If asked upon, how would you describe yourself? A selfish person or a selfless person? Most of the people would term themselves as selfless, regardless of what they actually think of themselves, but is it really bad to consider yourself as selfish? It is said that you can’t survive in the present circumstances of the society without being selfish! Not extremely selfish, but you need to be a little selfish. But why am I suddenly talking about being selfish or selfless on a pet attack forum? Well, in terms of pets, Cats are usually termed to be extremely selfish, whereas dogs are considered to be selfless. So now, what do you say? Are you a Cat person or a Dog person? Lets find out by knowing a few facts related to these furry animals.
Dogs are the only living beings that love you more than they love themselves.
This quote proves in a simple manner that dogs are selfless. If we talk about dog’s behaviour, they crave for love from their owner. The word “owner” may offend a few people as they treat their pets as a part of their family, so I would like to tell them that I don’t mean to offend them in any manner. Just like any other human being living on this Earth, dogs strive for love, whether from their owner, or by any other person that they see. They seem to be angry at first sight, but a small whistle and confidence in your eyes can make them relax. It is the point when they start waving their tail, which indicates that they are in a mood of friendship.
Waving the tail and other such gestures represent the mood of dogs. Dogs are extremely loyal to their owners. They form such an attachment with fellow dogs or their owners that separation seems to be a much difficult task for them. So difficult that when they lose their owner, tears can be seen rolling down their eyes. They seem to have gone in depression. They lose their appetite and become weak. These qualities renderĀ dogs as being “Selfless”. Dogs even have a great leadership quality. There is always one dog in a group, that leads the group. This trait of a dog resembles that of human beings. Always wishing to be a leader, dogs also tend to attack anyone unknown, who trespasses on their territory. That is why, dogs are kept as guards of homes, which lead to hanging of large boards in front of the houses with a message engraved depicting to be aware of the dog/dogs. In simple words, it can be said that dogs are calm but anger is just a moment away from that calmness.
Dogs look up on us, Cats look down on us.
It is a famous proverb making people aware that cats are a little selfish. The news of cats being selfish is widespread to each corner of this world, but still it is a myth, at least for me. Yes, cats are a little selfish at the beginning of a new relation, and who isn’t? As the time passes, cats develop a special attachment with their owners or friends, just like any other living thing. If cats are living with humans, right from when they are kittens, they do develop a trust for humans.
Cats rely on their gestures. They corner themselves, or start rubbing themselves with their mouth when they are looking for companionship. Cats purring is the thing that most of the people around the globe find to be “cute”. After all, it is the main gesture that cats do, when they want to be loved by someone, but cats also purr when they are hurt. Just like dogs, cats also show most of their expressions and moods with the help of their tails. But cats lack many of the abilities possessed by dogs. Cats don’t sit up and cry for the loss of their loved ones. They see the world differently and prefer to move on rather than repenting upon the past. They are not so good leaders but are good companions at the same time. Having a small body, they are very flexible and can even pass through small openings.
As a conclusion, only one thing can be said that judging a dog to be selfless and cat to be selfish is not at all correct or acceptable. Both are selfish as well as selfless. The circumstances make them behave in appropriate manner. Both cats and dogs, although are said to be arch enemies, but have large number of similarities, the biggest of which is beginning a friendship with them. In the beginning, cats are afraid whereas dogs are furious towards an unknown personality, but that fear or anger lasts as long as the person takes his/her hand towards the head of the animal and they are shown some compassion.
I have a quote that appropriately defines the relation between cats and dogs and human beings.
Women and Cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.
