When you pet a dog, any regular dog fan could easily guess the specie of that dog, as there are just a few common species that almost everyone domesticates. If you want to be unique in the crowd, and leave any dog fan in astonishment as to what specie you are domesticating, here are a few species of dogs, that do make great pets, but have gone out of fashion! And if you are a dog lover, you surely are going to love the company of these special dogs!

01. Sussex Spaniel

1

Although this dog is much friendly and great in all aspects, but it still has lost is fame since the last few decades. It used to be a great option for a pet, but with the overpowering of other species, this specie started becoming a bane and people started opting for other more useful species. This specie possess qualities of an ideal pet as it is an apartment dog, not asking for much exercise and care. The problem with them is they are not much energetic, and prefer sleeping for the whole day! They don’t do much, just sit and watch their surroundings.

02. Weimaraner

2

This specie of pet dog is a total contrast to the Sussex Spaniel. They are hyperactive kinds of dogs, which ask for extra attention all the time. They are friendly with their owners, and forget the line between friendly and overfriendly. This kind of dog sure does need a lot of social assurance due to its ferocious nature. When it is not getting much interaction, it shows its creativity with the dead insects, and offer them as gifts to their owners and loved ones. The acceptance of that gift would mark your love for that animal.

03. bullmastiff

3

Bullmastiffs have yet another sort of issue, which prevents people from domesticating these innocent looking animals. These dogs are very intelligent kinds of dog, having a mind which is not influenced by their fellow beings. Bullmastiff is a short tempered dog, and hence make really good guard dogs. They really need a good training at a younger age of their life, if you want to prevent them from attacking anyone. Inspite of being short tempered, they won’t actually attack and bite an intruder, but instead would just hold the intruder for a duration till which, someone else comes and holds the situation. Another problem with the bullmastiff is that they are very possessive and demand for an overpowering owner. They are not good with other species of dogs, and hence are good if they are your only pet! Bullmastiffs are also prone to drool at times, so keep a mop ready!

04. Saint Bernard

4

What do we want in a dog? That it should be lovable and loyal with least mess, that is it can be trained to go out for emptying its stomach, or simply doesn’t create a mess in the house! But this type of dog cannot be trained. Whatever amount of training goes into this dog, it still is going to drool all day long. Taking care of this drooling habit becomes difficult for the owners to take care of! These dogs are also very much into their own family, that is they remain indoors with their dog family. Hence, they don’t need much exercise or stuff, but still need a small yard for their playing activities.

05. Alaskan malamute

5

The looks of this dog are deceiving. They look cute and cuddly types, but you ought to be warned as they are real cons. They are friendly in nature, but are more of a family dog, so they try spending the most of their quality time with their family. Not only this, they have a good tendency to attack, that is if they get angry. These dogs are also tactical and keep on making strategies to escape from the trap. Still, they make great pets, but people don’t prefer such a dog with mixed feelings. They are basically arctic animals, and hence are covered with a thick layer of fur, which protects them from the cold and heat of the nature. They are not at all recommended for an indoor life, as they are active and need a good day’s walk and a large enough yard to play and enjoy!

The above characteristics of these 5 dogs surely do infer that they are not much famous at the moment. They might have enjoyed the delicacy of fame at some point, but surely have lost them now! Another inference that can be observed is that though people don’t prefer getting many of the above mentioned species, but none of them have such a huge flaw, which would restrict them of being great pets. Every dog, somewhere down in their heart, do possess the ability to enjoy human companionship, and hence have the capability of being great pets. Similarly with these dogs, if properly trained, they would also make great pets and would surely make their owners content in one way or the other! Even if they have some negative points in them, still you need to adjust with it. After all, Nobody’s Perfect, and this sure does apply on the animal species.

People often confuse dolphin as a large fish, but in reality, dolphin belongs to the mammalia family. It gives birth to an offspring instead of laying eggs. Moreover dolphin breathe in oxygen, which they cannot obtain from water. That is the reason, these marine mammals occasionally come out of the water. They have a small peep hole above their body, which is used by them for aerobic respiration to take place. Dolphins are the center of attraction in any aquarium, especially in those where an interactive session with these astonishingly beautiful creatures is available. People get so mesmerized by this creature that they start dreaming of getting one of these as a pet, and a few rich of them, who could afford them start making plans for getting their hands on a dolphin. But unfortunately, there is one more obstacle in the path of domesticating a dolphin, that is getting legal permissions.

Dolphin has been rendered as an internationally protected mammal, and thus for domestication of this mammal, you will have to go through a few legal proceedings, as are completed by public aquarium owners. But believe me, spending this time, effort and money on getting a dolphin is worth it as a dolphin is much more than just a pet! Such an inevitable bond is developed that the dolphin becomes a part of the family.

1. Types

woman-swimming-with-dolphins

There is not just one type of dolphin, but exists hundreds of kinds of them. A few prominent of these include Long Beaked Dolphin, Indo-Pacific Bottlenose Dolphin, Whale Dolphin etc and a lot more of them.

2. Habitat

DuskyDolphin

If you are thinking to pet a dolphin, you need to have ample space to keep this huge mammal, and give it allowance to roam freely in those waters. To do this, you need to have a large pool digged into the Earth, a pool much larger than a swimming pool, in fact larger than a lake. After then, get a dolphin by completing all the legal matters, and them, you are a proud owner of a dolphin! Dolphins usually vary from 4 feet to 90 feet in size, and hence, keep in mind the size of the pool you are going to get built.

3. Diet

dolphins_with_kids-600x4501

Get ready to fetch fresh fish everyday for your dolphin! Dolphins are carnivores, and feed on fish! They consume a whole lot of them everyday, which is one of the reasons that these mammals don’t smell too good, as we already know that we give a smell of what we eat! Dolphins need to consume large amount of fish and squids everyday to support their large body. They can easily get them in the oceans, but getting this available everyday for the pet dolphin would mean a regular visit to the local bet store or fish market!

4. anatomy

dolphin-kristian-sekulic-isp

Dolphins have enhanced their body structure with the passing time. In the present generation, their body design has got developed in such a manner that they have a streamlined body design, complying by the rules of physics for incurring least resistance while travelling at high speeds. Dolphins have very less hair, and possess a unique capability of getting their wounds healed very soon! Even as deep wounds as shark bites don’t make them lose blood or life! They can overcome this loss easily. Another fact about dolphins is that just like cows, they have two compartments in their stomach, one of which is for storage of food and the other is where digestion of food takes place.

5. Pregnancy

dolphin11a

Mating is one of the basic necessity of life. Each specie on this Earth live for this purpose. Now, if you are a proud owner of a dolphin, it makes you prone to fulfill the necessities of your pet. Now, the necessity of mating can be completed in an aquarium or in other such places where other dolphins are available. Just make it legal as there are hundreds of legal issues with a dolphin. Dolphins remain pregnant for a year.

6. Friendly nature

4ff729ff2beb7DSC_5689_large_medium

Dolphins are known for their friendly nature and agility. They remain restless for most of the time. But this friendly nature depends on the first sight. They create a first impression. They are more afraid of us than we are of them, so they try maintaining a distance from us! All we have to do is let it follow us, remain calm, and NEVER follow the dolphin. We want to befriend it, not make it as an enemy!

7. Alternative

dolphin_2867161b

If you cannot afford buying a dolphin, or cannot pay for all these amenities, there is another way. You can contact the local aquarium or a place where dolphins are kept and they perform various tasks to entertain the population. If willing, they might give you permission to go and play with them, or even better, have a swim session with these dolphins. But always remember, never touch their face or other such sensitive areas. It will simply scare them off!

Dolphins are known to sleep with one eye open, as they live in water and have to remain active at all times. So, at a particular point of time, one half of their brain remains active and the other half sleeps! So, if you are ready to get such a pet, go for it, as dolphins really make a very good pet!

You might have came across some pocket sized books and other such stuff, which are miniature versions of large things, and can easily fit in your pockets. Thus they are easy to handle and care for! But have you ever heard about some pocket sized bird? Lovebirds are a living example of them. These miniature parrots fulfill all the benefits and benchmarks set up by a common parrot, and in addition to it, have a small size, thus rendering them to be a more favored pet than the common parrot.

Lovebirds are small clown creatures, who like to play, and have the stamina to play for hours on a stretch. Alongwith being cute, they are extremely notorious as well! They like to play pranks with the guests or their owners by imitating their voice, or just by picking on their shirt buttons, as they simply love doing this! So when you have pet lovebirds, prefer wearing a T-Shirt! It is commonly told to get these lovebirds in a couple, but that is not mandatory, and in fact, not even necessary as long as you would entertain that little creature. These birds create a bond with someone they see everyday, and that too without much difficulty, which eliminates the need of a companion of the same specie. But if you are an office person, and won’t be present in the house for most of your time, then better get a couple of these birds, so that any of them doesn’t get bored while they are alone. A few quick facts of lovebirds are mentioned in the space below.

MaskedLovebird (1)

  • Lovebirds saw their origin from the land of flora and fauna, that is Africa. The scientific name of Lovebird is “Agapornis”. The literal meaning of “Agapornis” can be derived from two languages. The first part, that is “Agapein” means “To Love” in Greek language, and the second part, that is “ornis” means “Bird” in Latin, thus giving the lovebird, its name.
  • There are 9 different species of lovebirds. Cross breeding has been tried in many laboratories of various countries, but the produce that was obtained was in no manner, similar to the parent’s characteristics, or ideal for the purpose of keeping as pets. It just felt as an act of playing with nature, as a positive outcome was not obtained by cross breeding, and also, the off springs could not be used to produce the original specie, thus decreasing its value.

Masked_Lovebird_(Agapornis_personata)_-Auckland_Zoo

  • Lovebirds don’t always remain by their name. Although they do love everyone, but at the same time, easily get angry, and as a consequence, can bite their fellow beings. These birds maintain a life long relationship with their companion, and are extremely good at maintaining inter-specie relationships too!
  • Birds that are trapped from the forests, and then are used for the purpose of domestication, don;t make such good pets when compared to the birds, that have already been bred by someone. The reason behind this is the birds captured from the wild are not habitual of living in captivity! They will take a long time adjusting in the extremely different conditions. In the beginning, they would even face depression for a while, and after that, they would start developing a relationship with you, but by that time, your patience would have given up and you would have started seeing that little creature with a different morph! Moreover, capturing more of these creatures that are living in the natural habitat would just be like disrupting the nature’s flow!

Capture (2)

  • Lovebirds are known to mate for life, which means they would be giving off springs for as long as they live and find a companion!
  • Domesticated lovebirds are usually kept in a cage, though they must not be captured and punished for a crime they didn’t commit! Although keeping them in their cage seems to be necessary, as otherwise, they would simply fly away, so a better alternative would be letting that bird out for some hours each day. If your bird has undergone a proper training procedure, then releasing it in the open won’t be harmful, as at the end of the day, it would return to you, but if it has not yet been trained then you can take him out of its cage in a closed room, in which, proper bird proofing has been done, which might include removing all the electrical equipments and even wires from that room, closing the windows, removing all the things that can make the bird escape etc.

lovebird-wallpaper

  • Lovebirds are very much similar to common parrots, and so is their diet. They are nurtured best, when fed upon a mixed variety of seeds, nuts. Occasionally, they can also be provided with fruits and vegetables cut into small pieces, so that they don’t suffer any problem in swallowing it.
  • Though lovebirds are very peaceful creatures, but their nature alters when they are around some other specie of birds. In that case, they suffer from arrogance problems. They treat themselves as the most superior specie of all, which tends to make them angry ad bring out their hidden anger. These pet birds, when angry, can also bite their owner or anyone present in the house at that point of time.

Domesticating a small animal is not that difficult, but when you think of domesticating the largest land mammal present on Earth, you surely will have to think again. So is the case of domesticating an elephant, which is quite a common thing in this peninsular subcontinent called India. India is a home to millions of species of flora and fauna, a large amount of which are yet undiscovered and uninhabited, but living in India surely gave us a chance to experience the looks and touch of the largest living land mammal. This huge animal has an average lifespan equivalent to that of a human being, and is a really calm animal unless bothered in excess. A few fun facts about an elephant being a domesticated animal are here.

  • Types

indian_elephant

Elephants are broadly classified into two types, that is the Asian elephant and the African elephant, clearly depending upon the region they belong to. African elephants are known to be a a bit larger and heavier than Asian elephants, and also a little wild if they see some sort of harm happening to their family. Asian elephants are more of a peaceful nature, and are ideal for domestication. The African elephant is broadly classified into further two categories namely African Forest Elephant and African Bush Elephant.

  • Size

29

Elephants are the largest living land mammal. They are HUGE, and by huge, I mean really HUGE. An elephant can grow up to 4 metres in height and can attain a weight of 7,000 kilograms, or in other words, 7 metric tonnes. This directly concludes that you need to have some supplies to take proper care of your elephant. Those supplies include ample amount of space for elephants to roam and sleep, and a big enough farm so that they can fulfill their diet.

  • diet

070104-christmas

It is commonly clear by the size of a person or animal, how its diet would be! Thus, it can be said that size and diet have a direct relationship. So in case of elephants, it is quite obvious that they might have a good diet, and by good, I mean, EXTREMELY EXCRUCIATINGLY GOOD. In an animal specie, where even the newly born weighs 91 kilograms on an average, diet needs to be huge. Coming to facts, an adult elephant requires around 200 litres of water, not in a week or something, but in a single day! Coming to what they eat, their favourite feed is vegetation. Though seeing at such a huge animal might seem that it is carnivores, but elephants are fully herbivores, and just rely on vegetation for fulfilling their daily needs. On an average, a single elephant consumes 150 to 200 kg of vegetation everyday.

  • tusks

elephant-tusks

Elephant behaviour and physiology resembles that of humans in numerous manners. One of them is the resemblance in their teeth growth. Just like human babies, elephants also grow toothless, and grow their tusks with the passing time. The common use of these tusks is for the purpose of digging, but nowadays, there is an illegal market of these tusk ivory, which is used for ornamental purposes in people’s house. Though illegal, but it is a bloomed market, which is not at all healthy for the population of these serene animal specie. Also, these animals have to consume vegetation for most of their lifetime which is a reason, elephants sleep only for 3-5 years in a day. This regular chewing causes quick wear and tear of their teeth, so unlike human beings, elephants are equipped with 6-8 sets of teeth, which grow in place of the old worn teeth and replace them.

  • memory

A bull elephant grazes in South Africa's Kruger National Park

Elephants are known to have some sort of Grey matter in their mind. Rendered as one of the most intelligent animals, they don’t forget anything easily. It is said that when something goes into an elephant’s mind, it never goes out. They can put any data in their mind, and make it stay there for a long duration of time.

swimming-elephant-andaman-islands

Elephants make really great pets. Although they need some extra input, but they are worth it. One of the best domesticated animals, it remains a good pet only if they are not hindered of their natural surroundings, and are allowed to remain with their family. Always remember that elephants are extremely possessive for their family. Any misbehaviour with any member of their family means you are going to be attacked by the head elephant. In India, Elephants are also used as a mode of transport in various parts, especially in those areas, where dense bushes and forests are present as elephants can easily make their way from these regions. A strange facts about these super animals is that they can swim. They use their trunk in an upright position, so that it remains out of the surface of water, and hence can be used for breathing purposes. Despite of their large body size, they can swim, and stay in water to avoid heat. They have huge ears, which are made of blood capillaries, and are aimed at regulating the body temperature of the elephant. It is an ironical fact that this largest mammal is afraid of the smallest things like a rat or a fly or any other such ground insects. Pet Elephants are also used in circus for the purpose of entertainment of the audience present.

So, thinking of getting a bird but are confused as to which bird to pick? Or want to pick a couple of them? You might have heard a lot of people referring you to pick up a couple of “Love Birds”, but believe me, they would tend to seek your interest only if you are interested in them. Depending upon your choice and demand, you can seek for any kind of pet bird from the hundreds of thousands of species of birds out there. A few of these bird species, which are most commonly domesticated, and have the tendency to be great pets are told here in the following space.

  • canary

IMG_4430

Remember Tweety from the cartoons? That little cute bird belonged to canary specie. These little, usually yellow coloured birds, will entertain you by their soothing songs. Not that they would recite lyrics or something, but their voice comes out of their throat in the form of a rhythmic pattern, when they tend to do so. These birds don’t ask for much care, and remain in their designated cages for most of the time. So, as a benefit to their singing abilities, and not asking for much care, they do add to the beauty of your house. Moreover, these birds enjoy the glimpses of the world for just 15 years on an average, which is their average lifespan.

  • LOVEBIRDS

parrot_a

Whether you know them or whether they are strangers to you, a couple going, holding their hands, spreading love around the world would surely be referred by you as “Lovebirds”. The question that hovers in my mind is how did they get this name? They actually got this name from Celtic mythology, in which, the God of Love was described as flying with four of these birds, which mark the beginning of the name of this special kind of parrot. Although they are not as good mimics as the Indian Ringneck Parrot, but they do mimic little sounds like doorbell or something of that sort. These birds are usually bought as a couple, abiding by their names, as we don’t have the right to separate them, though differentiating the birds on the basis of their gender is a little difficult, but can be learnt from their behaviour towards various articles present around them. Having an average lifespan of 30 years, these birds “Stay Together Forever” and “Live Happily Ever After”.

  • chicken

Chickens_in_fog

Love to keep what you eat? That is a well known fact that chickens fulfill various purposes, and not just act as a good diet to fill non-vegans’ stomachs. Are you an Indian? If so, I challenge you to go to any village, especially of the Northern India region, specifically Punjab, and if you don’t find a group of chicken there, roaming on the streets, I will do anything you ask me to! Chickens are so common in Indian villages till date that they still act as natural alarms for the people living there. They also allow their owners to be capable of earning enough money for feeding their families. Chicken farming is a much bloomed business nowadays in any part of the world. They don’t ask for much care, and easily adjusts in colonies where humans reside in. They crow every morning when they see the first rays of sun falling over them.

  • the indian ring neck parrot

Rose-ringed_Parakeets_(Male_&_Female)-_During_Foreplay_at_Hodal_I_Picture_0034

Ah! The most common pet bird in India. “Mithu Choori Khaayega?” (meaning “Will Mithu like to wat some crumpled chapattis?”) are the words, in the astounding sounds of which, we grew up. Every second house used to be a proud owner of this Indian parrot and named it as “Mithu”. Televisions were not so common then, so these talkative and notorious birds used to be a source of entertainment for everyone in the street, and the relatives too. Especially the kids felt really special, just by getting to touch this long tailed bird. These birds make really good mimics and can even copy the voices of people. That is why, sometimes guests get confused that whether they are talking to the bird or the owner. They make great pets and have an average span of almost 2 decades.

What leaves me spellbound and mesmerized when I hear about a cockatiel is its looks. These birds are extremely social and possess and extremely friendly nature. They get angry or sad when they are deprived of humans, once they get an habit of staying around them. These birds are also a kind of parrots and hence, are good at mimicry. They are keen to gain knowledge, and try getting acquainted to a new object with the help of their mouth, just like any other bird. The thing that differentiates the behavior of this bird from the other birds is they get so keen and lost into exploring that new thing that they just forget the rest of the world around them. They get back to normal, once they have totally teared apart the object. A fact about these birds is that their feathers reflect their mood. These astonishing birds also don’t ask for much care, but do ask for attention, or otherwise, they would start producing some sounds to seek attention. Otherwise, they have a very soothing voice. These birds possess an average life expectancy of 15-30 years, ranging due to conditions they survive in.

Birds are the third most common pets after dogs and cats. They are the creatures living the dream of people like us. We all dream of having wings and fly high in the sky, but cannot achieve this dream. The closest that we can get to flying is using airplanes for having a flight. The advanced technology does allow us to fly, but still, the freedom of flight that the birds enjoy can not be enjoyed by us so far. So, in a way, birds are really inspiring pets, giving a lesson of flying and going on, despite of whatever problem you are facing at the moment. Birds make really good pets, but they need not be caged. They can be left free, and on giving proper training, they would return to their own house, which will, by then, be the same house in which, you reside in. A few things, that you need to keep in your mind before getting a pet are mentioned here.

  • Cleaning Up

modern-bird-feeders

Birds are messy pets. They create a mess around the place they live in, especially during the time, they are trapped in a cage. If you are going to adopt a pet, keep in mind that there would be a need to devote some of your time towards cleaning the cage everyday. Many kind of disease causing micro organisms keep the tendency to survive in places where birds have created a mess. The excreta of birds also attract such organisms. So, regular cleanliness need to be done, and changing of bottom sheets every week should be done.

  • Safety

duncraft-74405-songbird-one-way-mirror-window-bird-feeder1

When we talk about safety of these small little creatures, we are talking about two types of safety. Firstly, the birds shouldn’t be caged for whole of the day, so when they are set free, either provide them proper training so that they can return to you after having a good flight, or just give them their open space in some closed room. The problem in letting them fly in a room is that these birds can land up on small pieces of mirror or unprotected live wire or other such stuff, through which, they could harm themselves. So, try bird proofing the room, in which, they are going to enjoy a free time. Secondly, if you have other pets like dogs and cats in your house, you need to be extra careful for your pet, as it may get attacked by them. Cats’ favorite meal is a bird, so unless they become friends or acquainted to each other, keep them as far as possible from each other. Remember Sylvester and Tweety, the cartoon series? Some extra preventive measures may include that a few birds can drown easily, so keep a shallow bird bath.

  • Diet

pets-bird-safety-12

It is usually said that birds feed only on seeds, while just giving seeds to them as a dietary supplement maybe dangerous for their system. On an approximation, 50% of the total bird’s diet must be seed, and the rest must include nuts, small pieces of meats and insects. If these supplements are taking your heads over heels to find, then there is another option for their diet. Fruits and vegetables, cut into small digestible portions are also meant to be really healthy for the same. In addition to this, your regular diet, again cut into small portions, can also be a treat for them, which can include chicken, noodles etc. At a whole, they need ample amount of vitamins and minerals to keep them active. Also, never let them thrive of thirst. Refill their water bowls everyday with fresh water. Some birds consume really less amount of water, but they still need this as a supplement.

  • VETerinarian visits

15_1

It is a really common case that the pet bird suddenly dies, which is because the owner of the bird doesn’t get to know when it is sick. Birds do show symptoms of being ill, but we fail to notice them, as we are just not looking for them. These symptoms include change in the colour of their excreta, which from white changes to black, or mustard colour, followed by change in dietary habits. They usually start consuming much more water than they usually consume. They stop chirping and start feeling lethargic. Whenever you observe any of these symptoms, take the bird to your vet and treat them, or they would not see a good fate, as they are not much strong creatures. In addition to this, regular vet visits need to be marked on your calendar. Birds have a good life span, and a few of these pet birds are known to live for decade or more. In nature, they can survive in one way or the other, but when they are under your surveillance, you need to take proper care of them.

  • GROOMING

IMG_4430

When you pet a bird, you have to go through a painful seeming procedure, that is trimming their wings. This process becomes mandatory as the birds can fly into sharp objects or strike the cage, and can harm themselves. So, for preventing this, their wings need to be trimmed, which can be done at home, after getting proper training, or an expert can be referred to perform this procedure. Also, their nails also need to be trimmed on a regular basis, sop that they don’t harm anything or anyone, including themselves.

Domesticating a bird seems to be a good choice, but if you are going to treat it as a slave, and are going to trap it in a cage for whole of the time, then avoid getting a bird pet, and go for something else. Birds are meant to fly, and pet them only if you are ready to give them freedom by providing them enough room for performing their flight exercises, just like you give your pet dog a walk.

Who doesn’t want to go to the past era of the dragon age, where all the mysteries, all the questions that pop up in our mind about the past life would get an answer. A place where the researchers will finally get to know the actual things that happened during that era, and could then stop assuming things. They would finally get to witness all the things, fossils of which are found buried deep down in the Earth nowadays. They would be able to see and live with dinosaurs, but in this course of finding dinosaurs and preserving dinosaur eggs, an animal belonging to its family lost its value.

BeardedDragonWHLA_DD2Ir19

Its true that various animals resemble the early era dinosaurs, and are directly or indirectly related to them, but we are to involved in finding the remains of those old dinosaurs that we don’t pay proper attention to what we have in our hands. One similar animal is the Bearded Dragon. Bearded Dragons are the species of reptile, having an outlook resembling to that of a dragon. They have a small beard on their throat, and hence are named so. This beard change colours depending on their mood. Besides this all, they make great pets. Though they seem a little scary, but it is said not to judge a book by its cover.

  • When buying a dragon, you need to keep in mind that its size is not smaller than 10 inches, as a smaller dragons often are baby dragons, which are much difficult to take care of. They are delicate and need the company of their parents, without which, they easily fall ill. Also, the adult dragon that you will be buying must be active, which can be checked if it raise its head when you approach it. The dragon would stare you with its glittering eyes with his head coming up.
  • A special quality of these dragon pets to our benefit is that they don’t occupy much space. All you need is an enclosed glass box, having a good lighting. Remember that the lighting should be proper, and it should be reptile proof, which can be easily done after consulting your pet store. They can even provide you with the enclosure and everything, that is already built and furnished. If you are doing it by yourself, then you also will have to provide a proper flooring, and heat emitting source.

  • It is a common misconception that the earlier dragons and present dragons too are carnivores. As a matter of fact, they belong to the omnivores class, that is they can live on meat as well as plants. Various kind of leafy vegetables can be given to them as their feed, including mustard greens, turnip greens etc. while spinach and other vitamin rich supplements should be avoided as it is not easily digested by these dragons. Carrots and other such veggies, that are rich in Vitamin A, must just be given to them on their birthdays or so, otherwise these Vitamin A rich food items can make them fall sick, and even deprive them of their present life. Although dragons, these animals are reptiles at the end of the day. So, in terms of diet, they need to be fed with insects or grasshoppers etc, especially the dragons in the growing age.
  • Dragons also need a continuous supply of fresh water. Try changing water after every few hours in their bowl, that they use to drink. Also, keep these dragons hydrated by giving them a bath every now and then. Don’t delay the bath for more than a week, or they would start getting some problems. Moist environment is of utmost importance for these reptiles.

bearded-dragon

  • Dragons shed their skin after a fixed duration, during which, they stop eating or extremely minimise their diet. So, if your dragon is feeding on a lesser amount for a few days, don’t be afraid, as it might be its shedding time, but if the problem f dragon not eating sustains for a couple days or more, take the pet to the vet, and get a full checkup.
  • Cleanliness is also of great importance, not only of pet, but also of the owner. So, always wash your hands after touching or playing with your pet. Keep yourself as well as the pet in a healthy environment, as they are prone to diseases.

bearded_dragon_pic

Some people don’t find these dragons to be adorable creatures, but everyone has a different choice. We can’t force anyone to like someone. But if we conclude whether dragons are ideal or not as a pet, then we would note that dragons don’t ask for much care. They adjust well, don’t overgrow, can feed on a variety of food, and above all, are social. It fulfills the quote that “Every thing that shines is not Gold”, as it looks dangerous to look at, but is a contrary pet. It is a pet in many of the households around the world, but the largest population is in Australia, as this reptile is a native of this Continent Island. So, it can be said that these dragons are ideal for domestication purposes.

When one hears about reptiles as pets, mixed responses can be heard, ranging from “Weird” to “Cool”. Reptiles are the longest living beings on Earth, that still constitute a part of this world. From the time of dinosaurs to the present time of technology, reptiles have been common, but domesticating these pets is not so common. Reptiles constitute a large variety of animals, ranging from a house lizard to a venomous snake. But domesticating a snake would be a deed of the daring people. Reptiles are often ignored after or before domesticating. They have evolved from the past infinite time and have mended their body to adjust in the present situations, in addition to which, they have become safe and ideal for domestication purposes. But are you ready to take this responsibility?

  • The Bright Side of Reptile Pets

Reptiles are great pets to have, granted you are daring enough to get them trained. Reptiles actually aren’t just show piece pets, but are useful in various manners. Reptiles may seem simple or dreadful, but they are equipped with numerous qualities, including recognising their pals through their smell, voice, and their sight, or even can sense the presence of someone through the heat waves being generated by that individual. Reptiles have been evolved from the generations and have adapted through the varying changes in the climate and nature. They are so perfect in their body working that they presently also have the capability to survive in these extreme climatic conditions without suffering much loss. And the most important of all, domesticating a pet teaches you everything about getting a pet, being responsible for it etc. that is you start at the base root level and reach to the most extreme and bizarre level of having a reptile as a pet. You become responsible. And also, if you don’t welcome guests in your house, they usually would never cross the periphery of your house once you pet a snake or something like that.

  • The Dark Side of Reptile Pets

Having a pet reptile has its perks and privileges, alongwith some negative effects. The perks have already been mentioned, and now is the time of the negative points, that are negative for pets as well as their owners. The most important of this is these reptiles are not much expensive. You can get them at really low rates, which might seem to be a profit, but believe me, it is not a benefit at some point, as the care and other such things for a pet cost a lot more than buying this pet. Their day care, their diet and everything like that asks for much more costs. Like buying a turtle would really be inexpensive, but if it gets sick, it would cost you ten fold than the price of the reptile itself for a single visit to the vet. Also, for a reptile pet, especially the venomous ones, you would have to take special precautions, like they get fully acquired by your features that they don’t bite you or anyone from the family. There would be a need to keep them in special customised boxes for your and your friends’ and relatives’ safety.

  • Non Human Behaviour

Sometimes, we on our part show some indecent behaviour against our pets, especially reptiles. We are not just ready to take them to a vet and pay their fees. Moreover, if they don’t fit right into the nature of the house, they are not given time to adjust, but are prone to end up in shelter homes or so. They are not much expensive, so if they get sick at some point, the most commo dialogue heard is, “Lets get a new one instead of treating the older one”, which seems to be really non human on our part. If we have the ability to get our pet fine, it is our responsibility to follow the requisite steps, unless you would be responsible for killing an innocent reptile or animal.

  • So, Are you Ready?

It might seem to be a weird question, but do ask yourself if you are ready to bear such a huge responsibility right on your shoulder out of nothing. Remember to keep it as a responsibility, and not as a burden. The moment domesticating a reptile starts feeling a burden, get some motivation, or you would end up giving the reptile euthanasia, or giving that pet away to someone. So, better ask yourself, get your family agreeing on getting a reptile, and then follow the further steps. The steps don’t end up here. After this, you need to get all the information you would require about your pet, like their vaccinations, what if they bite etc. After doing proper homework, you are ready to get a reptile for yourself. A big problem that is commonly faced by many people who are going to get a pet is they don’t have someone to discuss with, that what should they do? Their family is not much supportive. In that case, they can go consult a specialist or a veterinarian for referring them and filling them up with some positive energy. In the present condition, some pets have adapted in such a manner that they need human company to develop and survive, or the life of their cycle would just end up there. So, reptiles have become a decent thing to pet, granted you are willing to do so!

Losing anything in your life is a hard thing to get over with, especially when it is close to your heart. Similarly losing your pet is like losing a part of your body, which leaves unbearable pain with it, leaving a person in depression. The suffered person feels it as the end of the world, but all this can be prevented if proper measures and steps are taken. Some people, and believe me, its the majority of people out there, feel shy mourning over their pet’s death. They suffer from pain, but feel it as a taboo to have a little ceremony over its burial.

9909-1_n

Everything that lives in this world is mortal. Their life is going to end at some point. Similarly, your pets are mortal, having a limited lifespan, which would probably be much less than your own life, unless you own a tortoise or something, who may live upto 100 years or even more than that. The most commonly owned pet, that is a dog, is the same, with which, people get extremely attached, as this pet also provides equal amount of love and affection to their owner, as their owner provides them with. But sadly, they don’t have a long life. They usually get to and ending of their life after living 10-16 years. The conditions get so bad at later stage of their life that instead of seeing them suffer, euthanasia seems to be a better option. So, a few methodologies to lessen your burden after your pet’s death are told here.

120730_pet_loss_L_inside

Usually when a person loses his/her pet, they go through these common phases of grievance:

  • Guilt

It is the first phase, which comes to a person’s conscious. It usually happens if euthanasia is followed, or a pet is left on its own when a later stage of life is reached by them, and they started suffering. This phase includes blaming yourself for the death of your pet, which is usually not right, as the dog had to die at some point of time.

  • Denial

It is the second phase, in which, the owner rejects to accept the fact that they don’t have the company of their pet anymore. People are not just ready to accept that they won’t be able to pat the backs of of their pet anymore, or would be able to play with them.

  • Bargaining

It is the phase, in which, the question, “What if” starts pondering in the mind of the owner. The person gets totally lost in thinking about the questions like “What if my dog didn’t get involved in that accident?”, or “What if the vet would have saved it?” etc. This phase just makes a man waste his time, worrying about the past.

  • Depression

Then comes the famous phase, the time of depression. Why did that happen? I don’t want to live anymore!, and stuff like this is imagined by the brain. The person needs to keep a good hold of himself, and not let this depression overpower the thinking ability.

  • Acceptance

Finally, after reaching each and every step, you end up in agreeing the fact that your pet is no more with you, and it was NOT your fault. You finally are ready to grieve and have a mourning over the death of your pet.

Pet-burial-Thinkstock-82462966-335lc060613

A few ways, with which, you can always remember your pet are mentioned below.

  1. Some people find the idea of burying their dead pet, and having a memorial ceremony for it, an absurd idea. Being fearful from the society, they prefer not doing it, but if you would believe, it is one of the best methods to relieve yourself from the grieve of death of your pet. Organise a small ceremony, bury your pet, and just read a few good lines for it, after all, it was a part of your family.
  2. Don’t restrain yourself from crying. It has been scientifically proven that cries helps you to get relieved from a burden. Moreover, people feel it weird to cry on the death of an animal, but it is perfectly normal to cry over it. Donot feel shy or something about it. Just do it, it would really help you.
  3. Talking is meant to be good. Talk to your friends, family or relatives about it. If they were not much fond of your pet, then talk to your psychiatrist, counselor, or even your veterinarian. They would surely listen to you, and understand the pain and agony, that you are going through.
  4. Some good ways to remember your pet for the rest of your life is to get an imprint of the claws of your pet, and getting it framed. Collecting hair is really common. A pet is your closest friend, so it really will be missed, but no one can prevent what has to happen.

ClayPaw 005

Losing a pet is one of the hardest things to suffer, but this has to be experienced due to short lifespan of animals. After your pet’s death, take some time, as you would always bear your pet in your mind, but it would take some time for memories to fade. Allow yourself to move on, and don’t get a pet real soon. Take some time and then go for a new pet, which must not be identical to the previous one, or remind you of the same. The death of one of your pets would also put an affect on other pets, but as would be visible, they would move on with time, which would be the same thing that must be followed by you on the loss of your beloved pet.
