Over the years, while we or our kids watched their favorite shows and cartoons, there were always those animated characters in various shows who resembled some real life person we knew or related with. Though they were our heroes, their lives were insignificant without their amazing pets who continue to influence our lives even now and we relate our pet dogs with them. We try and find those characteristics in our dogs to be able to cherish those cartoon days. Some of the loved and favorite cartoon dogs are:

PLUTO

Pluto-Mickey

Our Mickey’s pet, the short haired, golden colored dog was known for his facial expressions and cheerful nature. Even mickey could not stay mad at him for long. Pluto is very well trained and always knows how to escape tricky situations like his master. He has a childlike nature and hates cats to the core. He always does good in the end letting good win over evil and while some of his behavior may be interpreted as stupidity, Pluto is a very smart dog. He gets blamed for things he has not done in the house but always forgiven by his generous master. Pluto also falls in love easily and does anything to win the heart of lady love.

SNOOPY

Baby-Snoopy

Snoopy from peanuts has a bittersweet personality with a strong character. Anything that he does works out whether he is a disaster, hero, winner or loser. During troubled times he can escape by retreating into fantasy. He enjoys a rich and fantasy life. He has the uncanny ability of disappearing very fast and also dislikes cats and squeezing sound of balloons. A dog which is genuinely happy, loves to be lazy and sleep a lot. He does not like being any common dog.

ASTRO

Dogs-astro

This dog from the space age from The Jetsons can talk that sounds like barks and growls.  All he wanted to do was sleep or eat. He showed his intelligence and proved a robotic canine of no use and stayed with the family. The Great Dane who wears a green collar is a totally family dog and generations advanced.

SCOOBY DOO

Scoobydoo

He was the protagonist in the famous series Scooby Doo and was known for his heroism and extreme loyalty. He is known for being extremely ticklish and also being courageous ultimately. He is brown in color and has four toes on each of his food. Collar has his initials “SD” and he is also different than most dogs as he has only one pad on each of his foot sole. He finds good uses of his tail and has opposite thumbs. He had varied love interests in different episodes. He loves eating loads and solving mysteries.

 SCRAPPY DOO

Scrappydoo

Most famous of all Scooby Doo’s relatives, Scrappy Doo was known for his “puppy powerrrrr”. He was braver than his uncle in many instances and was the cute little puppy we all adored. Even his unpopularity in the later years does not erase the sweet memories we have of the amazing pup. He was headstrong and always looked forward to face-off with his enemies. Pointed and slightly bent ears are too visible and he idolized Scooby Doo. Always high on energy despite being the little one made him create a place in all our hearts.

SNOWY

snowy

Tintin and snowy were inseparable in all their shows. The white fox terrier had a very sharp mind and solved mysteries like a pro. Faithful dog who always comes to rescue for his master, Snowy is more than just the cute dog that makes you go awww. A fighter, intelligent and brave Snowy loves his sleep and food. Given a choice between food and saving his master, he hesitates little before saving the master. He is extremely scared of spiders. He is always alert and lively. This is one dog who will always be remembered for his adventures.

LADY AND THE TRAMP

lady-tramp-two

These two top the chart of lover dogs. It is a proof that love exists across all breeds and companionship is important. The cocker spaniel from a rich family and a stray fall in love and make their story a success. After a lot of difficulties they get to be together and raise a litter of their own while tramp also finds a place in the family. Though the story resembles that of a Bollywood movie, it touches your heart to understand the language of the dogs and the power of love. The story also highlights the plight of a stray dog.

DOLLAR

dollar

Identical to a Dalmatian, Richie Rich’s dog Dollar was from a very rich family with a gold collar. His safety would surely be a concern for its owners if he had to move out in the open. He enjoyed all the perks of staying in a super-rich family and was faithful and loyal to his master.

While these are just some of the famous cartoon dog characters, there have been many adapted on the screen and each one of us swear by our favorite dog. Your pet is most special to you and only you can find the closest replica of it.

The most adorable animals that make very good pets are none other than rabbits. The glint in the eye, the hopping energy and the long ears are a delight to own. It’s easy to wonder how it feels to own a rabbit. Here are a few things one must know before you bring the bundle of joy home!

Cage Care

rabbits cage

The hopping animals need space so get a spacious cage of plastic or wood with wired bars. The cage should be at least 2’ by 4’. Two bucks should not be placed in the same cage. The flooring should not be wired as rabbit feet do not have padding. The material should not be of a bad quality so invest in your rabbit’s health. Make the cage predator proof and check for damage from time to time. Refrain from keeping newspaper clippings inside as they may harm the rabbit and also make sure you clean the cage every other day otherwise it may get stinky. While their droppings help your lawn, try and be patient to teach them how to use the litter box. One might assume that keeping the rabbit in the cage is fine but ideally they do need around 4 hours every day to play around.  Summers tend to get hot so keep ice bottles in their cage to keep them cool and they would happily go rub against it.

Food & Health

Rabbits like the pugs should not be overfed. That does not mean we can allow them to starve. They should be fed every day since their carbohydrates and nutrients get burned off fast due to the active energy. No matter what the weather and condition, they need to be fed and since they also consume a lot of water, they should be taught how to consume from a bowl or bottle. Fill it to the brim and keep your pet from dehydrating. Always check for their coughing and sneezing and also take it to the vet for a yearly check-up. Vegetables are good for their diet and also keep their diarrhea away. They eat a lot if given free access which might result in health issues for the furry animals. Green leafy vegetables, hay are what you should look at for a daily healthy dose.

Are you ready?

rabbit holding

Adopting or owning a rabbit is more than just assuming you will have a personal soft toy like furry pet. One needs to be prepared to take responsibility and decide for their own if they are the rabbit kinds. Don’t make the poor pet suffer because of your inefficiency. They get comfortable around your house and mark their territory slowly. Open spaces scare them more since they fear predators. Rabbits like being around humans and they look forward to the interaction, the absence of which may lead to depression and loneliness for the social animals. They make an amazing pet for amazing people. The person should be willing to observe and listen. Listen a little more and they would give you a different perspective on the world. One should be friendly, patient, willing to spend time on the floor, stay home quite often and absolutely enjoy just watching and learning from the rabbits. You will find a unique pleasure in having rabbits as companions. You should be willing to clean their poop every now and then as they poop even when startled. They do not liked to be held and rather just petted while sitting next to you. They have a natural flair for digging and chewing and as an owner you should not be the one who frets too much. Make your house electric proof and give them the freedom to roam around. These animals are so smart that slowly you will realize that instead of you training them, they have started training you according to their needs. You need to be there to keep an eye out for them especially if you have dogs, cats or kids at home. Kids might handle them in a way that may affect their spine or other bones.

Keep them Happy

happy rabbits

While there are many things for them to live for 7 to 10 years, interesting thing to note is their love for toys. They are most active early mornings and in the evenings which gives a breather time to working people. They prefer toys like cardboard boxes, hard plastic toys, wire cat balls, chew toys, bottle lids, toilet paper roll in hays, all these are a list of items. They also bond well with another rabbit. My rabbit became violent after I kept him away from his brother and the loneliness probably got to him. It is essential to keep them safe from cats especially and after some supervising they can get along. Keep them groomed and remember to cut their toe nails on time to prevent getting scratched. All in all, I would just say that learn to keep your rabbit happy and pamper it. Give them attention and they will never fail you as pets. They love snuggling and will do so happily with you once the bond is formed. Go get them and add charm to your lives.

There’s no one who won’t think about the cute, stout dogs from our very old but not forgotten Vodafone ads. Then there are some of us lucky enough to own the adorable ones. For those who are still confused, yes I am talking about Pugs! The breed who loves attention so much that if there were dogs from Venus; they are it. They want to be smothered by you and love you as much as much as you love them or more. The possessiveness and jealousy is nothing less than your better half and if you have to keep the dogs healthy, you have to go a little out of your way for that.

baby-pugs

While the pugs love to eat and you love to pamper, always draw a line to the quantity of food intake. You would probably do well by just taking the dog for a beautiful drive to the park. The right quantity of food and proper exercise is important to keep it healthy and free from problems. A little bit every day also keeps the heart and the lungs healthy. It’s easy to think you are doing it for yourself and not him. Double perk! So keep it to a level just to be lean, mentally challenged and fit. Keep the jogging and jumping aside till they are at least a year old, to keep them from developing hip and knee related problems. Their small thick bodies are designed in such a way that they can’t tolerate heat and also develop a tan on their stomach apart from the major diseases. Pugs are your indoor animals as they have been bred to be royal companions to the Chinese in the olden days. Pugs are easy to get along with, friendly and family sort of a pet and if you have a kid in the house you will surely get room to breathe as the dog will divide their attention.

Even if it’s for a good laugh, their wrinkles will never disappoint you. You can hide pencils, clips in those and maybe accessorize the cute tail but always keep in mind to clean those folds regularly with soft napkins or baby wipes to keep the infections and bacteria at bay. Your gentle dog should be cared for always. Keeping aside the cupid play, do remember that this breed is less healthy than most of its counter parts due to the small size, excessive wrinkles and flat face. It’s not only the bacteria that you should be scared of but also the worms found in stool, insects that stay in grasses and mosquitoes that are-well about everywhere! Healthy skin is nothing without healthy glowing teeth. So ask your vet how you should do the cleaning and maybe toss in some flavored tooth paste in the process. While caring for a pug is nothing less that caring for a baby, know that pugs will never really ‘’grow up’’ as far as you are around. Smoking and its health hazards. Don’t take it personally if you do but your darling pet has enough breathing problems as it is. So much so that even a little excitement can be a cause of worry and you should probably put a tissue on its nose so that it can breathe through the mouth. Just try and not smoke around the pug to keep it healthy and kicking.

Splashing in water is a fun activity not only for the pug but also a treat to your eyes. Investment in a cute bath tub for your pug will never be a disappointment and while the pugs do shed hair, always keep a track on how much. Bathe it once in a couple of weeks and it should not be a worry. Home cooked food, organic meat, grain free food are considered the best among the lot for cute friendly dogs and no matter what you say, you can’t stay away from it yourself. While he misses you when you are at work, its best known to you what joy the pug hug can give you. So even when you try and stay away, make sure there is a ladder next to your bed for them to climb in with you while you have a set of ear plugs to block the sound of the soft snore. Oh yes, they snore and pretty long for they sleep for about a minimum of 14 hours a day. These fearless breed of pets can add a lot of charm in your life and while they may want to be your guardian angel all the time, don’t forget to keep that leash on. I can only say that don’t think twice before getting the bundle of joy home. Just make sure that they have been bought from a reliable source and have been checked by the veterinarian.
