Planning to get a dog? Before you adopt a dog, there are many things that you’ll need to consider. No doubt that, dogs are man’s best friend but it’ll be better if you choose one wisely. Here are some guidelines which will help you to find the right dog for you :-

You will first want to discuss about this decision to the people that you live with. If you have a family member or roommate who is allergic to dogs or simply does not want one then you need to solve this problem.

Decide what size of dog you wants, If your house has not much space then you won’t want to get a very large dog. However if you live in a house of larger space then you can consider to buy a larger dog. Appearance of the dog will play a part in the decision of yours, about what dog you want, for instance, some people thinks pug to be cute whereas some people finds them very ugly. Choose a dog which you find endearing as it will help you to create better bond with your companion. Maintenance should also be considered when you are choosing a dog,long haired breeds may looks beautiful but they required brushing frequently.
3. CONSIDER RESCUE DOGS :-
Now after doing research about dogs, you’ll need to think whether you want to get a dog from breeder or want to rescue a dog. If you want to get a dog from breeder then you will have a better sense of the dog’s temperament will be like because they often take after their parents, you’ll also have a better knowledge of the dog’s medical history and also the medical history of the dog’s parents which will allow you to forebode other major health problems. However all of these can only happen if the breeder is eminent, bad breeders will maltreat the dogs, therefore, you will end up with a unhealthy and unpleasant dog. If you want to adopt a dog from shelter then you are helping your community by the taking the responsibility for the animal. Many shelters kill the animals which lives there for too long, so you are saving the animal’s life by adopting one. There are many wonderful dogs in shelters so you should not feel that you are getting a lesser – quality pet by adopting a dog from the shelter.
4. THINK ABOUT THE AMOUNT OF TIME YOU HAVE :-
Having a dog takes a lot of responsibility. You will have to take him out for walk, training him is a lot of work. so if you do not have much time to spend with your dog then i suggest you not to buy a pet.
5. CONSIDER YOUR LIFESTYLE :-
You’ll also need to think about your life and whether a dog fits in your life or not, if yes then how? A large dog will be require to walk in order to be mentally alert and healthy,especially if you don’t have much space in your house to run in. Most of the dogs are very sociable and needs a lot of care and attention, so if you often travel for work or any other reasons, and spend a very little time at home the you will probably not have necessary time to devote a pet.
6. CHOOSE AN APPROPRIATE AGE :-
This is the final factor which you should consider before looking for a dog, if you want to adopt a puppy then, it will require a lot of time of yours, in order to train him. However they can grow together with your children and form long lasting friendships and memories. You won’t need to train an adult dog to use the bathroom which is one of the advantage of buying an adult dog. Also, elderly dog makes wonderful companions for elder people and they are more quiet.
7.. MEET THE DOG :-
After you have finally decided to get a dog and consider all of the things that are listed above, you’ll want to meet the dog which you’re considering to adopt. You can check the personality of dog by giving it physical affection, playing with it and talking with it. Initially, they might feel shy but this doesn’t mean he is not affectionate.Spend as much time as possible with that dog in order to increase the understanding of the behavior of dog. If it doesn’t feel right then do not adopt that dog. You can ask about the dog’s behavior and personality from the shelter attendants or breeder. IF you are buying a dog from the breeder then ask him to see the dog’s parents, as it will give you an idea about how will your dog look like after growing up.
