Pets are like the second closest thing to people. Well, the term second because, the first thing differ from person to person, but the second remains quite the same. So obviously they are very important part of their owner’s life. It is like being a part of the family, or even the bestest friend and sometimes the only listener you have! Thus it becomes very important for the owner to choose its pet wisely and correctly. But don’t you think there is other side of the story too. Like why just be self-centered and think about ourselves only. Having a pet involves two parties – one is you and the other is your pet. Don’t you think a pet also needs certain things? Whether he is happy with you? Or is he comfortable in the current living atmosphere? So such questions should arise in your mind.
These are queries related to pets that are having a stable home, a place to sleep, and a family to love. But what about those who are all alone? Who don’t have a home, or place to stay at least dry, and even any food to eat? Well, the simple answer to the question is, they are Homeless. They are animals without a homey backbone, living as the day comes. And believe me, Homeless is even worse than an abusive bad word. It’s a freaking reality! You can’t really escape it.
These stray animals are basically urban free ranging animals. They maybe dogs, cats, etc. They are all on their own. You will a variety in these stray animals. Some are known breeds, some are mixed breeds and some are unknown. These animals can be either left by their owner as a means of freedom or can be like this from birth. They wander around the city for fulfilling their basic needs of life, their survival. Sometimes they get ample of food near bins or outside a house, and sometimes they sleep empty stomachs. Sometimes they have water to drink, not necessarily clean. They have to struggle each day to just live. Forget the other luxuries that our own pets enjoy. And this race for food and shelter eventually makes them wild and nasty. And thus, they end up getting picked up by municipality people. But I don’t think we need to judge them on that. It’s justified.
Do you think this is fair? Is this how you want living creatures to live? Well, if you are a true animal lover, there is no chance you can live with this reality. However getting agitated is not the solution to the problem. You need to get up and act. Choose brand over need. Give home to someone who desperately needs it. That’s how you can really become a true pet/animal lover.
If you are worried about how these things are done, then let me tell you it’s no big deal. The adoption process is very simple. And this is how it goes –
One of the representatives of the animal welfare will visit your house to verify your residential details and fill the forms. You will be assisted by their IDA staff.
Unlike, known and famous breed, where you need to pay lump sum amount to buy a pet, in this adoption you just need to give your support and care. Money does not play an important role. You should heart the animal you are adopting.
Once you have adopted the pet, you don’t need to worry. The IDA staff will just be a phone call away if you need anything at all. Right from calling the vet or giving any advice. You need not panic at all.
After the adoption procedure is complete, there is regular check up on the pet. They just want to make sure the pet is in good hands. You are even asked to send a picture of the pet after a month. If that is not possible for some reason, the staff often drops at your home for a quick visit/survey.
You even need to keep a record of the medical history and details of your vet visits if any, after the adoption.
If you think by any chance you are not up for the job after the pet is adopted, you are allowed to return the pet back, which should be avoided as much as possible. You are not charged any fine or penalties of any sort. But make sure you don’t just abandon the pet.
If your pet falls ill immediately after the adoption procedure, do not worry. The IDA will be there for your rescue. They will take the responsibility of the treatment along with you.
So these were some important pointers to remember when you are about to make some orphan an animal, an animal a pet, and a pet a companion. It may a tuff decision to make. As no one prefers street food over five stars. But always remember, a street pani puri is something you can never get in a five star hotel!
