There are million of dogs who often end up in the shelters and it is really hard to understand that how can someone surrender his companion which is really sad. Usually, when a dog end up in the shelters, it is not ALWAYS their fault. But the people who come to the adoption shelter generally don’t even consider an abandoned dog to adopt as they thinks the reason of these dogs being there in the shelters, are because of behavioral issues. You need to understand that it is NOT ALWAYS the problem of behavioral issue , I will tell you the reasons why dogs are abandoned from their owners and end up in the shelter.
1. LACK OF TRAINING :-
Many people adopts a dog but they do not realize how much training they requires but you should know that dogs don’t come trained. They need sedulous leaders who are willing to spend time with dogs by teaching commands. People who brings a puppy in home, often forget that they do not come as housebroken and they must be taught to go outside for bathroom. But people fails to take this into his consideration which could cause behavioral problems in dog later. There are many dogs in the shelters who have training, obedience and socialization issues, all of these could be prevented by proper – training.
2. LIFESTYLE CHANGES :-
People getting a divorce, loosing a job, encountering any health issues or having a baby, are the most common reasons that dog ends up in the shelter. They could be too stressed for taking care of dogs if they are loosing a job or getting a divorce or they may not able to pay attention to dogs if they are having a baby or if they themselves are unhealthy.
3. MOVING :-
Sometimes people move into other house or city and cannot be able to take his dog with him. Maybe the home in which he is moving are not allowed to relocate dog with him. He may moving in a house with a roommate who is allergic to dogs or simple does not want any dog in his house.
4. COST OF DOG OWNERSHIP :-
When you first buy a dog then many people have no idea about how much much money will be involved in the ownership of a dog and they often underestimate it. But you have to understand that dogs have also special needs or health issues. Vet bills, foods, toys and grooming can be quite expensive.
5. DO NOT HAVE ENOUGH TIME FOR DOGS :-
No doubt that how much pur lives are busy and when we buy a dog, it will require a lot of time in order to taking care of him properly. This is the one of the main reasons of dogs ending up in the shelters. After buying a dog, they often prioritize other things and neglects the need of dog. Children often pushed their parents to buy them a dog by promising to taking care of it but soon they become interested in other things by forgetting their promise by leaving the responsibility of the dog.
6. ALLERGIES WITHIN FAMILY HOUSEHOLD :- If someone else in the family develops an allergy to the dog then the dog may wind up in the shelter home.
PREVENTION
The best way to prevent this problem is to decide whether you REALLY want a dog or not. Make sure if you can afford a dog, spending enough time with your dog and meet the mental and physical needs before agreeing to get a dog. Keep the above factors in mind if these problems can occur to you, for example if anyone in your household is allergic to dogs or if can take the responsibility of dog by properly taking care of it. You must keep in mind all these points before adopting a one, otherwise your dog will, too, be in trouble by ending up in the shelter. If you already have a dog and experiencing a life – style change then it will be best if you work through it without leaving him in the shelter. Even if you are often busy in your work then you can hire a day walker or you can also put him in a dog – care so that he will get enough exercise and attention, if you get any free time then you can spend it by playing with your dog so that you can build a strong bond between him.
By doing your job, you will not only get a true companion but you will also help to ensure that fewer dogs end up abandoned, confused and facing destruction in that over – crowded animal shelters which is actually hell for them. If you are going to buy a dog then try to buy an abandoned dog as many people do not consider to buy it and they lives their whole life in that hell.
