Many of us are pet lovers and might be having a hard time deciding which pet to bring home. Many pets prove to be an asset to your household, while others are better avoided. Here’s a list of pets that are rarely kept, and even if they are, the circumstances are uncommon (or the owners).
1. Primates :
Monkeys,Chimpanzees, Lemurs and Baboons adorn this category of pets. Despite the fact that they seem to be adorable and child-like, there are various reasons why their behaviour might not be the best for you. They are often stubborn enough to scream and throw tantrums when their needs are not met. In addition to this, they are known to lack moral conscience and might become violent without a warning, biting their owners. Also, they can carry viruses such as Hepatitis-A or HIV-1, the virus that causes AIDS.
2. Bears :
Inspite of knowing that bears can grow to weigh upto 1500 pounds, humans are often bent on kepping them as pets, adorable and cuddly as they think they are. Bear cubs are especially known to be kept as pets, as owners find them teddy-bear-like.But even the cubs grow way too fast and can tower over their owners, standing on their hind legs. They can knock you down with one swift move of their paw and can kill or crush you, very easily. Cute yet untrustworthy, those are bears for you.
3. Bats :
The extremely cute and intriguing creatures, nocturnal and carriers of dangerous diseases like Rabies and SARS, those re bats for you. Bats are deadly creatures, they live for over 30 years, hibernate in cooler climates and eat insects, fruit or blood at night. They can transmit a zoonotic disease if touched, and there’s absolutely no reason for them to be in your home, or for you to wish the same.
4.Wolves and Coyotes :
The reason why dogs were kept as pets was that their ancestors weren’t meant for the same. Wolves and Coyotes are extremely dangerous creatures. They can attack whenever they sense danger, sense an unhealthy animal in a herd without any symptoms shown. They hunt for hunger, play when they wish to and sleep for the rest of the day. Although Wolfdogs have been popular pets recently, they too should be avoided as far as possible.
5.Crocodiles and Alligators :
If you think that these reptiles are cute and harmless and well enough to be in your home, you need to think again. The American Alligator can grow upto 14 feet and can kill prey as large as cattle. These reptiles can knock you down with one whip of their tail and can kill you very easily. Their bite force can be upto 2000 pounds and their tail has the power to break your legs or leave you amputated. Their bites can also transmit various diseases. Reasons are enough to avoid them as pets.
6. Foxes :
Foxes are an addition to the list of untrustworthy animals that are better avoided when it comes to domestication. Arctic or Red foxes are dangerous, especially around children, with a musky odour worse than that of a Ferret. Their teeth, just like that of a canine can prove to be harmful once they resort to wild behaviour.
7.Scorpions :
Scorpions are extremely dangerous to pet and can prove to deadly when they wish. Their sting has the power to kill a human and you can not read their minds. What is the use to have a scorpion as a pet unless you want to chase a world record for putting them into your mouth while they are alive? None.
8.Turtles :
How cute and adorable do turtles seem when you see them ? How much you want to take them home and play with them. But did you know they carry Salmonella and it isn’t a good idea to have them close ? Especially the little ones, not because they carry more Salmonella but because they are the ones kids seem boundlessly attracted to. If your kid puts his fingers in his mouth after touching a turtle, you’re in big trouble.
9.Elephants :
No wonder that elephants seem calm and harmless and are known to have a vegetarian lifestyle, they are large creatures and should be avoided as pets. Only professional should be allowed to deal with them ,since they have a mind of their own and can kill anyone in close range, if they wish to. Many accidents have been reported around elephants, including death of humans.
10.Venomous Snakes :
Venomous snakes, extremely dangerous to be around, should only be allowed with professionals. One bite of even the least deadly snake is enough to send you to the hospital, crying with pain. Many accidents have been reported around snakes, mostly because they’re available legally or illegally and people choose to deal with them without any knowledge or experience.
Therefore, no matter how much you love pets, it is important , rather essential to think about the safety of you and your family before bringing home an animal, in order to make sure that the creature brings you love and happiness, rather than injury or death.
