Here comes Roxanne the second worst dog again with his behavioural problems. Roxanne who is four years old cross bred (doberman + stray dog) dog happens to be my family member. Just when you are positive that Dobermans are highly trainable he would be here to prove you wrong. When I tried to train him he never did what I told him to. He sits when he is told but never runs when told to. Normally when you throw a ball dogs fetch it. But not Roxanne, he either stands there and waits for me to fetch it for him or fetches it right and runs away and if I try to get the ball from him he would show his teeth which are not a very good thing to look at or he tries to bite me. Still he comes with the ball in his mouth and a pleading look in his eyes to throw it.
For some time now he has invented one new trick to trouble us. When food is given in his bowl he drops it on the floor with his paw and has it from the floor. No matter how much we tell him or scold him not to do that, he will just show us his teeth and do whatever he wants to. I guess food gets tastier when consumed with the dust of the floor (I have got to try that too). He sometimes drinks water from the toilet to change his taste (no matter how much I love him, I cannot do that).
how he fitted in
When Roxanne was some eight months old he came into my house sitting on my father’s lap. He was rescued from a family who beat him almost to death and left him on the street to die. His hind legs were broken, coat was dirty but those beady eyes were more than enough to make all of us love him on the moment we saw him. He was too scared of people holding anything shiny in their hands when we took him to the hospital. I think that was probably because he had a bad wound made of something sharp on one of his legs, the mark still remains but in no time my walking happiness healed and came home but I guess those scars remained in his mind. Still he is not so friendly with people and shows unnecessary aggression towards them.
All dogs have a power of winning hearts and I was lucky enough to experience it. My mother hated dogs and when Roxanne came she didn’t let him stay within the households. But he was too scared to stay away and we had to keep him inside. Mother was worried about us and the cleanliness of the house but gradually he won her heart with that mischievous look in his eyes and those back rolls. Mother disliked him but fed him well. One day he refused to have food from his bowl and my mother had to feed him with her hand. He sat there just like a baby with those wet beady eyes. He never stopped trying to get mother’s attention and did everything to make her smile. He rolled and rolled sticking his tongue out, he did all the goofy things he could do. Now according to mother, he is the best child she has.
Even when I am saying he is the worst dog in the world, I know I love everything he does. No human absolutely no one of my family can stay gloomy when he is around. He does everything to keep his family happy and when needed barks at us to scold us. He is our walking happiness supplier. He made our lives better. He is my goofy dog and I am his proud goofier owner.
