

j

No, not at all. In fact, it is a humane and compassionate way to end quality of a life or intense suffering of your beloved animal. And believe me, it will be very selfish if you prolong the suffering of an injured or seriously ill animal. Just ask yourself – Whose best interests and needs are being served – owner who is being selfish here or that animal who is suffering ?

5. The best way to protect yourself from the pain of pet loss is to not get another pet :-

ll

Keeping you away from getting an other animal companion is a very high price in order to insure yourself against experiencing another painful loss of a pet.  But once you are emotionally ready for getting a new pet, you can adopt one, however make sure not to buy a pet which looks exactly same as the previous one as this will only remind you of your loss.

6. Pets don’t mourn for other pets :-

r

This is not true as some animals can create a strong bond to other animals in the household and if they dies, they will show same signs of mourning as people do such as loss of appetite, acting depressed and ”searching” for that loved one.

7. It is best to protect children from the upsetting truth of what has happened to their pet :-

petloss9-e1357971668422

Some caretakers/parents think that they are doing right by not telling the truth to their children that their pet has died. In order to cover up this story, they make a story that the pet ran away or they gave their pet away.  But what the parents do not realize in doing so, through their deceits and lies, they’re undermining the trust, which children has in them and it will cause much more pain in the long run , for example, some children will only blame themselves if the pet has ”run away”.

8. Pet loss is something you should be able to “get over” on your own. There is no need for someone to see a professional pet loss counselor in order to deal with this :-

pet-loss-quotesloss-of-pet-quotes-gswpaow1

Some people have self – interested need for you to get over your pet as soon as possible, they feel uncomfortable with your melancholy. If you broke a leg then you’d go to a doctor in order to get some help so why you would not see a human – animal bond specialist to get some help for your broken heart?   This will be seen as an investment  for your mental health and also peace of mind.

During fireworks, do you constantly worry about your lovable pets? Are you afraid that if you leave your pet alone in the home and you would find your pet unhappy after coming back to home, or even worse, dead because of too much of loud noises? During fireworks, you cannot ask for a peaceful firework but yes, you can do the best by comforting your pet. Here i am telling you some ways by which you can keep your pet safe during fireworks,

1.  KNOW WHEN FIREWORKS WILL HAPPEN AND HOW THEY WILL IMPACT YOUR HOME :-

images

If you want to find out when fireworks will happen then contact municipality in your locality.  Then mark that date on your calender so that you won’t forget and to know when you have to care for your pet. If you think that fireworks will also be heard at your house then take all the precautions.  You must check if your pet’s micro chips and ID tags are in date as it will be much easier to find him if he runs away during fireworks. Fireworks can upset pet by noise, flashing lights and smell of sulfur.

2.  PREPARE YOUR DOG :-

shutterstock_39737818

You must prepare your dog before fireworks so he won’t be that scared. You can prepare him for dealing with noise by exposing your pet to other sounds. Desensitization of noises will prevent a fear of loud noises. You can use a CD which sounds scary before the event of firework.

3. PREPARE YOUR HOUSE :-

During fireworks, your house becomes the safety z9ones for your pets so its important to prepare it as well. Keep some lights on as it will help to calm your pet and will make him feel more comfortable and secure instead of being in a closed dark room. Also, dampen the noise by closing the curtains in your room,  if your pet is in a cage then cover the cage with a thick blanket but make sure that it is breathable enough, otherwise, your pet will feel suffocation, also this will helps those lights flashing on your pet.  In order to drown out the fireworks’ noise, you can plan to use some familiar sounds such as turning the TV, music from a stereo are the familiar sounds which can actually soothe your pet.

4. PREPARE YOURSELF :-

man-dogs-best-friend

Sometimes, we can transfer some of our angst to pets and upset them, when we want to ease the pain of our pet.  If you have prepared everything properly then you don’t need to worry and feel upset as you can be sure about the safety of your pet.  Remember that the frantic and startled reactions of your pet are often the main source of your tension but you should be ready for their reactions as it will help you to keep calm at that time.

5. CONFINE YOUR PET :-

Place your pet into a chosen room, just half an hour before the fireworks set off.  If you are concerned about not finding your pet before the fireworks then you can consider finding him several hours earlier as cats are not always easy to find.  If you have a dog and he needs to be walked then take him for a walk before fireworks set off. If you have ha caged pet then place him into a comfortable and secure room .

6. PROVIDE FOOD AND HYDRATION :-

o

When you leave your pet in a confine place then make sure to leave enough food and water as well. Most of the pets will feel frantic and uneasy so if he has access to water then it’ll calm him and also food supplied to him will make him feel like it is just another normal day.

6. KEEP AN EYE ON YOUR PET :-

shutterstock_49980124

During fireworks, you should keep an eye on your pet, and if possible stay with him. You can comfort him by talking, you should be friendly with him but do not fuss over her too much as this can increase his anxiety, if it is not possible to stay with him then the previous steps will definitely ensure that your lovable pet is appropriately cared for.  You can also allow your pet to somewhere else in the room as it is their way of coping with something, you should not drag him back into that safe place as it will increase the level of their anxiety.

7.  CHECK ON YOUR PET AFTER FIREWORKS :-

Frightened_Kitten1

Remove all the protection if you are sure that the fireworks are over.  You should let him to free run in your house in order to check how he behaves. Check the signs of stress in your pet :-

  • For cats, stress signs include soiling the house, running away, refusing to eat and hiding away.
  • For dogs,  stress signs include running away, barking a lot, soiling the house, cowering, hiding, whimpering, shaking, panting and refusing to eat.

If your pet is stressed then you must keep him indoors for sometime, walk your dog after fireworks  but do not let him off his harness, and make sure to stay with him whole time.

So, you are going to buy a chameleon but not sure, how to care of them? Well, they make great pets but if you want them to stay healthy and happy then you’ll need to set some things up. Read on to find out what kind of chameleon you should get and the requirements of caring for them.

1. PICK THE SPECIES OF CHAMELEON YOU WANT TO GET :-

index

If you want to get chameleon who are easier to take care of, then you can get Jackson’s, Panther or Veiled chameleons. Most of the chameleons which are on the sale are usually three to eight weeks old.  Different chameleons have different personalities, some like to interact with people while some not. So, if you want to know whether your chameleon likes people, watch him closely while he is being fed in the pet store.

2. SET UP AND MAINTAIN THE CAGE :-

chameleon_1

Remember that chameleons which are juvenile can still grow quite a bit so make sure to buy a cage which is twice the size of your chameleon.  When you bring chameleon in your home, put him into a cage of tall glass with mesh ventilation. You can also put some things in the cage in order to make your chameleon comfortable such as fake plants, real plants, proper lightning and moisture, climbing limbs etc.

3. FEEDING :-

0

The most common food for chameleons is crickets which you can buy from any pet store. Even if there is no pet store in your locality then you can always order them online. You should avoid feeding them wasps and bees.  If you have a baby chameleon then you will need need to feed a smaller breed of crickets, they can also survive off of fruit flies. You have probably see the term gut – loaded crickets which actually mean that the crickets have been fed a very nutritious diet which will help the lizards to get all the required nutrients. You might have also see the term calcium – busted crickets which will help your chameleon to get the required calcium. Chameleons also enjoy insects like meal worms, wax worms, flies,  super worms, grasshoppers and moths.

4. GIVE WATER TO YOUR CHAMELEON :-

There are different ways to give water to your chameleon. If you see him licking any shiny objects, then he is doing is because he feels thirsty and looking for dew for licking.   You can spray on the side of the tank or on leaves by a spray bottle so that your chameleon can lick. You can also buy a waterfall for your chameleon from any pet store which might be a little expensive but is nice. Some people have even teach their chameleons to drink water from a bottle but this will take a lot of time.

5. INTERACT WITH YOUR CHAMELEON :-

Interacting with your chameleon is not that needed but can be a real fun.  As I said above that each of the chameleons have different personalities and some likes to be handled by others while some not. The best way to interact with your chameleon is feeding him by your hands as he will not be aggressive towards you. You might also find that he loves to be taken outside for basking in the sun. If you will take him outside then this is another way for getting him UV – A and  UV – B which any healthy chameleon needs. They not only love basking in the sun but also it keeps them healthy.

6. KEEP YOUR ENCLOSURE CLEAN :-

ju

Remove all the dead things from the bottom of the cage, otherwise bacterias and parasites will come. Before doing so, remove your chameleon to some other safe place so that he will not get disturbed. You can create a cleaning solution with a bit of dish soap and water. Then spray it on the floors, walls and the things under it like fake plants but do not spray it on real plants, you can use a paper towel in order to clean and dry them off. Now mist the enclosure and dry it off again with a clean paper towel. You should also change the material on the floor regularly in order to remove shed skin, dead bugs, fecal matter, fungus or mold etc.

7. CHAMELEONS ARE SOLITARY :-

images

You should remember that chameleons are solitary and they do not like other chameleons, so if you think that keeping two chameleons will be a good idea as they will keep each other company then you are absolutely wrong. Introducing two of them is definitely not a good idea as they will fight with each other so do not even think about it.  They aren’t sociable at all, only when they are babies, they will feel comfortable with other chameleons but once they grow a year older, they should be separated from each other.

Grooming is very important part for horses not only because it makes their coat clean and elegant and adds beauty yo horse’s appearance but also it helps to create healthy bonding between you and your dog. Grooming should be done regularly if you want to keep your horse’s skin and coat healthy. They respond very positively to horses so you won’t need to struggle like in the case of cats and dogs.

1. SECURE YOUR HORSE :-

Some horses are well – trained to stand till while grooming, however many horses will want to walk away from you after a  certain time  so you should keep them in a particular place by tying a lead rope. If you are tying your horse to a post or a ring then you should always use a quick – release knot as if something petrifies your house, then they might try to fall or run, then a regular knot can cause them to break their neck and this is very dangerous to them. However you should also make sure that the knot is not too loose otherwise, they can escape.

2. PICK YOUR HORSE’S HOOVES :-

Run your hand below his leg and try to squeeze his fetlock in order to pick up his foot.  If he does not lift up his foot then bend towards his shoulder and lift him off from the ground.  You can start at the foot’s heel by using a hoof pick and then pick forward towards toe , carefully remove all dirt, rocks and other irrelevant objects. Also make sure to clean grooves on any side of the part frog, ( frog is a V – shaped flabby part of the hoof ) this part is very sensitive so you should be careful while picking it even if you have to hit it real hard. If you pick up the foot first, then you’re more likely to notice the feebleness before you even start grooming.

3.  USE A CURRY COMB TO REMOVE LOOSE HAIR FROM THE HORSE :-

using-curry-comb

Rubber curry combs are especially built to loosen up mud, dirt and other things which usually  caught in the coat of your horse.  You should always use this, before brushing if you want best results and also wants your horse to be well – maintained.  Use the curry comb in small, vigorous circular motions over the muscles of your horse, you should avoid the bony areas like spine, legs and face.  This curry comb should be patted in a circular motion in the opposite direction of hair – growth.  This will pull up dirt and loose hairs.

4. USE A DANDY BRUSH :-

images

A dandy brush which is also called as a hard brush is a hard – bristled brush used to take off  hair and dirt brought out by curry comb.  You should use this brush in a short straight in a flicker manner in order to allow the bristles to get the way to run into the coat and wipe out all the dirt.  You can start working out by this brush from his neck and then work towards his tail. Run the brush down the legs of your horse in order to remove dirt, do not brush him too hard, otherwise, it might injured him. Don’t  use this on his face, ears, mane, belly, tail as it can make them to feel discomfort and also can make him frighten.

5. CLEAN UP WITH A SOFT BRUSH :-

hqdefault

As its name suggest that this brush is quite soft and can be used on all of the areas of horse because of its texture, however be careful to use it on the face. The soft brush will remove the remaining surface hair and dust,  You can finish the grooming of your horse by brushing down his whole body, which also includes sensitive areas like belly and face.  Although if you want to use separate brush on his face then you can use a face brush, they’re designed especially for horse’s face in order to clean it.

6. CLEAN THE HORSE’S FACE :-

cloth

Take a wash cloth or wet sponge and swab your horse’s nose nose and eyes. You should use a different wash cloth/wet sponge for cleaning its dock (under the tail ) as these areas are dirt, moist and built up of mucus, hence, it needs to be cleaned out. Remember always to be gentle while doing this as these areas are quite sensitive.

7. BRUSH OUT THE MANE AND TAIL :-

tailcomb

Use a wide – bristled brush or mane comb in order to get tangles out of the tail and mane.  You can use your fingers to abstract hairs which is caught in large tangles before you even start.   Hold the  large section of mane in your one hand and then brush it out with other. Now, continue this by taking the small pieces from side until you’ve brushed the whole tail.

There are many myths and misconceptions about animals in shelters which prevent people from adopting them.  Before going to the breeder or pet store, you should definitely give a chance to shelter. Sometimes, i get really surprised about people saying how shelter dogs are not good to adopt  Now i am going to tell you top five myths about shelter dogs which will help you to understand the reality :-

1. ALL OF THE PETS IN ANIMAL SHELTERS HAVE SOMETHING WRONG WITH THEM :-

541190_273369872744276_272246352_n

So, this myths comes from the very common misunderstandings about how how dogs end up in shelters in the first place.  People think that they end up in shelters because they were seized in public raids, they were abandoned or they they were aggressive, so they will be more likely to run away or they will have spontaneous feelings because of how they treated before.  But in reality,  one of the main reason that they end up in shelters is because they were just given up by their respective owners and seriously, this has nothing to do with the dogs’ behavior. A lot of owners gives up their pet because they cannot afford them anymore or maybe because an opportunity forced them to move into another place where dogs aren’t allowed.  Sometimes, people get bored with their dogs so this is also the reason of dogs ending up in shelter. Also, when expectations and reality do not meet, a dog end up in shelter, i mean, when that adorable  little  puppy grew into an energetic, large living in an small apartment or that lap adorable puppy become so dominant or uncontrollable as its adorableness earned nothing but only   affection and not enough training.

You need to understand that most of the dogs have really nothing to do with behavior or personality of the dog, however they might have some minor behavioral issues but it can be treated with proper training, care and affection. The only thing which is very dog in them is that they live in a shelter but not with loving families.

2. YOU WILL NEVER KNOW THEIR HISTORY :-

sad-scared-dog-at-dog-pound

However this one is true but it is not that bad as a shelter dog will never know their own history especially not when you brought him to a home with a loving family. Dogs do not live in past and we should not either.  At some shelters,  you might get some information about them but that is not a good thing as, again, humans like to live in past. You should adopt a dog that has been abused by children, rescued from a dog – fighting ring, thrown out of a car by owners, or whatever dreadful situation you can imagine.  If you will constantly dwell on dog’s part then it might be a problem, remember that dogs can forget all  about it once it is not happening again and then you can actually help them to forget by not triggering anything which will resemble that trauma.

3. PUREBREDS ARE IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND AT ANIMAL SHELTERS :-

u

Well you can find purebred dogs in shelters however it might be difficult to find but not impossible.   According to a report, 25 % of animals are purebred in rescue groups or shelters.

4. SHELTER PETS ARE SICKLY :-

images

Shelter pets are not invincible when it comes to sickness but to be honest, but neither are pets bought from breeders or pet stores .  Shelters can’t guarantee  the long term health of an animal nor can pet stores.  But most of the animals in shelters are quite healthy  and have been already vaccinated. Also, they are checked regularly by veterinarians. Even if some animals have any medical problems then the shelter will definitely tell you about them.

5. THEY ARE TOO OLD :-

Myth-Shelter-Dogs-Good-Reason

Adopting a puppy may be a good idea as you will get to raise puppy to adulthood, however, often people focus on the cute part only and they usually forget the reality behind raising a puppy. It can be as difficult and intense as raising a child. However, it only takes a year or two, to raise a puppy as compared to eighteen years for children but that a year or two will very difficult, they will chew up things and peed on it,  showing their energy by running in your house, training him etc.  If you do not have much time to spend on training then adopting a dog of one or two years will be ideal.  Usually, they come with useful features already installed – they know some tricks, housebroken, they are used to people, even if they have any behavioral issues, you can fix them easily.  Senior dogs who are 7 years of age or above, they can be an ideal pet for old people  and also who do not want to commit up to fifteen years but still wanting a companion.

So does your dog shiver a lot when you go outside? Most of the dogs feel cold as much as their owners, during the time of winter season especially when they are not used to the cold, or if they do not have specific traits of cold.  Keeping your dog during the time of winter is very important in order to maintain their health. So here are some tips to care for your dog during winter.

1. UNDERSTAND YOUR BREED’S PARTICULAR SUSCEPTIBILITY :-

images

Some dogs are more likely to be cold as compared to other dogs whereas some breeds of dog respond extremely well to the winters. Dogs which do great in cold includes Siberian Huskies, Chow Chows and Alaskan Malamutes. Dogs which find it harder include toy dogs,  Greyhounds, Dobermans, hairless or low hair dogs. Any excessively clipped or shaven dog will also fall into this category as the thick winter coat is  insulation of a dog.

2. ENSURING ADEQUATE SHELTER :-

During winter, provide adequate shelter to your dog. It will be good if your canine friend can stay indoors during the whole winter season, but going outside only for answering nature’s call and exercising. This will make sure that your dog will not get cold when you are asleep or out.  You should not leave young puppies outside because they do not have ability to keep themselves warm like older dogs. However, if you have an outside dog then make sure that if he has access to his shelter and also bedding.  You can prove a fresh straw as it is an appropriate layer of insulation, against the outside shelter’s cold ground however be sure to regularly change it. An outside dog must have a insulation, sloped roof and heating, especially if you are living in a very cold climate locations.  If cold becomes exceptionally cold then take your dog  inside your house.  You should also construct an insulated house around the crate of the dog.

4. WARMING THINGS UP :-

download

Ensure that the bedding is warm and well – placed as bedding plays an important part in order to keep your dog warm throughout the winter. You can place his bed up off the floor if  he sleeps on the ground. A custom made bed with blankets, cushioned insert and some old clothing will make a warm bed.  Also, you can use canine clothing options for particular dogs and situations. This can really help your friend to stay warm in winter especially for toy or small dogs, old or sick dogs, and dogs without hair.  If dog feels cold then their key sign is just like humans, that is, shivering. You can purchase or make dog jackets, sweaters or blankets.

5. GROOM YOUR DOG :-

Dog taking a bath

Well, it is important to groom your dog in winter also, knotted hair will be less effective in order to keep out the cold rain and snow and also will not insulate the dog. Avoid shaving, cutting or trimming your dog;s hair as his coat is the source through which they can keep themselves warm.  You can bathe him indoors and before letting him to go outside, make sure that he is completely dried out. Give him bathe with lukewarm water and dry him as soon as possible. If possible, give him less bathe or no bathe in one week. You should keep the hair around your dog’s paws trimmed as this will help in preventing snow and ice balling up between the foot pads.

6. AVOID OVERFEEDING YOUR DOG :-

feeding-dog-298x300

Well, it is quite important to eat regularly during the time of colder months so that he can keep up with warmth and energy. If you have an indoor dog then you won’t have to increase any amount of food, by doing so, your dog can become overweight.  More food  is only acceptable for outdoor dogs and also who are extremely active during the time of winter season. You can talk to your vet about the particular energy needs of your dog.

7. TAKE SHORTER WALKS WHEN THE WEATHER IS SEVERELY COLD :-

88013988-cold-weather-pet-tips-632x475

Do not try to take your dog on walk, on the same distance as in the warmth weather. A shorter walk can still be achieved by doing enough exercise with relief breaks and it will not cause both of you ( you and your dog ) to become too cold. If you have an indoor dog, then keep making him to exercise , you can play indoor games with him like fetch, hiding toys, tug of war and if possible, you can let him to run inside your house. Remember that to keep your dog always on leash if you are walking during winter as if something happens such as the sudden appearance of an ice plow, if he rushes out to an ice lake and falls into it or snowstorm then you will not be able to retrieve your falling dog.
