We know you loves your pet and can’t live without them even when you travel somewhere else, you want to take them with you but sometimes it can be difficult by taking them with you, but leaving him alone with some body else can make you stress so you can take him with you while travelling by ensuring some important things. Whether you are planning to travel by flight, car, train or bus, you have to make some necessary arrangements for your dog, so that the whole journey would be memorable for your family and your dog. Here are some tips that will make your trip happier.
1. ITEMS TO PACK FOR YOUR PET – Be sure to pack all of the necessary things, when travelling, including food, water, first aid kid, documents like the paper for adoption and proof of vaccinations, chew toys etc.
2. TAKE HIM TO THE VENT – You should take him to vent for checkup if he has any health problems, otherwise if he gets sick during the trip, it may not be possible for you to go to vent at that time and this will ruin all the fun. So you have to take him for a checkup and makes sure if he is healthy or not. If your dog is suffering from hyprothyroidism disease then take neccessary medicines for him before leaving.
3. IDENTIFICATION – If your dog gets lost during the trip, you can get him easily by making sure he has collar and sturdy leash which must have identification tags like dog’s name and your name and your contact number so that if he gets away from you then the strangers can identify him by collar and contact you.
4. TRAVELLING BY CAR – It is one of the relaxing way of travelling as you can stop anywhere if you feel tired. You can keep your dog at the back seat to ensure safety. Make sure to feed him lighter food before 3-4 hours of travelling to avoid car sickness. Your dog can suffer from dehydrated if he continously suffers from heat so make sure to drink him plenty of water ti avoid dehydration. Also take a break on 1-2 hours for snacks or potty break. Feed him snacks which are lighter but high in protein.
Even with the window open, the car can be very warm. To avoid this case, you can turn AC on. You should make sure to keep your dog’s head inside, it can cause accident or can be sick by inhaling cold air.
5. TRAVEL BY FLIGHT – Different airlines have different rules which you have to follow. All airlines needs proof of vaccinations so you don’t forget it before arriving airport. Remember if you want to bring your dog along with you in flight, then he must be 8 weeks old.
Keeping dog in crates is important when you are going to airport. The crates should be large enough in which your dog can sit or stand comfortably, but before keeping him into the crate, make him do exercise as he will soon tired and sleep in the crate.
The check – in progress can take much time so you have to go airport much before. Some dogs are prone to breathing difficulties so its better to leave him alone than in cargo where he can fall sick.
6. TRAVEL BY TRAIN – Travelling by train with your dog may be cheaper than by flight but its much more complicated. Railways allows the dogs in first class coaches of the train and if other passengers complained about the dogs then they can be send out in the break van along with othet luggages where they will feel uncomfortable and also afraid. If there is one more dog of another owner in the same coach, then the railways won’t allow them to keep their dogs in the same coach as they can fight which will cause disturbance to other passengers. If you are planning to travel by train then you have to make arrangements for the dog yourself like food, chains, collars, water etc.
7. LODGING – You can book hotel earlier and make sure if the hotels allows dogs or not, you can search various hotels on the internet and book. The hotels which allows pet can provide various things which your dog can like like parks and many more pet friendly activity. Also keep your dog quiet from howling or barking as it can disturb other people. You can distract his mind by giving him chew toys, you can also take him outside for playing. Most importantly, don’t leave your dog alone as he can destroy hotel’s property.
8. PREPARATION – Emergencies can happen any time but advance preparation can make emergencies less stressful. First you have to make a list of veterniary hospitals in the area where you want to travel before the trip. So that if your dog shows any kind of sickness so be prepared before going for the trip.
